The "double click in space and the client freezes" bug is no longer in wine 1.1.4
This was probably exclusive to the geforce 7 series (or maybe just my card, I don't know).
Anyways, it's fixed, and wow, I forgot how good premium gfx looks.

Eh? What double click freezes? It never happened to me ^_^
Hmm Intel chipset might not like Premium mode, after install, start once in "Safemode" (/safemode) and adjust settings as needed.
In the winehq page there are repositories for Debian (tested with etch and lenny) use them so you get wine 1.1.4. -- Running Eve Online Premium with Ubuntu 8.04 |

regarding the intel graphics machine, well it is a machine at work, and i forgot to mention that i also tried to run it over a vserver. anyway, i did put in a nvidia 8500 on it, but couldn't get nvidia dri running over vserver (i could with intel), but that problem is out of topic here, so i'll cut it.
regarding the freeze near gates (with the classic client, with the nvidia 5300 at home)... i am almost positive it is caused by concord billboards. when you get close to a gate, the bounty picture on the concord billboard loads up. i think the freeze is caused by the texture generation of this bounty picture. the freeze happens again when you wait at the gate and a new bounty picture loads up. at that time, if you have warnings printing, wine *****es about an incorrectly formed texture that is out of bounds or something. looking at the texture, i can see that the bounty text message overflows the bounty picture. So I am suspicious about whether the required font is missing. maybe msttcorefonts is not enough. wine also warns about several fonts not being found during eve load, like msmincho and others. so that is just my suspicion. just a hypothesis at this stage, i haven't tested it out by going to gates without concord billboards, or trying to load the missing fonts in the debug.
regarding the winehq sources: thanks for the link. but a quick look into the site showed me debian version is still in 1.1.1. And it must be built by ubuntu packagers, because the packages aren't built the debian way (and it is an ubuntu site.) basically it is one huge wine package with everything. debian and ubuntu packagers have different models to package wine, and I guess I prefer to debian way better. so i go 'meh', but i'll try it if I can't get it working another way.
Which will be sometime later, since I am leaving for a holiday for couple of weeks.
Thanks for the attention!

Just loaded up EVE with premium graphics under the latest Wine, and it seems to work. Almost.
I may find other issues once I really start using it, but I can't get past one annoying (and hopefully trivial) problem. After undocking, right-clicking anywhere in space gives me the menu for the space station. No matter where I face, including in the opposite direction. So I can't go anywhere.
Ideas?
Forgive me if this was answered earlier in this thread. 74 pages of posts is just over-whelming. Thanks!

What wine version do u use ? I used to have this problem with pre 1.0 versions of wine when using premium content. I still use wine 1.10 because of the window mode regression - Wine Bug#:14282 in wine >= 1.1.1 (i dont know if there are other regressions in latest wine (1.1.4) , i just instaled it to check the window mode bug and downgraded back to 1.1.0)
Also try to use the latest drivers (nvidia graphic card ?),it may be a bug triggered by a buggy old driver.

Ok, here is my feedback about my eve premium wine test.
I have a 7600GS, run OpenSUSE 10.3 on a 64bit box and just installed wine 1.1.4.
For the installation I did everything mentioned in the appdb entry for eve premium.
At first I had very low fps values near a station, then I turned off shadows and now I have playable fps at stations/gates and good fps everywhere else. The "background becomes a box with garbled texture" issue is gone now, at least I haven't experienced it over the last 2 weeks since I have wine 1.1.4. The mini maps are still broken, but that's a known issue. The second issue, and a really annoying one, is that the map (F10) is really laggy when I'm in space. In station it is ok, however.
Except for these two things everything else works perfectly.

Hi,
i installed wine & eve with premium content on my SuSe11.0 System. I execute the eve.exe via a bash script, wich starts eve within its own X session. The script looks like that ( just for the case ;) )
#!/bin/sh
X :3 -ac -terminate & sleep 2 DISPLAY=:3 `which wine` /path/to/eve.exe
No Problems with graphic content or fonts, everything seems to be fine except massive problems warping to a jump gate. after arriving at the gate system seems to lag like hell, sometimes it freezes for about 30 seconds and more then ship moves a few meters and the next freeze. quite difficult to get the ship jumping through with the same problem at the other site. problems seem to disapear by moving away from the jumpgates. ayn idea how to fix that?

Umm if this is what i think, here is a tip: Next to the (solar) system name, is a small white arrow, click there and you'll get the menu you usually get in the middle of space (planets, belts, etc). You should also be able to use the overview to jump to gates, planets, etc (if you add them). -- Running Eve Online Premium with Ubuntu 8.04 |

Originally by: Debeus TS2 (for windows) works fine with wine and with eve running along. When asked, don't install additional codecs (these will fail anyway). TS2 for Linux uses OSS which doesn't share the audio, so don't bother
In the past when I was using the Linux TS2 client, I would simply start it using: "aoss teamspeak" and it works flawlessly. Granted mileage may vary depending on your hardware, but so far I have had good luck with it.
For those of you that don't know, the 'aoss' command simply reroutes the OSS data through ALSA, so then your OSS based app can share audio due to ALSA's nature.
Though now days EVE-Voice works so flawlessly for me that I have no use for TS2 anymore.

Found workaround: Use the option "Emulate Virtual Desktop" in winecfg. Unfortunately this traps all wine windows in it, but you can alt-tab back and forth again.
Or don't use the winecfg global option, just run the eve client like this: wine explorer /desktop=name,1152x864 eve.exe (choose your favorite resolution, can be the same as your screen)
And this won't trap the other wine programs (ie: ts2) which don't need to emulate a desktop.
Use a different name for each client you want separate (/desktop=e, /desktop=e1, etc.) and each desktop will appear as separate programs to your WM, just as if you were running two clients normally.

One remark for the XFCE users. You can make the window to show in fullscreen mode with ALT+F11 shortcut.

Well, specifying the same resolution as the screen, and having in game the same resolution and fullscreen results in fullscreen.
Incidentally alt-f10 is maximize for gnome, alt-f9 minimize. -- Wine + fix |

Works great other than for the fact that when I'm running ts2 normally (through wine, not emulating desktop) the push to talk & whisper buttons work only when the ts2 window is active. Any thoughts how this could be solved?
Also, using multiple clients in separate desktops really hurts performance...

I've noticed that some hotkeys don't work too in virtual desktop - e.g. one of my mouse buttons activates MWD in 'plain' wine window (i've used xbindkeys for that), but it doesn't activate it in emulated desktop.

Hey everyone. This is an awesome thread (wow soo many pages). I've been trying to improve my performance in eve and noticed that my FPS would tank when I was looking at the sun (getting about 9-15 fps). I've got decent specs so I went over to nvidias' linux forum for a fix and found this:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=118088
I now get about 45-60 fps while flying in space. I can rotate my view and the fps doesn't tank when I look at the sun. Looking forward to heading to jita and seeing how my performance handles it.

Just checking - anyone managed to get current singularity client to work in wine? Patching failed for me, complaining about DXSETUP.exe being corrupted. I don't know why they would need to patch this file, but I'm sure mine isn't corrupted, I double-checked with a couple people using windows...

Well, I tried again, and it still failed during the patch install (5.11.64451 -> 5.12.66029).
Quote:
Patching Error in the file bin\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe. The specified File did not have the correct CRC.
This indicates that your installation is corrupt. Please reinstall EVE-online
As I said in my previous post, my installation is fine (it's copied from my tranquility client folder), and I've compared this particular file with pure windows installs, and it's not corrupted. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 (32 bits) and using wine 1.1.6, but it failed before with 1.1.4 too. If anyone has some ideas about what's going on here...
