Hey everyone!
We appear to be having some technical issues tonight manifesting in the loss of chat channels. As is often the case with issues such as these, it appears re-logging the client will fix the issue for you. Please let us know in this thread if that doesn't solve the issue for you.

no luck either, did both relog the client and clear cache
was just getting the chatbox issue "The specified proxy or server node (863576) is dead", but then a hampster died (?) and the game just completely died for me

Other (private) channels were lost in the ether. Manually added them back ok.

When I logged on I got this:

I closed the client and then re logged in with only local / alliance / corp channels open.
Hope this helps you find the issue. |

looks like I get the same problem on every account, be it jita or deep 0.0.
no amount of restarting the clients and or pc seams to work and Im far from alone in my corp with this exakt problem. |

I also got the "node dead" error.

I had to log on/off about ten times at least till it fixed the issue for me. Chances are the issue will return when i Log back off and back on again later. |

i was getting to the end of setting up my chars after moving them to a new machine.
Started getting the problem around 00:00 evetime, now even when i log on the previous accounts i had setup chars on, they too get the same issue.
I gave up trying after the 5th account. have tried relogging a few times. tried rebooting my pc. tried using difference instances of eve to log in, same thing each time. |

Had same problem with all accounts where only Local chat was live. Cleared client cache which made no difference. Logged out for a while reading these threads. Relogged after a while and Alliance and Corp channels have returned and was able to re-open all other channels manually.
Whatever happened....seems fixed for now. |

I had this issue, I filed a stuck petition and was referred to this thread.
Restarting, clearing cache, repairing eve client and restarting some more did not help...
Waited an hour and came back was able to log in without errors.
I have Corp and Alliance chat tabs back but I had to rejoin all of my other chat channels.

Same thing here. Getting the error "The specified proxy or server node (863615) is dead", multiple times, and the only channel that shows up is local.
I can private convo people but every time I send a message I get the error again. I have restarted/re-logged around 20 times now, with not even a hint of it fixing its self. |

There seems to be a work-around that I've verified with three different accounts on three different computers.. Open your chat channel window (you WILL get an error message again, ignore it) connect to some public channel and close your client.. reopen, and your Corp, Alliance, Local and that channel will be there.. proceed by adding the rest of your missing channels again without error.
a tip, open your chat logs inside of your My Documents/Eve/Logs/Chat Logs/ folder to remember the channels you don't remember how to spell.. |

Same issue here. I do love when in a petition you say I already have the forums link...please don't send it to me.
I asked for credit for the outage as it make non-HS impossible in a corp setting. Just not sure what to trust in the code at this point.
It's clearly a code issue.

This seems to be related to a node death earlier tonight. It is affecting a relatively low number of people which I know is no comfort to those affected. We will see if we find a solution that doesn't require us to reboot TQ, but if not, this will be fixed at downtime. Again we're really sorry about the inconvenience. Like some people who play EVE, I have a job, so what you are basically saying, if you can't find a way to fix it without restarting EVE. I have lost a full 24 hours of not playing EVE. I wake up, go to work, come home at 5:30, and BAM. Full day down the crapper as I go to work at down time.
If I am not able to log in and play this entire day without the chat channels. There had better be some sort of compensation for lost time playing. You could issue a warning, that in 30 mins time, or 1 hours time, TQ will be rebooting. That should give people enough time to get to a safe location for the reboot. It's not like I am saying, reboot within the next 1 min and screw everyone over. |

What are you smoking down there in ER? Say I'm in the middle of a slugging match, suddenly message comes out that TQ is being cycled in 15 minutes. I'd be royally SCREWED, along with the entire rest of my fleet (and the enemies, for that matter = P).
The server should never be cycled unless the vast majority of players are affected. You don't punish many to help a few. |

I haven't figured out a way to get into Corp and Alliance channel yet. But you can get into all the other channel you had open by re-typing them in the search window and hitting join. |

This works to enter chat, but If I type something, no one else in chat can see it. I have rebooted x number of times...yadda yadda nothing works.
I also tried joining Public Channels and rebooting and it still failed.
Guess I play tomorrow cause I will not be flying in a war without corp or alliance or fleet channels.

Actualy the Public Channel thing works. Here is how it is done, cause the previous instructions don't explain it well.
Open the Chat Channel. TYPE in a channel name you know exists. Like your Corps Public channel etc. Click Join. It puts you in the channel, but you can't Type.....you get the same errror Close the CLient. Open the Client again, and you will have Corp, Alliance and the public you joined. You will need to manually add your other 20 intel channels.
This works. I did it on two accounts.

Open Chat Channels window, and join the E-UNI channel - join channel successfully - but no one sees my text. With the new Invalid Packet... window open use alt-shift-q to quit. Open client again, problem persists.

I can join my Corps pub channel (Gradient) but get the same error message when ever attempting to send something. It appears in the chat window but I have received no replies and see no other chat in that channel.
I cannot join "Corp". It says it already exists.

If it helps did not have the problem when initially logging on 5 hours ago. All 3 accounts were working. I logged off one alt and tried to bring up another about 45 mins ago and now I am getting that error on all 3 accounts no matter what I do. I know clearing cache and restarting apparently fixed some but nothing is cleaing mine right now. |

I logged in just fine after the patch, but I relogged once and it all went bosoms-up. Relogging a few more times did nothing. Eventually EVE started crashing rapidly, and then my computer crashed, and now everything is fine. I am baffled but happy not to have to click through fifteen windows every time I log in or try to join a chat channel. |

Same problem here. I have a Mac and tried relogging, clearing the cache then logging in an alt then logging back in my main and still no go on alliance or corp chat. I can start a private convo, but cannot chat in that convo. I cannot accept a private convo either.
Local and fleet chats work as do public chat channels. |

Who ever is having this problem, don't count that CCP will fix it before downtime , if they wanted to fix it they would have restarted TQ already. If it was a small bug that would benefit all of us the server would already been restarted but because only a couple (100, 1000, 5000 who knows)are affected it doesn't matter for them.
I always recommend people to play eve and dust but i see no reason to do that anymore with so crappy support. I would be ashamed as a tech support if i could fix a problem but didn't do it.
Since i'm not expecting it will be fixed before DT i'm going to log off. |

I just worked through this with a corp mate who I could chat with in local.
She did the cache clear and repair tool thing once and it didn't work but then went away and the second time she did it she was back into all the proper channels.
This has also worked for some pilots I have been suggesting it to in the local and militia channels when I have noticed folks asking about this problem.

Had the same problem as everyone else here.
Rebooted the client 5 times and that solved the problem for me. I did have to add various other channels besides corp and alliance.
Guys I know this is annoying but then pc gaming has always been a pain in the butt. Cut ccp a bit of slack. If not the can I haz your stuff?

Keeps crashing after getting that error, and when I start it back up, the server status is unknown, and I can't connect for 5-10 minutes. Then I can connect for a few minutes, and the same thing will happen again. |

Okay, clearing cashe seemed to work for me as well. I did two things in IE9:
tools > internet options > under browsing history, opened settings, UNCHECKED top box, checked two boxes below only, clicked ok.
tools > F12 developer tools > at top of devtools, cache > clear browser cache...
Maybe this will help a few more people.

Did not have the error happen to me when I logged two pilots on in space earlier this evening. Call their accounts A and B. These pilots logged on in a nullsec region around 0400 EVE and logged off sometime around 0530 EVE in a different nullsec region. Account A logged off in space and Account B logged off in a station.
Somewhat later, around 0700 EVE, I logged a different pilot on in station on Account A and had the error happen. This pilot logged on in a different nullsec region from the first two.
I logged a different pilot on in space on Account B and the error happened to that pilot. This pilot logged on in the same region as the pilot who experienced the error.
I logged the original pilot (who did not have the error initially) from Account B on in station and the error happened to that pilot.
I logged a pilot on in station on a third account, Account C, and the error happened to that pilot as well.
I cleared the EVE cache and logged the Account A pilot who first had the error on in station; the error happened again.
I logged the Account C pilot on in station and the error happened to that pilot. I entered space on that pilot and logged off in a POS.
I cleared the EVE cache, quit the client on restart, relaunched the client, and logged the Account C pilot back in. The error persisted.
I logged the original pilot (who did not have the error originally) from Account A on and this pilot then experienced the error.
Finally, I cleared the EVE cache and logged a third pilot on from Account A in a highsec station. This pilot experienced the error.
As of now I have not found a way to resolve the error.
Hope some of this information helps and that the problem is cleared up by downtime.
(I'm still experiencing the Crucible local standings bug, btw. :/) |

someone in local said to me he updated windows 7...so i checked and i had a few security patches
updated windows 7
restarted the computer
logged into eve with chat fixed
dunno if the security fixes or just the restart fixed it but eve seems to be working fine again |

Please post on the first page that you use "Player Channels" to find your lost channel windows. The Eve client saves channels you been in so you don't have to guess the names.

I'm still getting "Socket was closed" disconnects while playing. It started at the same time as the chat issues, but it seems I'm the only one that has this. I can't play the game at all anymore, because I disconnect after a few minutes and it shows the server is down for long periods of time afterward.

our corp had a different issue with the same error message, fleets got stuck could not leave or join fleets had to relog and some of our members got disconnected and could not log or alike with socket errors, one lost a faction battleship. |

This has been replicated inadvertently by me and my flat mate when our Router decided to go down. Now we cant reopen any chat channels. The only chat channels that seem to work is fleet and local channel. I have rebooted machine, Run the repair tool for the client!, Cleared all the cache and settings and still no joy! Mal: "If anyone gets nosy, just...you know... shoot 'em. "

If your going to break a chat channel why cant it be local? All automated intel should be removed from the game including jumps/kills/cynos for all systems/regions.Eve should report nothing like this to the client/3rd party software.Intel should not be force fed to players. Player skill and iniative should be the sources of intel. |

Don't bother doing anything to fix the problem, random bug is random... All this messing with things to fix it is a placebo, the only people who can actually fix it for everyone is CCP. |

I have the same server node message is dead above.
1. Cleared Cache. 2. Deleted all Client Updates out of the eve program directory (several GB worth FYI). 3. Ran Repair Tool
Repair tool DELETED a folder (didn't catch the name), and then said that the client had been repaired.
So I logged back into game and the Chat Channels were still missing.
I opened up Chat Button on the Neocom to re-join the channels, and all the missing channels have their 'JOIN' buttons missing!

After waiting several minutes, and attempting to log back in, the 'Join' Buttons were back in the Neocom window and clickable. I was then able to re-join my chat windows. Wierd Bug! :-(

I had to reboot my pc to get my corp and alliance chat back. I rejoined my player channels and logged off and the error came back. I had to once again reboot my PC and left the player channels alone. So far I haven't had the issue again. |

This seems to be related to a node death earlier tonight. It is affecting a relatively low number of people which I know is no comfort to those affected. We will see if we find a solution that doesn't require us to reboot TQ, but if not, this will be fixed at downtime. Again we're really sorry about the inconvenience.
reroute and reboot... you worry to much about problems after the fact.. i never heard a person say a reboot can hurt more.... :) dude just reboot the dam thing already make your life easier... |

Cleared Cache & relogged, two accounts, two different install directories. Same results, still getting the message three to five times when logging in.
Tried on a second computer I have with same results. Win 7 machine and Win Vista machine

A workaround that worked for me:
I joined the someBlink channel from the ingame browser. This worked to get me at least 1 channel. I was still not able to join any other channels manually. I then quit the client and rebooted the client, upon relogging I am now in corp/alliance and able to join channels again. |

Leaped into Eve to find the same thing happening. Re-logged and still nothing, then spent the last 30 minutes reading complaints (all very similiar somehow), re-logged just now, and turns out it works again.
Excellent stuff, I was getting worried I'd have nothing to not talk to since everyone is offline anyway... |

Was getting the error popup regardless of restarting and clearing cache last night. (2300 Eve time)
This morning it was working again, though I had the joy of finding all my player-run channels again and putting them where they belong. (0800 Eve time)
I find that without a good mob to provide one for them, most people would have no mentality at all. |
