Edited by: Cybele Lanier on 10/01/2009 17:55:06 Opening the market when it immediately jumps to "search entire region". Having it always default to "search for item" would work much better--if you do want to search region, it's just one click away.
Also, the entire list of sell orders updating after you buy something--even though you'll hardly ever be bothered about the state of other orders once you've got the stuff you want. This can be avoided by shutting the market screen after the buy confirmation screen shows up, but it would be nice to make the update optional, so I don't need to reopen the market ten times while shopping. --------------- ""Minimum collateral damage" and "Entire star system" do not belong in the same sentence." |

changing buy orders in jita when not in jita - you press number it hungs a bit pres another number it hungs again and again.
ui is crap - fps without it is 2x bigger
breket switching on and off
looking in big icefield drops fps a lot, ice model when its with size of 1 pixel is renedered at full ?
moving things on ui hangs a bit client (remeber that broken patch that hunged for 30sec on sisi)

Changing overview tabs/brackets with a lot of people on grid.
Looking at the clouds in some missions (epic super crazy 1-frame-per-minute lag).
Smoke from burning ships.
Looking at the ice in ice fields. Why not just have 2-3 ice roids per belt since they never run out?

when my ship is nearly destroyed and has the fire \ smoke effect on it, if i zoom in to have a look, the fps drops to about 15 - 20 everytime, this is usually most noticable if the sips is stationary and not dragging the smoke etc behind it. gfx card is a ati4850 which usually runs the client fine @ 60fps |

These are all great answers. If possible, it would be handy to get a measurement of the relative performance to 'normal' gameplay; EnigmaZ above nailed it, since it allows me to sort them by level of impact.
Please keep them coming

Not a record on FPS drops for this, but I could get some when my internet is more stable...
Anyways, I find the gas clouds in some missions cause ridiculous amounts of client strain when running. Not the toxic cloud missions, just the random clouds (of dust I guess) that float about in missions as part of the scenery, a few of these together and holy **** does it lag. An option to turn these off would be awesome.
Another would be when you are using "look at" on a target and it pops, sometimes the camera snaps to the very centre of your ship, and when running 2x Armor reps/hull reps, the frame-rate drops like a ****-ton also. |

Edited by: Phyrexy on 11/01/2009 10:41:12 on the classic client: When I have 2 or more clients open, undock them both and then try to lock something (say, an npc) with the second client I opened, both clients lock up (0 fps) until the locking cycle finishes. When the locking cycle finishes clients go back to normal perfomance. Normally I can run up to 4 clients (2 in ffa on SISI and two docked on tq) at max fps. (capped at 60 because of vsync)
Doesn't always happen though, so I'm not sure how to reproduce it. system specs: e8400, 4gb ram, 2x hd4870(crossfire), X38 chipset mobo and vista ultimate 64b.

hey hey
Everyday activities that cause client lockups.
1) Opening the log Whenever you want to view the recent activity etc thats logged you click the icon and the whole universe freezes. this is NOT dependent on wether you actually have information in the log or not
1) Gate jumping into Nakugard :/ Looks pretty, causes lag. as one of the previous posters mentioned that cloud as you jump in/warp to the gate has a high load time and you almost instantly lag when you arrive.
3) Fighters on the grid/carriers even from a few jumps out of where carriers have fighters assigned you can feel the lag. I have been in cap fights where you can tell instantly when the fighters have been deployed. its like an explosion of lag.
4) POS warping Warping to almost every pos will cause a delay. even when you arrive on the pos it takes a few seconds to load up. today we had X number of caps warp to a pos and some yust comnpleley desynched and tbh there wasnt more than a handfull of us.
5) Carrier/Dread Its weird but i feel that a carrier causes much more lag than a dread. dunno why but whenever the field has carriers its very very laggs and you get alot of desynch with a field more dread orientated it certainly lags alot less and almost little to no desynch.
Notes : classic client bracketless Single client only Raedon X1650/Win XP SP2/1GB Ram/Pentium 4 (yes its a little old)

Complexes/Missions with lots of structures this is a particular pain in the case of i think it independance 0.0 drone exploration complex where there are several (5-10) clusers of 10 or so dtandard drone buildings (the circular one with the red light) does not matter what you do with settings they tend to cause isses anyway and generally excessive numbers of small structures put together to make one larger one cause a fair bit of lag while single large structures dont.

For me the main one is when warping to a POS it allways takes a while for it to load. Also the other main one is when travling with big fleets 200+ over say 10-15 jumps near the end it seems to take about 2-3mins for the system to load. |

This probably not noticable on fast machines, but when you click (or ctrl+click to target) on an item in overview, there is a considerable amount of delay to generate the thumbnail picture in the Selected Item window and in "Targeted" item. |

Zooming into a ship thats in structure and on fire, will drop frame rate by a lot.
I mean zoom into, not just look at. Try it, and you'll see. I confirmed this with corp mates. When my rifter was on fire, and asked them if looking at it dropped they're frame rate my corp mates in fleet said yes it does drop frame rate. *********** Dasfry, Director Demio's Corporation

My client stutters horribly when
1. I open up the in game browser (to the point that I will copy links and open then in firefox instead of using IGB).
2. Joining a fleet with the starmap open then closing the map causes the client to hang for several seconds.

This - something in the flame/smoke generation is extremely inefficient. If you happen to get into structure, the client turns into a slide show. If you don't have access to somewhere to repair straight away it is extremely annoying. |

with large fleet battles, there are only two issues:
1) Sorting overview list in fleet battles is extremely painful. Everytime someone waprs overview freeze for sec or so, and in largher fleet battles people are warping in and out constantly. 2) General slowdown after lot of additional items have been generated on the battlefield, even if you have them hidden in your settings (wrecks, biomass, abandoned drones). Once additional items are removed (god bless loot*****s and doomsdays), fps is back to normal.
All other things related to fleet battles are perfectly normal - it's obvious you will have loaing lag when you warp into a POS with 700 people on it, you stupid goons.

Bump to get this on the first page again.
We would also like people to confirm stuff, so if something you encounter got already mentioned just reply something like: "had the issue ... mentioned by ... on page ... too, ...." some additional information would be nice but if everything is already mentioned a one liner is still better than nothing .
Keep it up and coming I can already tell you that the information you post here are very useful and thx for the time you spend helping us to make EVE a even better Game. __________________________ CCP Sputnik CCP Engineering Services Software Engineer

Ab. So. Lutely.
Just have something go in structure, and zoom in on it, peferrably with hdr on (not needed for fps drop, though. It just enhances it). Framerate will go from 120 to 1.
In fact, all Nebulae combined with hdr are horrible, fps wise. |

Standard FPS in station with static background: 12 fps One window and it goes down to 8.
Doesn't really matter if I go outside of the station. The same thing applies. I lose around 3-4 fps per window I open.
Please, I want to chat with more fps ;)

watch some of the action going on in curse. 700+ people in cap fight made it damn near unplayable this last weekend, even several jumps out it seemed the lag was felt before getting into the system when using normal gates in a 20-30 man fleet. |

During the transition (jumping) to another solarsystem, the UI becomes unresponsive for a couple of seconds. Also, during this time the new space-background, objects in space and the brackets are all updated individually. The entire process feels extremely sluggish and very much like a temporary implementation.
Not sure if this matches the issues you're looking for but I could imagine that this is the kind of thing that long term players (and developers) don't even notice anymore while a new player just thinks "ew... that's broken".

Jumpbridging Titans makes my computer do crazy things, 15 minute lag and GUI froze so i could not look around when one poped bridge next to me. I could warp around and overview worked, but had to dock to fix the view so i could pan or zoom at all. Then again there have been 3-4 seperate fleets in the Curse area with 100-500 members.. not sure but it seems when a few seperate fleets this size get within several jumps of each other all using titans and jump bridges the node wants to puke us all up like some bad moonshine.
several jumps out from the big fight, me and small 5 man fleet all hit about 2 minute+ of lag mid warp with only 20 in local. (last spike i counted at the fight was something like 710 in local) 30 sec or so mod lag

Originally by: Marlenus Since QR, every time someone in my address book logs in or out, I get about two seconds of client freeze while the icon displays in red or green at the corner of my screen.
It's worse by a couple of seconds when *adding* someone to my address book.
I have a couple dozen peeps in the buddy list, nothing huge. And this did not used to be a problem.
This! And more specifically, this started up before QR for me. Additionally, when I save a bookmark (place) in space or edit a bookmark entry, the same pause / delay / lag occurs.
I have maybe 50 people in my address book and at certain times, when those addy book entries log off and on, there will be a 4 - 6 second period where the client freezes up. That is hugely detrimental when it comes to actually flying around in-space.
The number of bookmarks that I have seems large and is [currently] an unknown number to me.
I have rebuilt my machine and the problem still exists. No local assets (folders, data, etc.) from the old installation were carried over to the new.
Prior to the machine rebuild, 2GB of RAM was installed and that was never exceeded (Vista 32-Bit). Currently 6GB of RAM is installed (Vista 64-Bit). A relatively modern dual-core, 64-bit native CPU is running the show. Premium graphics are running on a 79xx nVidia gpu, full-screen.
I have other mates in-game that experience this exact same behavior and who have also done a clean client re-install with no change in the problem.

How to lock up client quickly:
Start two premium accounts on the same computer (XP). Do courier missions with both, using warp to 0, and alt tabbing between the two to jump and start the next warp to 0. Sometimes if you are quick you can get both clients doing a jump at the same time! Crash! Even if you are not that quick, you can still only do 6 to 10 jumps on both clients, then CRASH! |

Have A LOT of channels open; on a session change with file logging on = A LOT of single files being closed and re-opened. Definitely good for HDD thrashing. My chat logs directory has way too many files (in the tens of thousands since my last OS reinstall), and not all of them even have content in them. |

Edited by: Keitaro Baka on 14/01/2009 14:33:50 Ok then I have to confirm many of these.
- Messing with drones in a multi agent/variable/entity environment: putting drones into a group, launching drones that haven't been launched before, dropping fighters at a pos fight. It seems to lag others there too (carriers dropping their loads is a common one), go from fps 10 to 2 minutes module lag and god forbid you have brackets and enemy drones on overview.
- Jumping a fleet into a fleet with bubbles. Haven't tried this recently but was and probably is horrible. Even with just 100 on each side. Should be a bit better now, but still..
- Multiple cyno jump activations, be it through titan jumpgate, cyno out or even pos cyno modules.
- Multiple accounts with sound during fights.
- Mass decloak is a short one but can really lag up your rig.
- Flames, ship exploding, the times I had to wait for my already dead ship to actually explode, even after I got the clone activation mail..
- Checking kill/loss on character sheet/doing anything with the char sheet while in fleets, doing stuff with fleet set up while in fight etc. Pain.
edit: e6600 C2D @ 3GHz 4 GB ram 8800GTS 640Mb dedicated HDD multi account, different cpu, but in fights 1 eve.exe at dual cpu. |
