Hey ya.
Over the next few releases weÆre going to be doing some major changes to the drone system, both the drone behavior and some UI changes. I want your feedback and your ideas in this threadà
IÆll start off with some of the stuff weÆre already planning. This isnÆt final and might or might not get into the next release, so donÆt go crazy on me if it doesn't:
Improvements :
òMake them more responsive òIncreasing the scoop range by 500m-1000m
New stuff:
Drone Settings:
Where you setup basic drone behavior. There will be a standard ôoption menuö, as well as hotkeys to switch between modes.
òAggressive û Attacks anything that attacks you or you attack. òPassive û Donæt attack anything, unless you directly command them to. When the target is destroyed they simply return and orbit.
Fighters only:
òAttack and follow û The fighters pursue the target if the target warps away.
New Drone Commands:
Guard
Allows you to assign your drones to a gang mate, the drones will follow the gang mate around and attack everything that attacks him.
Assist
Allows you to assign your drones to a gang mate, the drones will follow the gang mate around and attack everything he attacks
UI Changes:
IÆm not going into a lot of details here, but weÆre at least planning some major changes.
òPossibly new super cool buttons to control your drones with òBetter way of managing drone groups òHotkeys
Going to keep my post short, but will keep a close eye on this thread so post away with drone ideas...

Now some more issues:
- Sentry drones, give them some scooping speed, its really pita if ur carrier gets bumped. - Drone ui AWAY from that overview column (prefferably moveable like cargobay), its not possible to play carrier on 1024 resolution - Let us sort drones inside station - Let us tell drones to NOT orbit but only approach (tracking issues vs static targets :|) - HP buff for drones, they are far too easy to kill. - Show hp of delegated fighters ! ---

add an option to the sugested aggressive (as now) mode that means that they don't attack gang mates, accidents happen. also an option that limits how far away from you they'll chase a target so you don't end up losing them due to them ending up in a hostile blob with no way to recall them in time. multi tier drone groups for the UI would help hugely.

Help mode -
Repairs team mate most in need.
Something that gives a option whether to recharge your drones shield to full when scooped( Because of a small capacitor drained per drone for full shield energy )

As the Rokh being the most expensive Caldari battleship, it would really be AWESOME if it could get a 100m3 drone bay, or at least just 75m3, as the other ships. The reason I'm saying this is, that the Rokh, in my opinion, isn't suited for attack/damage dealing, more tanking. 4 heavy drones could really make this a favorable choice for many, I think

Maybe this can also be fixed with a new skill which increase tracking speed on all drones? I think about a Rank 1 (or Rank 2) skill similar to the Drone Navigation and Drone Sharpshooting skill. Or will then the Omnidirectional Tracking Link also needs some adjustments?
I also like to see the "show info" window on scooped drones re-sorted (all the shield and armor stats in a row and so on) and of course it should include skills and module attributes.

as long as drones are off the overview, its sooo annoying trying to find targets as well as watching fighter health!
Also can u make it so that we can check drone damage in drone bays, its annoying not knowing which fighters/drones are damaged.

I sort of have a few questions about drone AI. Are there any plans to adjust auto-aggro for drones? There's stuff in your post about "Aggressive" settings and "Guard" mode, where it says that drones attack whatever you attack, but how will it be different from how drones currently behave?
For example, right now, if I'm running a mission and I send whatever drones I have at some NPC, it dies, and then the drones sort of split off and seem to attack whatever is closest.
In Rev 3.0, will it be so that with the "Aggressive" setting on, after the NPC dies to the drones, the drones stop and wait for me to attack something else. Once I shoot another NPC, they then automatically go after it?
Building off of that, what would trigger the drones in "Aggressive" mode to move on the next target? Would it just be firing a missile or turret-based weapon at something? Would using electronic warfare (e.g. Tracking Disruptors, Webs, Scrams, etc) trigger them to move to the next target? Would just targeting something, nothing else, count as a trigger for the drones to attack? (I assume it wouldn't)
Maybe a lot of questions all at once, but I'm just curious. |

This is eve so lets make it more complicated lol. How about drone mines. A pod that spawns drones of one type - light, medium or large onto the battlefield at - standing ships. Small drone nests could have 25m3, medium 50m3, and large 125m3. A drone nest would have to be anchored. Choose some time say 3 minutes :) . Full Spectrum Mercenary |

we have something like this already they're called cruisers and they don't need to be anchored.

drone mode: very aggresive=attacks anything with a bounty within the range. defensive: drones alway attacks and focus fire on a enemi attacking one of the drones.
and one VERY importent thing: Focus fire: drones focus there fire on the same target. spread fire: drones attacks whatever is there.(like now)

I remember an old-old game called B.A.T. for my Amstrad CPC 6128+ ('was very popular in Europe ). This game had B.O.B which was a computer planted in your hand and you could program it, with very simple instructions.
What about programmable drone UI and five buttons ? Program 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, the programming skill, and people happy. they want to snipe with their drone ? Enter this one : [aggro at] 2km [shoot when] "RED" [enters your] 20km [focus a target].
They want NRDS agressive behaviour ? This one : [aggro at] max range [shoot when] anyone "with corp standing <= -5" [enters your] 1km [spread fire].
They want NBSI guarding ? Let's go : [aggro at] min range [shoot when] anyone "with alliance standing <= 0" [shoot at] me [focus]
They want "mini-sentries" ? [do not move] [shoot when] anyone "with alliance standing <= 0" [enters your] 2km [spread fire]
They want auto "aggro on the target" drones ? Might be dangerous but here it is : [aggro at] target [shoot when] anyone "with alliance standing <= -5" [focus]
They want auto-armor repair ? [shoot when] anyone "with personal standing = 10" [have armor less than] 35% [spread fire]
Etc, etc. Or something more evolved but if BAT have being doing this... Eve could :) :) Maybe if something is done like this I should stop whining about python in Eve. Anyway... :p 2isk

I find the drone behaviour ideas nice, and would also love to see my drone "health" when they are in the drone bay, as someone already mentioned above.
I would also love to see a Salvager drone in action. I've heard that it exists in the Item Database, but not In-game (I have not checked that). Would really love to have one, though.
Just the other day, I posted a topic in Features & Ideas Forum about showing the skill based bonuses in the attributes of the drones in the drone bay. By this I mean like skill bonuses are factored in on the attributes of missiles, turrets, launchers, shield/armor/hull HP/resistances, I want to see how my Drone Sharpshooting/Drone durability and so on affect the attributes visually, for all drones in my drone bay.

A nice touch would be to make any repair drones active and in space respond to calls for help. Someone hits "Need Armour/Shield" in the broadcast interface, your armour/shield repair drones zoom towards him and start doing their thing. Ideally their actions would be triggered by the stance, but we're getting into murky ground here.

Give it it's own window much like people/places, cargo bay and any other aspect of the ship. While you're at it pull the gang/fleet control area off of the overview as well. It is insanely hard to try to organize multi wing multi squad fleet and still have any overview left to manage target calling with.

I'll sign this too. Considering the current trend of monitor design is for widescreen, many folks have remarkably few vertical pixels - sometimes as low as 768 - to play with.
That means that if you have the fleet, broadcast and drones windows up you can see perhaps one or two things in your overview. Not cool...

Ok this is all nice and cool, but isn't it time that they learn how to work in a gang? and maybe even make groups of them that do not break when attacking the enemy? In my honest opinion, drones without concetrated fire, don't do much damage.
Also if you can manually group them you could automatically have a carrier that can attack different targets at a time, without much problem.
Now every drone wants it's own target and that makes them silly, some might even call them stupid... But they are not! /me loves his drones

Hmmm, so if your gang-mate goes all crazy and accidently attacks a wreck of another gang-mate (not yours, and not someone in your corp), as often happens in mission gangs, and your drones attack that wreck do you also get the aggression and CONCORD-idioted?
In the same vein, what if he attacks a corp mate of his (and you aren't in the same corp), does CONCORD come after you?
Oh, what happens when he turns your own drone against you? Sure, you could regain control, but do you get CONCORD-idioted because you attacked yourself? Does he get CONCORD-idioted for attacking you with your own drones? Does the EVE Universe reset via the paradox???? -------------------

Drone need two more options :
1. All drones attack always the same target 2. An option for attack structure (For destroy all structures after a mission without lock structure one by one)
After add some improvements like :
- The drone adapt this speed with the tracking of that turret and the speed/signature of the target for increase the number of hit. Too many shoot miss actually because the orbit speed is too high. - If drone is stas or take damage, increase this speed and keep the right alignment for dodge shoot. - Add something in the UI for watch quickly if a drone is locked or/and attacked.
Thx for these change CCP. We wait for long time ...

How did you come to that conclusion...based on the order that the information was presented in the OP, it looks like new functionality is being added to standard drones...

here's a wierd idea... but hell here goes.
a setting where your drones fly out full speed! attack until they kill your target, and then instead of coming back and orbiting, they redock with your ship. making them into more like missiles that can fly off attack and then return. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP need...more room... |

For hotkeys, I'd really like one each for engage, return to orbit, and return to bay.
I'm sure that's a given but I'm only 2 months old in this game and, well, that would be sure nice ;)

I would like to see some of these changes that would be great. How about also making drones not just fighters warp with you , and or at least return automatically to drone bay when your client crashes . I know fighters return or are suppose to return when clients crash but regular drones are AI just like fighters.
All drone forms should work the same ways . Assignment , warping, sorting in drone bays. Drones should repair over time rather then always having to rep them back up . Not a rapid repair but if they are in idle mod they auto repair themselfs not alot but a slow recharge of some sort.
