Edited by: CaptMorgan on 14/04/2004 10:53:21 I tryed searching for this request thinking im sure someone already thought of this but...
Could we have a way to train our skills via this site? It would be very nice to do do some skill training at work. My work computer cant run eve because of the video card. This would also help if anyone is having computer problems and cant get into eve.
EDIT:I would like to also push the Qued skill idea mentioned in most of the replys in this post.

Yeah, exactly the same situation, can't run Eve at work and i'd like to be able to switch my researches by the Eve website. I think it could be more profitable for you, CCP, because of people who go on hollidays during one month, unable to switch their researches, it's possible they don't pay for this month. But in the case they could switch it only wia an internet connection could make them keep their subscription during their vacations...

I would even pay extra to be able to switch skills via the web interface.

It will be great to have this on use. Anyone that cant run eve cuz they are at work, college or other than his owm PC. Can access his character and train their skill. I can't run eve sometimes cuz im at college and on work. Neo

Yeah, that'd be great. I'm being deployed for 12 months and I wont have access to EVE. But if I could continue training my skills via a web based program somehow, I'd probably keep my subscription.

I think web-based training is absolutely a good idea.. How about a training-que too? When you're off to vacation or something then you can set up a que with deisred skills to train.. Especially good with those skills who take 9 hours etc.. I can only train them in weekends or a bit there and a bit here..

wow, i'll definately sign this thread. that would be awesome. my laptop can't run eve, but it always has net access.
plus if you could browse / buy / sell on the eve market with a web interface, that would be even better!

I like that idea about the training que. I would actually settle for that if a web based skill training could not be possible. Maybe this could be introduced as a new learning skill, to be able to que your skill training...?

That's a wonderful idea to train skills from the internet. It would keep people conected to Eve when they could not access thier gaming system. I would use it from work.
A skill training queue would be awesome, save me from setting alarms in the middle of the night.
If that wasn't possible, I've even settle for a in game search on skills based on hours. You could select from a drop down "Skills under one hour, Skills 2-3 hours, Skills 4-5 hours, etc., Skills 1Day, Skills 1Day+" Perhaps not as vital but at least you could get an idea of the next time your logging on and select a training sesion based on that time.
Great ideas here, be nice to see them realized. Midshipman Cubis(Mining & Transport) -Logistics Division -

I was going to post this myself, but since this is already up, I'll just add my name.
I've just started playing really, and I have internet access from work. It would be rather spiffy to be able to train skills via the internet.

I think many have this problem. But if you could run skills and etc from this site it would be a huge help. Like many are working overday that couls check quick once the site and activate some things with out starting up the game. Sure it must be possible as they proposed SMS message that means that CCP can extract info out of EVE in a non eve software. So the idea proposed in this topic has my 5000% support Resigned CEO of UPS

Actually, the idea was mentioned several times, even in some CSMs.
Its a good idea indeed, no need to say more. Skill training at the moment is a pain in the ass. For example: i had to stop training of a skill yesterday, because it only had 9-10 hours left, and i knew i'll be at work at that time, not being ablt to start a new one.
The interface to check what your skills are is already there, they would only have to add a train button next to each skill.
Additionally, what about an EVE-Chat client, that lets you to chat in EVE without actually running the game. An EVE manager for example, that lets you: - check / set skills and training - read / write EVE-Mail messages - join / talk on corporate and custom chat channels
I dont care if you need to have the game installed for it to work, just make a simple windows gui version of the manager, as while i can install the game anywhere i want, i cant have it running at work. ;)
just my two cents ------------- This post is nothing more than my personal opinion. It does not represent the official standpoint of Fountain Alliance, or the HUN Corporation in any way. ------------- |

Aye, if CCP could implement this, I think it would be a fantastic feature. The idea of queueing your skill training is also a good idea.

I love that idea! That would make it so much easier to train skills from work.....Since the firewall here sucks and won't let me connect to eve. Hell, half the time I can't even get to the corp or eve-online site.....

This debate has been around since the dawn of eve. It was argued that many people log in just to set skills off, before logging out. By using a web based skill system, people would just not bother to log on and "play". As you can imagine, the debate ended with a resounding "no". Eve veterans from the lauch would remember this arguement.

Totally agree with Capt.
To counter the point of "ppl won't log in anymore". what difference does it make. CCP still gets their monthly fee so why not make it easier to change skills. Especially for all the noobs. Having 10 skills that take 30-50mins each is a pain.
Having the ability to train skills offline, imo, would make eve a more diverse universe. I have a bunch of skills i would love to train up but don't have the ingame time to wait for the training to complete.

Disagree: Good example of this benefitting CCP/EVE is, one of our corp mates is in Iraq for a year. He has iternet access so he would be able to train skills if this idea were implemented. Luckly he has RL co-workers in the corp who are training his skills up for him while he is away. Now if he didnt have anyone to login to his account and train skills for him for a year...would you pay CCP to have an active account? No, of coarse not.
I corp mate of mine (Bandus) posted in our corp forums a link to this: http://www.eve-i.com/home/dancer/page/page_eveskillmonitor.php

Take my situation for instance, if I can have a second of your time. I work at a university which of course has as many games and P2P services blocked as they can, as they should. For the most part of the week, I simply dont have access to a computer that I can run EVE on.
It should be obvious that since my skills are being neglected from all that downtime, I'm considering simply giving the game up entirely. If I could watch after my skills on the web (which of course isn't blocked at the university), I would most likely keep my subscription.

Ok, so what would be the difference from me installing Eve at work, logging in real fast and setting my skill? Some people are fortunate enough to be able to do that... Many are not so fortunate. So why single out the people who don't have that option? Its the same thing. And what do you care if they "play" or not? They pay for the account just like everyone else. Its just a different method of getting the same thing done. Wether I log in through the game or through a website. Its all connected to the same network bud.

Well, if alot of people are doing this logging in to change skills then logging of they arenot really playing anyway so what differnce does it make if they changed it on the website. They still have an active account and it would just make less traffic for the ones who wanna play!
