In my experience you guys are one of the best companies. I see you in the help channel talking and playing with us, when I subbed to the game I had a GM come to me personally and ask if I am alright and enjoying myself, I see you make decent updates and with this you did the right thing.
<3 you guys |

Thanks for keeping all our stuffs secure, CCP. Better to err on the side of caution, given the lessons learned from the Sony incident. |

Originally by: Minntinni Thank you CCP for your quick action and your general professionalism about this whole thing. While some of the other sites hit went quiet, you let us know what was happening, took quick action to guarantee the safety of your customers, and got things going again as fast as possible. Today was a shining example of CCP doing everything right, and why you deserve my 15$ a month. Thank you.

Originally by: CCP Guard Dear friends.
Our services were subjected to a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) at 17:00 UTC. We took everything down for the sake of caution while we conducted a full investigation.
Your data was not compromised and we are back in action.
Please go here for more details.
We thank you for your patience and hope you enjoy drifting back into space.
Update: Tranquility is back offline. Please see this news post for more information and we will keep you updated as soon as possible.
Yay for doing the right thing.
Now if only we could call some dusties to go wipe out these pesky Lulzers.... |

We would like to annouce that Atlas. has paid LulzSec to carry out the final, and most important stage of Operation: Free Shmak Datash.

Looks like LulzSec initiated a DDOS against Eveonline login servers according to what I read earlier today:
Slashdot Article on Eveonline outage
For those who dont know, a DDOS stands for Distributed Denial Of Service and is usually meant to do exactly what the name sounds like, meaning deny the use of a service, this case logging into Tranquility. CCP did do the right thing in taking things down and auditing their stuff to make sure nothing was breached.
I'm sure many people here would like to hear a more techincal explanation of what occured and if anything else besides a DDOS was found. Perhaps when the smoke clears we can get a juicy Dev blog? |

You missed that its also rather expensive.
If you start getting DDoS'ed all the time then it makes sense to get some security firms to hunt down and block the attackers... but for (hopefully) one off attacks it makes better sense to just duck and cover. |

A word to the wise...
If CCP is being subject to a DDoS attack your best bet is to get your ships safe and dock up. There is very little CCP can do to stop the attack and, if the attackers are persistent enough, they will succeed in bringing the servers down again and again.

Im sure this will get deleted, but, just like they told us that our data was not at risk during the new forums fiasco and Helicity proved them wrong in that regard, see the Helicity blog for more info, this particular incident was pulled off by lulzsec, a fairly elite hacker group that is known for hacking into systems during DDoS attacks and taking data (Read Sony), take what CCP says with a grain of salt, they have subscribers to retain. Lulz tweet page is here: http://twitter.com/#!/LulzSec |

Lulzsec needs to be podded.... and have all their clone contracts revoked. Then a Moros capital ship needs to assume assault orbit over their homes and their families homes and open fire until nothing but vapor remains.

Yeah, but sony deserved what they got after they tried to sue someone that tried to help them But still, Great job CCP, i think it was the smart choice. Lulzsec probably thinks their so cool, cant wait untill someone stops them |

They made the right move shutting down the servers. I hope they caught the people(s) doing this too as a DDOS is illegal.
I had one of those on another game and the people doing it were busted. |

Sorry if I am gonna have to crab like a lot of other people, but what fun that on one of my two days off, on my birthday, this happens. Not you're fault I know, but what I am annoyed about is that the server comes back up and then I get kicked off again...trying to reset my PI so I can at least get SOME ISK.
Yeesh...wonder how I can make back the ISK I lost from this fiasco...
Ha ha, can totally relate, every time I end up with time off work there's either a patch or an outage! The sooner this is sorted the better, can't keep depriving people of blowing me up lol |

Nice job CCP. While DDos happen all the time, this group has been doing some really nasty stuff of late - Bethesda had source code stolen and posted online - A through security review was the prudent thing to do. |
