The forthcoming Trinity deployment consists of many parts, primarily a re-write of the graphics engine. However, that is by no means the entirety of the new expansion. What else is in it?
As the subject states, changes to the User Interface and EVE Voice are among some of the updates intended for deployment. Customizable chat channels and permissions, enhancements to fleet chat, and (OMG!) moveable UI elements!
So, what are you waiting for? Oh yeah, the link! User interface and EVE Voice changes - Fun stuff inside!

Excellent Job devs! Finally we can move things around in the UI as to make things less clunky. I do have a question though: will there be a way to figure out what gang bonuses you are receiving from the fleet in addition to the fact that you are receiving bonuses?

It seems there is still no real reason to use Eve Voice over ts or vent though.

Doesn't matter how pretty you make it ingame. If your client isn't logged in you have no voice comms. Whether it be from a crash or lagging out in the middle of a fleet fight, or just simply bull****tin with people during DT or when the server crashes.
Until you get the option to run it without the client AND when the eve servers are down or hosed it'll never replace TS no matter how nice you make it.

So the targets still clutter the top of the screen? And avatars are still drawn in the chat channel member list?
That's some high quality fail right there. Thanks for the watch list though.
Edit: The ship control panel is still stuck in the bottom center as well. Can we at least have an option to align it to the left?

Edited by: Seriya on 30/10/2007 17:56:43 Nice start, and I like what you've done so far.
However, I REALLY still want to see more work on the general UI. I want to be able to turn on some kind of notification panel, something to light up to let me know right away when I'm warp-scrambled, when I'm being damped. The ECM notification would also be better incorporated into this than having that odd timer-bar counting down at the bottom of the screen. I want to know what's actually happening to my ship at any given time.
So: Fleet UI - nice work, but I'd like you to look at further and more general UI improvements soon please. :)

Looks great, nice that you can move and separate the windows. But the locked targets is bad, needs to auto move the targets out from under the overview. I assume this will likely be fixed tho.
All i care about tho, is can i set the overview so i cannot select the things behind it. Nothing worse than trying to target someone attacking you or your friends, just to click on the planet or star or station icon behind the overview, than you have to move your screen point of view jut to be able to select someone in the overview. Can we please be able to set the overview so you cant click through it, like the chat windows are??

also with the individual windows, you cant resize your entire overview with one drag anymore.
imho CCP needs to allow user made UI mods.

Alot of these changes look excellent; I'm looking forward to having some more flexability in moving windows about.
Two points were already brought up in this thread though that I think I'll reiterate on, as I think they would be a useful addition:
- A warp scramble indicator, preferably one that says who is scrambling you. The pop-up message doesn't stay there for long, and with NPCs it's non-existant. Sometimes the graphic is hard to make out, so zooming in doesn't always show who's scrambling you. This would be a huge help, in my opinion.
- Similar to the warp scramble warning light, an ECM/Damp light would be helpful as well. This would flash even when their ECM has not landed for that around. This especially helps prioritize targets in missions.
Other than that, I think the rest of the UI is great with the added changes.
EVE Voice is something I feel holds alot of promise, but as people said, being able to stay on TS when EVE crashes is a big advantage over EVE Voice. Players can quickly notify their commanders of a crash (and guard their disconnected ship appropriately) or participate in meetings when not everyone has access to the client. While EVE Voice is certainly better from an organizational standpoint, (How many times have you heard someone shout "Clear Channel!" in TS?), TS's insulation from the EVE client provides many advantages as well, and juggling two voice systems is usually too much for most people. I realize making these changes to EVE Voice will be challenging and no doubt take a considerable amount of time, I think it will need to be addressed if it is to unseat TS/Vent as the de-facto voice comm app.

This sound pretty nice, but I have one suggestion: Allow fleet members to move themselves into empty positions. It would make fleet organisation so much easier and faster... ------------------------------------------

I congratulate you on the new interface for the fleet system, and it was most certainly needed. However, it disappoints me that it took a program like EVE Voice (which I have yet to meet anyone using it, due to it costs more money they current third party programs) to redo it. The original interface was sufficient perhaps when the game started, but taking so many years before actually fixing it is rather disconcerting, and even more so because of a program like EVE Voice to come to this realization, when people on the forums have been complaining for years that the interface needed improvements.
Granted, from what limited knowledge I have of the code (meaning I have no idea how it's written ), I can imagine that many of the interface changes could not have occurred without the new engine.
However, as the saying goes, "better late then never". Personally, I most look forward to seeing the new drones control interface, which I hope will be in another dev blog soon.
As to CCP Kieron, thank you for the blog. Myself, as well as many/all others in eve look forward to the changes in rev3.

Can the FC see whether individual squads are getting bonuses? I know it's a potential logical nightmare, so let me propose this mechanic: If the FC were to join that squad as a member, and the max member count in that squad changed by one for purposes of the test, would the FC be getting bonuses? In very large gangs, much of my job as FC ends up being shuffling around squad and wing leaders to get bonuses, and every so often, a squad commander will dock up three systems back and not tell anyone. Then I'm just left wondering why my 'ceptors can't tackle anything and my EW pilots keep missing their cycles.
Alternately, is there any way hovering over a character name can tell us their Leadership skills (and, bonus! any gang modules fitted)? When I'm looking for a squad commander in squad 14, and whoever has boss has already filled the hole in that squad with a member, I'd rather promote an existing member to commander than have to move a member out and move a commander in from another part of the fleet.
Lastly, in minimized mode, please make it easy to know what wing and squad you are in (perhaps, again, with a hover-over infobox?). One of the most-frustrating parts of the way the gang interface works "in the field" is that when I tell my guys, "If you're in Wing 2, and you're not a capital, you're in the wrong wing, please x up to be moved," "Wing 1, Squad 5, warp to the out gate and hold," or, "I need someone with Leadership V in Squad 12," half of my fleet has no idea--and CBA clicking twenty times to minimize sufficient portions of the fleet breakdown, which bizarrely default to expanded instead of collapsed, in order to find out--what squad they're in.

Soo, uhh, question. All this new pretty UI stuff is great, but is anything being done about the performance issues that the UI causes? For instance, when jumping with a fleet, the client will lock up for 10-15 seconds while the UI tries to catch up with all the people entering local. This is not cool.
I would rather have a minimal UI that doesn't lock me up, than a pretty UI that does (and no, it's not my system, my system is plenty fast enough and I am not the only one with this issue).

Nice one Zulu! These UI changes are a great start, but I'd like to offer some advice:
1. Create an overview column for ECM/Warp Scrambling/Stasis Webbing effects. This way you can sort overview targets by those scrambling/webbing/dampening you, which is a great functionality for both PvP and PvE.
2. I'm sure you know this already, but please don't allow selected targets to exist behind other overview windows
3. I really like the EVE Voice changes, but you need to create an applet that exists outside of the client itself. Even just a C# application that displays the exact same data as the Fleet UI. But this applet needs to handle EVE Voice logic separate from the EVE client. Do this and you will win much support.

I like seeing the movable overview return. Was suprised when it was locked when Exodus(shiva) was released way way back.
Will the overview still lag (get confused) with different standings/agro items in overview? How many times have we refreshed the overview to fix it.
If you made the ship ui movable you would also allow dual-screen support. I dont know if anyone has asked for that feature
Otherwise nice work, No mention of Drone agression settings or drone focus fire? They are really nice drone ui additions if they work.
