I just have to say... in a game where the developers actively promote scamming, griefing, cheating, backstabbing, meta gaming, harassment, and a bunch of other things that would get you permabanned in other communities... well... lolkarma.

To resolve this DDoS attack and hunt down this gays, just pay some money to Sicilian Mafia, let they del with them. Maybe this is not the right legal way, but is very efficient.

I just wanted to put in my 2 cents and say good job CCP.. I'm sure you'll hear enough people complaining, and I wanted to put a few good words in on the other side of the board.

While I realize this is not CCPs fault, do we get game time credit (a day or two?) or some free SP (or both...) for this? That would be nice. I haven't played at all today and I need to PLEX up soon and am nowhere near where I need to be and not being able to log in is kind of not helping.
Just a thought, I'm sure other people are in a similar situation.

Originally by: Ruri Mizushisi I'm almost - but only almost - feeling like a bad person for, on some level, finding this aspect of the whole situation rather funny.
And yet by the next time we're facing three nights of extended downtime for Incarna 1.2 + client patch 1 + client patch 2, they'll have forgotten the events of today. *sigh*

Doesn't matter if its CCP's fault or not, some compensation for their inability to provide the service paid for should be given, if only because you appreciate your customers, right CCP?
I do have to quote someone else on this forum and say- "We're players of EVE Online- we sit and camp gates for hours on end, we grind rats, we wait for fleets to assemble and we fly in bonecrushing lag during fleet ops. We're used to this- do you really think you have more patience for ddos'ing this community than we have?" ~ Someone posted something like this somewhere in general discussion. I liked it.

I hope all of you baby-faced whiners get hacked. Seems like every time something unexpected happens to this game, a certain group of players feel compelled to feast on cheese and wine until CCP gives them what they want.
I do not feel that anyone is entitled to anything in circumstances like these. Businesses around the world are being targeted by these hacking groups for no reason at all. Unfortunately, CCP has been targeted and they are doing everything they can to protect our personal information from these hackers. I think that is compensation enough.
CCP, thank you very much for doing everything in your power to keep our personal data safe.

For any other service, any time there is an outage you generally get a credit for it. When my website went down because someone DDoSed another site hosted by the same company I still got a week added to my billing for free. When my VPS went down because of a hard drive problem, their terms of service covered them from being liable, but since it was down 2 days I got an entire month for free. When my internet went down for a day I got a billing credit.
Companies that value their customers always give them credit for things that inconvenience them, even when it's not the companies fault. That's how business works. If you like your customers you do things that make them happy, that includes going above and beyond.

Nothing legal, heroic or fun about DDoS attacks. It's not a case of "oh hai, your security is weak here" hacking, more a case of "Hmmm, we have a botnet with a DDoS cannon, who do we fire it at?" Escapist Magazine, Minecraft and League of Heroes were also knocked down. Escapist for apparently saying bad things about LulzSec, ujelly bro?
I applaud the descision by CCP to go offline while they check, it is extremely difficult to function under sustained DDoS assaults, staying online isn't as simple as installing a firewall or telling the ISP. The perpetrators have knocked down other game companies, credit card companies, hacked government sites, so simple measures doesn't cut it. I'd rather lose a few hours of playing than find out my account details have been lifted from the servers. I think CCP's reaction was the best trade-off, it might provoke LulzSec again, but at least they should be better prepared for the next time.
I'd also encourage the community to update anti-virus/anti-trojan software. Less people be infected with the software that helps power botnets and DDoS.

Dont we push the I ACCEPT button when we log in/create an account?

created a new post for this but was locked (sorry CCP Spitfire my bad :)
I was following lulzsec and Eve Online twitter feeds last night and saw that somebody posted a link to Atlas website where they stated they had paid lulzsec to attack Eve.
So I visited there website and there it was... they were claiming that they were responsible.
As of this morning that message has been removed so these leads me to ask the following questions
Was Atlas responsible or have a hand in the reason why lulzsec decided to attack Eve Online?
Was Atlas hacked by another corp?
Was it a stunt by somebody in Atlas it get some attention?

Probably just a useless boast.

CCP have been at this game for many years and have learnt alot. These situations show they are more than capable of looking after themselves and their customers. Especially in the state the world is in at the moment it's even harder to do that. CCP did a brilliant job as they always do and will always have my support.
Another cold and lonely rainy day comes to an end. I have to clean my mind before I sleep or else I tend, to close my eyes and realise there's nothing there but light. I need shadow, I need darkness, to help me through the night. |
