Super Duper Important Question: But can we put it in the center and middle top or bottom of our screen and have it play the Xbox 360's "Achievement Unlocked" notification sound? Not going to lie, I kinda want to do that. CCP RedDawn:Ugly people are just playing life on HARD mode. This looks like a nice tweak to tidying up the messaging system.
It would be cool to tie this in with the chat channel highlighting of keywords. The notification could have the message which contained the highlighted word. Clicking on the notification could open the appropriate window scrolled to the appropriate place. |

Our team is dedicated to working on the new player experience (NPE) and one of our goals is to eventually remove the existing tutorial and replace it with a much more open-ended experience
Yeah, right.
Remove what has to be one of the best tutorials in the online gaming industry. Then push the new player directly into one of the most "nooby-hostile" games in the industry even LESS prepared than they were before.
You guys truly do not want new players to change their trial accounts into subscriptions?
If you want new players to thrive in this game, remove the ease gankers have in targeting new players in high sec. Remove the ability to wardec new corp to death while the new player is trying to learn the game. Make manufacturing, industry, and non-PvP play easier to understand for the players who are trying to learn this VERY complicated game. Give Solo miners SOME way to combat being ganked. At this time, miners are simply meat-on-the-stick.
There are ways to make this game "nooby-friendly". |

Dying by attrition, most likely.
After all, EvE online is very complicated and it takes a long time to get even the slightest grasp of what's going on.
A great many new players don't want to be FORCED into joining some other players' organization (player corps) before they actually learn the game.
Most new players desire to play solo (at least while they're mining for 'start-up' credits). CCP continues to make the game more complicated for new players and continues to encourage established players to prey on new players (ganking).
So, older players are getting bored (happens to everyone eventually) and new players can't survive in the extremely hostile game unless they adhere to a strict style of play dictated by CCP.
Why would anyone want to play a game so difficult to learn, in which you are regarded as immature punks' fresh meat, and your actions are dictated to you by the company running the game? |

This makes no sense. Lots of games have implemented opt-in updates as a way of getting extended testing, and this is a great way for CCP to avoid having players complain that they liked the old system better etc. So I fail to see how CCP developing better ways of testing as well as implementing player feedback on how changes to the UI are made (e.g., slowly and with lots of options for configuration) is somehow evidence that "EVE is dying." Furthermore, this is a nice testing ground for CCP to have opt-in updates in the future where opt-in/out might be even more important. I'm sure you've given your post a lot of thought though.
Personally, I do hope the notification system is successful and that eventually as much as possible gets tied to it to reduce clutter and inconsistencies in how information is communicated. |

GG for the achievement (please don't add that CCP xD) of making a "Eve is dying" post in the middle of an awesome feature anouncement. Even though I don't understand your twisted logic.
FOR ONCE unhappy people will have a (probably temporary) option to "Turn it off", why this fact should be regarded negatively is beyond me.

Why are you spouting nonsense? Dinsdale is that you?
No one is forced to join any corp. If you want to solo play fine. The issue is, the numbers that ccp has proves you are wrong. But that's ok, keep spouting how being solo is what makes this game. its not, based on metrics.
And to your last point... I started in eve in 2004. if you think it is hard to learn now... lol *dies laughing* OMG Comet Mining idea!!! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=331766 |

Very nice feature by the looks of it and certainly much more intuitive and expandable than the current notification system (which is a complete joke). Looking forward to checking that box, good sirs.
I'm curious as to what you guys are going to do with the phasing out of the tutorial. A classic achievement system isn't something anyone would like to see, but small one-time notifications that aren't listed anywhere could be interesting. Don't know much about this feature (eager to opt-in!) but the messages I want to see:
- market transactions (someone bought my stuff). include the item icon, name and transaction cost/value - market expirations (my stuff didn't sell). include the item icon, name and station - fleet members joining/leaving - MOTD messages of all chat windows, each message an individual toast. include only the first phrase/line - let players send toast messages (like in-game tweets?). let me chose who can send me messages (by standing, corp, alliance, fleet filters, names) - new modules usable from recently-learned skills. if i learn a skill i get a toast saying "You can now use [ ITEM ] !" One toast per item. Obviously don't send 10 toast for all the meta-levels of the same time, just the meta-0 or meta-5 versions at their respective skill unlocks. It's nice to see that i can now use all these shiny tech2 items now, im awesome. - ship requirements progression. whenever i learn a skill that is needed to pilot a ship show a toast saying "3/5 skill progress towards caldari battleships" - ship mastery progression. same as above. show progression criteria on ship masteries. clicking on the toast would open that ship's tooltip in ISIS. - mission objectives complete. it's really annoying to have to have the mission window across the entire screen just to know if the mission is complete. also include this in the mission-tracker in the top-left so i can see it at all times. |

1. Needs protection against spam. Or someone can buy all 100 units of your item individually :P 2. - 3. Needs to be triggerable based on fleet size. i.e. don't do notifications if theres > 60 in fleet or something 4. - 5. - 6 . - |

For single popups right mouse button can be used, like in miranda and other IMs, for multiples - rmb on that popup widget or some hotkey.
Also IM-like status switch please, which controls if popups are shown to you or silently go to history when you're busy. These are interesting ideas. We talked about whether a fast dismiss button was necessary and haven't added one for now, but this would be a good thing for us to get feedback on during the opt-in phase. IMO notification popups have no place in space. In station.. maybe. I would be glad to be able to suppress them into the notification area. Love the customization !
A couple of requests.
- Can we customize the colour of the notification popup ?. Id would like to change the notification count to grey or something other than RED.
- If you have the ability to move the notification box are you able to give us the ability to move other parts of the UI ? I would love to move the main speed / damage / capacitor / module ui element to a different area than directly above or below. And to change its colour ! The 1950s blue and while colour scheme is looking really old and dated. |

All new or updated UI features (such as that annoying tool-tip) should be opt-in and set to "off" by default. |
