come on ccp? no you playng blizzards game?
Maybe they would fix it IF IT WERE ACTUALLY THIER FAULT. The evidence clearly indicates that it's upstream from CCP, probably a router issue on cw.net.
What do you want them to do? Storm C&W's data centre?
Actually, i think the tracerts pretty clearly show that is is CCPs problem, customers on both CW (Cable&Wireless, UK), DTAG (Deutsche Telekom, DE) and other upstream ISPs are all reporting the problem. When something like this crops up after a change is made (the load ballancers) you allways check the change first.
Now in this case the fact that the problem seems to be hapening to mostly people conenctiong through CW and DTAG does narrow down the problem quite abit. The most obvious place to start would be the load ballancer on those connections. However, it's also entirly posible that the change to the load ballancer simply revealed another problem or caused one due to some previously unkown about setting or equipment quirk.
In the end simply blaming it on CW may be nice, but the problem is most likly alot more involved.

This seriously sucks. I've lost two mining drones and a condor thanks to this problem, and it wasn't even my fault.

Getting disconnected constantly. Have pretty much given up. Sometimes I can stay on for a few minutes...but most times I'm disconnected within 60 seconds and half the time I'm trying to log on it takes 5 minutes just to do that. Checked my connection with other games and websites...everything is fine on my end.
Here's a traceroute. Took an awfully long time to complete even though the ms numbers look decent.

Here's a wierd thing....
My girlfriend who also plays isn't having the slightest problem with her connection to Eve Online. Why is that odd? Well mainly because she and I are both on the same ISP...both cable modem users with COX CABLE in our city. Granted she lives 10 miles from me across town but...still seems odd to me. I mean our IP addresses are only off by like 1 digit. Heh.

Well, I am awake, and the problem seems to presist; If it is NOT CCP's Fault - which from many sourses it seems to be correct. I say: Guys at CCP Implement Upgrade NOW. Do the Long DT today. Semd a Mass Eve-eMail or something that you pushed up the schedule. And, hopefully whoever runs things at the 'clueless' place will fix things by then.

Originally by: keepiru The fect that my route from ediburgh to london goes through iceland is quite funny though, so i gues it almost balances out.
How are you determining that? Bear in mind that just because something has an iceland-telecom address doesn't mean it is physically located in iceland. There's nothing stopping iceland telecom from putting a router in mongolia and putting their name in it's address
Besides, given that Iceland's main international backbone (FarICE) hits land in Scotland and then gets backhauled down to London to get to the main international hubs there, it's not unreasonable to think that iceland telecom may have some presence in London.
You can do anything. But you can't do everything. |

We're still looking into it (as can be seen in the Message of the Day in the login client). It's not happening to everyone, that's the main problem which is causing us a lot of headaches in addition to the fact that we have people from all over the world encountering this.
We've found out that a number of backbones in Germany or there about have been going up and down, we have some above average load routers around us, one of which we were told is being replaced in a couple of weeks - but still almost all of the players go through that so that should mean almost everyone should be encountering this (but aren't).
And we have our load balancer upgrade - which should in most cases mean absolutely everyone would be encountering this, but still no luck. We haven't even ruled out that yesterdays cluster startup was borked on a couple of nodes causing this but then everyon in the same area of space should be encountering this - but aren't!
In any case, we're trying a couple of things from our end in downtime today, let us know if it helps your situation. _____________________________ "There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?" |

I am also having problems since last night. Cant be bothered to play/login anymore. My case of crashing happens when I am doing some retriving from Eve's database. Like character loading, show info, market, wallet, etc. Takes for time for them to be searched but usually crashes me out before getting them. ----------------

typical trace.
can't really find anything that should result in the repetitive ctd's. i can play for anything between 5 and 20 minutes before i ctd.

Originally by: Oveur We're still looking into it (as can be seen in the Message of the Day in the login client).
In any case, we're trying a couple of things from our end in downtime today, let us know if it helps your situation.
...perhaps the DDoS attack to the AO servers are somewhat related to this? Not directly, but it might have cause some stress in some routers arround the world...

Edited by: BBQ on 18/10/2005 11:15:16 Here is a nice set of logs for you.
Taken today between 10:30 upto downtime. Shows massive ping spikes and packet loss at a few points. I was thrown during one of these spikes.

Screen grab is here

One thing I did notice, sometimes there was an extra hop appeared between points 13 and 14, this lost packets and then dissapeared quickly, perhaps config problems with hop 13 misrouting packets?
-EDIT- I noticed hop 13 has been taken down over downtime.

This was captured during downtime. Yet again it seemed to me to be 'iceland-telecom1.tsd.cw.net' which was misbehaving for me with frequent spikes to 200ms+ (from the normal 30-40).
I presume, since this was happening during downtime, that it rules out the gameservers?
