With Oceanus, the next release to be published on September 30th, we will also see the beginning of an improved notification system.
This new system, while still in the early stage, gives you a much better sense of what is going on in EVE regardless if it unpaid bills, friends getting online, insurance notification or all sort of other things. The new system is also highly configurable; for example you can precisely select those notification that you would like to as visual reminder on screen, via email or not at all.
This feature is fully Opt-In, so if you want to experience this new notification system with Oceanus, please check how to activate the experimental notification system.
Read all the details on how this new notification system works and what the future holds in CCP Rise' latest dev blog Opt-in Notification changes for Oceanus! CCP Phantom - Senior Community Representative - Volunteer Manager |

Interesting to see an Opt-in system, I understand that it seems necessary since not all possible notifications are included yet. But still this is kind of a new way of implementing features, and I salute the effort !
For the sake of development efficiency, I just hope that it ultimately becomes a feature for 100% of the users in some months.
Edit: Also this first paragraph on the NPE and how working on it, to make it more open-ended, can mean improving quality of life for every one... GOOD JOB!
And while I'm at it, just in case it needs to be repeated, I believe that having a good npe is THE-BEST-THING to have if you want your MMO to grow. Especially EVE. Just sayin'. Signature Tanking - Best Tanking

Hm, can't judge it yet, since I haven't seen it in action obviously, but wouldn't this be a nice thing to have on the bar on the left side, even if optionally? I'm not sure what it's called, I mean the one where the current system, route, agent missions etc. are also shown. |

Would be cool to be able quickly dismiss popup (or all of them) when they get in your way and you need area below them right now. For single popups right mouse button can be used, like in miranda and other IMs, for multiples - rmb on that popup widget or some hotkey.
Also IM-like status switch please, which controls if popups are shown to you or silently go to history when you're busy. |

We are doing some final touches before we enable it on sisi.
You will be able to have the widget anywhere on the screen (on top of the neocom if you want to). Which notifications popup and show up in history will be fully configurable and configurable seperatly.
When we enable it we will let you know.

Adding invites to this system is something we want to do but don't have yet, hopefully before long though. Anything added to this system will have the option to have a sound alert associated with it so that would come naturally once invites were added.

These are interesting ideas. We talked about whether a fast dismiss button was necessary and haven't added one for now, but this would be a good thing for us to get feedback on during the opt-in phase.

Please no clicking to dismiss. Add an on screen affordance for this. You know like everyone else does. If you want to add a click to dismiss all, make it clicking on the little notification icon. |

This is an old feature that's only been used a few times (the only time I remember was the current Neocom with Incursion, I'm assuming there's something else I'm forgetting). Some non-core systems can function both old and new on the client side and get to take advantage of the opt-in.
The problem is that most of the patches between now and then affected everything (like ship balance or whatever). Tooltips probably should have used this feature too. |

This looks like a nice tweak to tidying up the messaging system.
It would be cool to tie this in with the chat channel highlighting of keywords. The notification could have the message which contained the highlighted word. Clicking on the notification could open the appropriate window scrolled to the appropriate place. |

Our team is dedicated to working on the new player experience (NPE) and one of our goals is to eventually remove the existing tutorial and replace it with a much more open-ended experience
Yeah, right.
Remove what has to be one of the best tutorials in the online gaming industry. Then push the new player directly into one of the most "nooby-hostile" games in the industry even LESS prepared than they were before.
You guys truly do not want new players to change their trial accounts into subscriptions?
If you want new players to thrive in this game, remove the ease gankers have in targeting new players in high sec. Remove the ability to wardec new corp to death while the new player is trying to learn the game. Make manufacturing, industry, and non-PvP play easier to understand for the players who are trying to learn this VERY complicated game. Give Solo miners SOME way to combat being ganked. At this time, miners are simply meat-on-the-stick.
There are ways to make this game "nooby-friendly". |

Dying by attrition, most likely.
After all, EvE online is very complicated and it takes a long time to get even the slightest grasp of what's going on.
A great many new players don't want to be FORCED into joining some other players' organization (player corps) before they actually learn the game.
Most new players desire to play solo (at least while they're mining for 'start-up' credits). CCP continues to make the game more complicated for new players and continues to encourage established players to prey on new players (ganking).
So, older players are getting bored (happens to everyone eventually) and new players can't survive in the extremely hostile game unless they adhere to a strict style of play dictated by CCP.
Why would anyone want to play a game so difficult to learn, in which you are regarded as immature punks' fresh meat, and your actions are dictated to you by the company running the game? |

This makes no sense. Lots of games have implemented opt-in updates as a way of getting extended testing, and this is a great way for CCP to avoid having players complain that they liked the old system better etc. So I fail to see how CCP developing better ways of testing as well as implementing player feedback on how changes to the UI are made (e.g., slowly and with lots of options for configuration) is somehow evidence that "EVE is dying." Furthermore, this is a nice testing ground for CCP to have opt-in updates in the future where opt-in/out might be even more important. I'm sure you've given your post a lot of thought though.
Personally, I do hope the notification system is successful and that eventually as much as possible gets tied to it to reduce clutter and inconsistencies in how information is communicated. |

No one is forced to join any corp. If you want to solo play fine. The issue is, the numbers that ccp has proves you are wrong. But that's ok, keep spouting how being solo is what makes this game. its not, based on metrics.

I'm curious as to what you guys are going to do with the phasing out of the tutorial. Don't know much about this feature (eager to opt-in!) but the messages I want to see:
- market transactions (someone bought my stuff). include the item icon, name and transaction cost/value - market expirations (my stuff didn't sell). include the item icon, name and station - fleet members joining/leaving - MOTD messages of all chat windows, each message an individual toast. include only the first phrase/line - let players send toast messages (like in-game tweets?). let me chose who can send me messages (by standing, corp, alliance, fleet filters, names) - new modules usable from recently-learned skills. if i learn a skill i get a toast saying "You can now use [ ITEM ] !" One toast per item. Obviously don't send 10 toast for all the meta-levels of the same time, just the meta-0 or meta-5 versions at their respective skill unlocks. It's nice to see that i can now use all these shiny tech2 items now, im awesome. - ship requirements progression. whenever i learn a skill that is needed to pilot a ship show a toast saying "3/5 skill progress towards caldari battleships" - ship mastery progression. same as above. show progression criteria on ship masteries. clicking on the toast would open that ship's tooltip in ISIS. - mission objectives complete. it's really annoying to have to have the mission window across the entire screen just to know if the mission is complete. also include this in the mission-tracker in the top-left so i can see it at all times. |

Also IM-like status switch please, which controls if popups are shown to you or silently go to history when you're busy. These are interesting ideas. We talked about whether a fast dismiss button was necessary and haven't added one for now, but this would be a good thing for us to get feedback on during the opt-in phase. IMO notification popups have no place in space. In station.. maybe. I would be glad to be able to suppress them into the notification area. Love the customization !
A couple of requests.
- Can we customize the colour of the notification popup ?. Id would like to change the notification count to grey or something other than RED.
- If you have the ability to move the notification box are you able to give us the ability to move other parts of the UI ? I would love to move the main speed / damage / capacitor / module ui element to a different area than directly above or below. And to change its colour ! The 1950s blue and while colour scheme is looking really old and dated. |

Sounds like a sensible idea, if nothing else more customisation for which events spam our screenspace with notifications is good.
Sadly it's doomed to fail horribly, the only other time a feature was announced to roll out as optional for live beta testing was (iirc) the inventory system failgasm, so this will also get dumped out live in a total mess and announced as finished \o/ |

One toast per item.
1. Needs protection against spam. Or someone can buy all 100 units of your item individually :P 2. - 3. Needs to be triggerable based on fleet size. i.e. don't do notifications if theres > 60 in fleet or something 4. - 5. - 6 . -
The 1st option I do want for ages now... but I would like to set rules for it... so, only transactions of say > 100 mil / 1 bil will get a popup. |

How does the notification system impact thoes with corp settings to handle pos:es
they are notorious to spam
lets say i got 10x Poses i handle and i can't login before they start to spam now i fix it before its down to 12H fuel left but thats 10x12 = 120 spams, thats not fun if i have to interact with them.
I applaude this change BUT from a corp management perspective we have to have setttings so I DON'T have to click 120 times ...
there is alot of corp management stuff that throws up notifications to the Directors....
even better if i was able to write filters for notifications so i could auto read them and ignore them. lets say a big corp got 30 pos:es only the POS adiministrators have to worry about low fuel untill fuel < 12h left all the directors don't have to see it. even if we got a awsome pos gang poses somtimes slip under 24h As a director i don't want to see it.
grouping notifications and have settings to handle them would solve this "dark clould"

Interesting news around the notifications in any case. And it's even filled with useful functionalities (like being able to freely move it around). Can we also have a way to uncheck all boxes at once or do we need to click-fest through all the boxes if we don't want to see anything from a particular column/row/section? |

This new system, while still in the early stage, gives you a much better sense of what is going on in EVE regardless if it unpaid bills, friends getting online, insurance notification or all sort of other things. The new system is also highly configurable; for example you can precisely select those notification that you would like to as visual reminder on screen, via email or not at all. While there is still room for improvement, EVE is now simplicity itself for new players compared to how things were a few years ago. I hope this lets me disable insurance-based mail eventually. Would also be great if I could set noobships to something I have to request from a station, rather than an automatic thing.
How the notifications widget activates/unfolds relative to position on screen might be something to think about. I keep my ship HUD aligned to the top of the screen. When I mouse over my weapons modules, since they don't have any space above to pop-up, they pop-up sideways, obscuring the weapon module nextdoor... which 99% of the time is exactly the next module I want to click. But now I can't because the pop-up is in the way. Very annoying. I have to set a longer delay, which is annoying in the few instances that I want immediate information regarding a module. I would prefer that the tool tips unfold down instead of to the side, when the HUD is aligned to the top. I would guess that unfolding down would also work out better for the notifications widget when it is aligned to the very top of the screen. Maybe just let us choose how it unfolds - left, right, up, or down. |

Please keep this as optional indefinitely. I do not want to ever see this system as mandatory. Currently when things get hectic in game I can mentally filter out important stuff like who from my watch list just logged on from the less critical stuff like mail spam very quickly and easily prioritize.
The new system crams everything together in one place so regardless of what happens it all comes up in the same place. That means when **** gets crazy in game I can either ignore everything or stop paying attention to what ever craziness is going on long enough to figure out if something is important or not which is likely long enough to cost me a ship in some cases.
Different people have different visual skills. I for example can not read in my peripheral vision I need to be looking at something to read it. Also as a dyslexic it takes longer and more focus for me to read even a brief notification title. However a picture of someone logging on in my lower right hand corner with a standings icon and green name bar for log on and red for log off is something that I can keep track of.
I can easily ignore all the blinky **** on the left side of my screen until things settle down.

Just enabled it, noticed I have 512 notifications, some of which were from over 3 years ago. Maybe it shouldn't show the notifications before the time it wasn't enabled as new objects. Sure, it isn't the most important thing in the long run but it's one of those little details that make things look more finished.

First of all: I started to use this feature regularly and think its a great approach. For example its perfect for checking for friends logins. And if you have it, you never gona miss a wardec message again (if you go out mining even if you know about war thats something different tho)
I have to say: those many customization possibilitys is amazing.
Downsides: After you enable the feature you get notifications for pretty much everything that happens, which can be too much (thanks to customization thats managable tho.)
What starts to get on my nerves tho is the sound. For example when finishing skills, the loved skill-training-completed sound (most loved sound in eve i guess) is horribly overlapped by the notification tone. the notification tone itself is pretty nice, but the mix is very unpleasent.
