Take place overview icon it's all? in UI. How abot? - Hotkeys - Easy Tag - Small icon idicate status target (jam, disrupt, web, damp, painter).
Thx for reading. (sorry for my bad English)
Eh? Theres a dev post just above here that allows a FC to 'open' all squads and everyone can move themselves. " inty pilots get into squad 1, gogogogogo "

Hate to throw negativity into this post where you seems to be getting loads of luvin but...
Have you tried the new overview on resolutions below 1600x1200
I'm using 1280x1024 the res of my lcd so screen space is a little more limited.
Frustrations I found with the new overview are.
1) The window covers the command buttons. so I cant have it extnded all the way down the right hand side of my screen anymore otherwise I cant activate half my controls.
2) I cant extend the overview sidways anymore to reveal extra columns when needed. I have to first find the unpin button, unpin the window , extend it , then repin it. Rather cumbersome compared to the current overview.
3) The buttons on the selected item panel are too small.
On the subject of the disappearing ( pin / close / minimise ) buttons on the windows in general. The question has to be WHY ?
For a minor asthetic improvement you have impacted the functionality of the UI.
I dont ever remember seeing this type of functionality in any other UI. It is irritating tbh.
I know the control is there but I cant see it. so it affects my eye hand co-ordination. It now takes twice the time to achive the simple task of minimising an unwanted window.
Its kinda like looking for a switch in the dark. Whereas before the lights where always on.

If you look at your screenshot then you will notice a targeting icon in the top-right corner. Move it and then you move the the locked targets. We'll look into why they are on the far right (didn't happen on my computer...), the default location should be as before, slightly to the left of the overview.
Originally by: Menellaix The ship control panel is still stuck in the bottom center as well.
Future thing we are considering, as a part of dual-monitor support.
I may be beign dumb, but i cant see how to move them or a targeting ion in the top right that I can move unless I move the overview itself

So basically, you are redesigning the overview UI so you can better accommodate the Eve Chat Client.
This is futile, because nobody will use the built-in Eve Voice Chat anyway. Here is why:
1. In case of client lag (i.e. essentially during any fleet PvP these days) you cannot control the voice chat. This is not a problem when using TS. 2. You have to be logged in to Eve in order to use voice chat. Forget about coordinating immediate post-DT logons, situations where the node crashes, server instability etc (yes I know, this is completely unheard of in Eve ). This is not a problem when using TS. 3. You have to be in fleet for this to work. When you CTD, or drop gang to improve performance in laggy situations, you lose voice chat. This is not a problem when using TS.
While issue (3) is a result of the current implementation, (1) and (2) are inherent to integrating Voice Chat with the eve client, and are thus basically fundamental, unsolvable issues (from CCP's perspective).
I would therefore suggest not wasting too much time on it. Instead, how about focusing on solving lag or hiring some actual UI design guy to redo the client UI?

So the targets still clutter the top of the screen? And avatars are still drawn in the chat channel member list?
No, it is a work in progress and not the final result of the revamp. Obviously. And it is a great preview so far, I'm really looking forward. It would be almost perfect if EVE would not stall for split seconds, for example when opening wrecks or when wrecks close if you emtpy it, in the market window or when opening other windows, usually the ones with loading (people & places) and rendering times (lots of control elements).
Could we get the fleet member (squad member) list and the flat list sorted alphabetically, please? It is sure a help when searching for people :)

Improvements to the UI are far more important to my enjoyment than random features like Heat (not to say Heat is bad, but I'd take some basic UI improvements I use constantly over an extra feature).
How about font selection? Allow us to use some other fonts, like Verdana. Something that's been in most computer programs since 1984. An expansion or two ago, you could unofficially replace the font yourself, and it worked fine. I'd like to be able to *choose* from a couple fonts, or at least, allow us to modify the font ourselves once again.

I don't think CCP actually has any GUI people. They don't seem to know their rectum from a hole in the ground when it comes to good GUI design.
Actions that require 18 steps aren't seen as a problem.
Making the entire game wait on market data seems fine to them. Probably because they're all sitting 2-3 hops from the servers and don't see a problem.
Modal dialogs with only an OK button are fine and dandy to them.
It's completely absurd. --

This is a very cool face lift awsom work guys.
I would like to add some thing though.
Its hard to setup a fleet in the first place and it dosnt seem that the UI for moving people around have been changed.
Anyway some last minute suggestions for the UI and yes they are mostlikely to late but here goes.
Quarry ship ships Quarry fittings Leadership skills Move more then one player at one time
The reason im suggestion this changes is that peopel are not alwayes listening up when the fleet is getting organized. As FC it can be a pain in the ass moving people around making room for them (you name it).
Now if you as FC/Boss wore able to quarry the diffrent things that ultimately determins where in a fleet a certent pilote belongs then he or she could quarry lets say points and move all taclers into the same squard('s).
Or you could quait quickly move all your heavy hitters into the same wing with the best bonuses. Maybe move all shield tankers into a special wing cause some guy in a commandship have got bether skills then the FC.
Give people the tool to get the best fleet configuration they can imagin.
Ultimately FC's could have a template (script) that did all the sording for them. That way you can put a fleet together in absolutely no time. With a script/template you might even be able to direct a player to the corect place in the fleet the second he/she accept the gang invite.
I know all this things are going to be breaking the privacy of players and potentially have an effect on the CCP database structure. Anyway there might be a smarter way of doing this things i just think thies imformation should be avalible to the FC.

Is there going to be an align to option that actually aligns the fleet, rather then just showing where to align? I have always found it annoying that there isn't one. And it would certainly be helpful if there was.

Zulupark, you sure are getting both love (fleet command improvements) and hate (carrier drama) recently!
Thank you so much for looking at the UI, I love the changes you have shown so far, but I have some questions and suggestions.
*) Key bindings. We definitely need key bindings for "recall drones", "next locked target", "drones mine/rep/attack target", "launch drone group #". Keys are much faster for repeated actions than mouse movements. Plus with the EVE UI the targets for clicking the mouse are often very, very small.
*) Will the UI released this winter be rendered/computed by the graphics card or will the windows be rendered "on top" of the 3D content.
Wow. This laptop just hard reset, but firefox saved the session and all the text above this.
*) Take a leaf from firefox's book and make characters rejoin gangs etc when they log back in after a disconnect.
*) You need to improve the indicators for active modules. I'm sure that you've had a lot of feedback on this issue but I need to say it again. Blurry light green halos around active modules has to go. On anything other than black space, it's very difficult to tell what is active.
*) The static areas of the screen need to be able to move. Please make it so I can drag the system information list and the ship info layout around the screen. --

Everyday some time is spent tweaking window locations as is. It would be of huge benefit if the changes followed the account from computer to computer.

I've been thinking about this for a while too. If your computer is in a network with roaming profiles all your settings is lost during reboot too
Please, atleast move the settings out of '<User>\Local Settings\Programdata' to '<user>\programdata'

Please read the thread, we're changing this in the SiSi patch this weekend.
Originally by: Random Caldari 4) when the overview goes screwy theres no way to manually reset it anymore. E.G. I set my destination to system A. Stargate A dutifully highlights on the overview. I change my mind and set my destination to a different system. I know the route and am expecting Stargate C to be highlighted. But it isnt, in fact stargate A and Stargate B are now highlighted both of them wrong.
Known issue, we're working on it.

Less clutter, especially when you have pinned the windows.

There's some nice stuff there.
The one thing that I really think needs attention is the EW notifications. If I'm in a fight, I need to see if I'm warp scrambled or webbed or tracking disrupted etc. Graphical effects don't cut it as everyone involved in fleet fight turns off turrets and effects. Text notifications get lost and overwritten by damage notifications.
Please, give me little red/blue/green lights somewhere so I can see easily so I can see instantly that I'm being EW'd.
Eve Voice is a bit redundant in my opinion. I don't know anyone that uses it, and while it's a paid-for-extra, the vast majority of people never will use it. Not while teamspeak servers are so easy to come by.

Zulupark,
Glad you finally got a dev blog that shows we can send some love instead of just hate. The GUI improvements actually are improvements--good job.
The GUI still looks old and tired, though. I think we were hoping for a revamp, and possibly even an XML template which can be adjusted to fit each of our individual needs. Personally, I think the way chat works is fine--I like keeping my chat channels separate. The next person that says "Look how WoW does it!" should probably be drawn and quartered. ;-)
What I do not see is how the drone interface is being enhanced. It would be super if you could do a dev blog on the thinking in this area. As it stands, managing drones is a bit clumsy. Grouping needs improvement. Deploying and controlling them needs improvement. Knowing what your drones are up to needs a LOT of improvement. :)

Looks nice, though I don't know anyone that uses eve voice, personally use ts... but as for the ui changes, I'll wait for the finished product on tq before passing judgment... I would like to see, however, maybe the last 5-10 combat messages scrolling themselves during combat at least so I can tell when I'm scram'd on top of a web, as the current visuals don't make the distinction...
Also moving the middle stats display and modules will be nice, hope that's not a soon tm thing. . - Justice, Mercy, and Faith

Hi just wanted to say....everything sounds nice. I don't think Eve Voice is going to get much use from people that already use Vent/TS, but hey that not saying this voice is "bad" in the way it operates. I like the controls you are giving the Squad, Wing, and FC for controlling coms. When this comes out as a stand alone program an not dependent for the Eve client to be running then I expect lots of people will be using it. I mean if you are playing some TF2 and are on TS and a big fight in Eve kicks off at least someone can drop into your channel and tell you to log back into the game.

Agreed. Most players aren't going to use in-game voice chat until you can maintain it active when the client crashes. For some roles it's VITAL to let someone know if you crashed. With vent/TS, you can.

While the ability to configure shortcuts for the basic drone command is nice. It would be even nicer if you could split up the launch command so that it is launch drone group 1 launch drone group 2 etc.
Also I love the addition of the focus fire drone setting. An addition could be spread fire, where a drone will not chose a target that another drone already has. So if you ex. have a mission with 10 dumb rats in rookie ships. You can get the drones to each take one rat, instead of 2-3 on the same rat.
