Spoiler alert!
bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah???!
This is like the first season all over again, except with Daniel Jackson. Add a new enemy that happens to be a cross between Darth Vader and the Borg. "Unforeseen consequences."
And those bastards upstairs still decided to cancel the show with a mid-season gem like this episode. The first few and newest episodes of this season have been great, and they still bombed it.

You panicked me there for a second, I thought you meant it had been cancelled at this point, i.e. no resolution of cliffhanger.
5 seasons is pretty good for a spinoff (7 being the 'standard') when you consider that its parent series was already cancelled basically for reasons of *******ry.
I'm grateful for every episode we have had since the finale of SG-1, and where the story is at the moment, they can wrap the whole thing up to a satisfying conclusion quite easily.
Sci-Fi are still ****ers though, and good shows being held hostage by American networks is still a shitty situation. -

Yup. Still don't know why sci-fi has wrestling. Unless it's only booking shows by half of it's name at a time, science (Eureka can't hold a candle to Stargate or BSG), and fiction/fantasy (wrestling). Awful isn't it?
It will be a very sad year for television next year, because after BSG finishes there will be no more space-set Sci-fi out there.

But Universe has been approved, and Atlantis will get a film too, so there is still a future for the franchise. -

it wasn't sci fi it was MGM that canceled it as they hold the right and produce it.... in their eyes it costs to much to produce now and won't renew for more seasons.

one line from an SG1 rerun i watched the other day:
ôScience fiction is an existential metaphor. It allows us to tell stories about the human condition. Isaac Asimov once said, æindividual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today. But the core of science fiction, its essence, has become crucial to our salvation, if we are to be saved at all.Æö
that says it all really. scifi is more than just fun, its an essential part of who we are as a subculture (basically anyone reading this forum).
the fact those shit eaters made the move to monopolize the shows out there, then turn around and screw over the fans that put them where they are is just sick.
seriously, that channel ****es me off so bad, i'd like to shove every minute of ghosthunters and ecw footage in existence up all of their collective asses. Its not been canceled its been moved to direct to dvd movies.
In any case honestly the writers messed around for too long, they finally get their act togeather this season and started to give the show direction but then the producers canned it before they could give it a chance. Who knows, they might pull out of the nose dive at the last minute.
Edit: Blah.... the writers are doing it again... recycling races.

that may be regarding stargate, but the overall shift of the entire sci-fi channel AWAY from things that are actually sci-fi is what i was hinting at
realizing you can crap out the cheapest show possible with no regard to your viewers/fans expectations really puts the damper on things ------------------------------ everybody be cool this is a threadjack! just lay face down on the ground and no one will get hurt! |

Honestly its this sort of thing that makes me mad about atlantis.
Things they have recycled blatantly from SG-1 to Atlantis:
Replicators Evil alien god worship Addictive immortality and now "them"
Next on the agenda is for the team to find a group of Wraith that only feed on willing humans.... hmm, doesnt THAT sound familiar? -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

At least we got some nice battles with the replicators. But I can't shake the feeling they'll show up AGAIN (even after they showed up again).
But yes, it was very unexpected, and also explains why Daniel is in the arc. Considering how much exposure Atlantis has had to "them," most of them would have to ask who "they" were

Yeah and you know you would expect shepard to say something like "okay lets send a puddle jumper to that space gate and blow up their bodies just to be sure."
I know its a TV show, but damn, both SG-1 and Atlantis R&D department is lagging in the common sence ideas. I mean how many times have they had to deal with a group of enemys guarding the gate preventing them from going home? You would think in the combined 15+ years both shows have been running a sientist somewhere in that universe would have gone "hey, you know what would be really helpful to our teams? A remote DHD! Yeah something that allows them to dial back home without having to be out in the open dodging fire from not quite good enough marksmen and there by not losing men in the last moments of an opt! Brilliant!"
Again, I know its a show but some of the stuff they do or dont do just makes me go wtf.

Well I can counter that by saying in SG1 the DHD cant be remote because we dont know enough about the DHD itself, and in SGA they do have puddle jumpers, they dont have any excuse.

Id argue that a large trinium (god im an SG geek) device could be mounted over the standard DHD upon a team coming threw a gate to a hostile planet that would upon recieving the proper radio signals would impact the buttons itself, confusing the guards as to if the gate was incoming or outgoing as well as allowing the team members to dial the gate at a distance for various reasons (reporting in, decoy, dialing in while under fire, etc.) Granted not as inconspeculous as altering the DHD but it would get the job done in a hostile enviroment. |

WGAnubis, while the whole "trinium device" makes sense if that were a real situation, it wouldn't work well applied to the show. Take for example:
No remote dialing device: *SG team heads back to the gate and finds it heavily guarded* SG: Well, that's going to be a bit of a problem. Audience: Oh, those SG guys are screwed now. *SG team leader devises a crazy plan just far-fetched enough to work* *audience watches in anticipation* *SG team puts the plan to work, and in the middle of the crossfire one of the team members gets to the DHD and starts dialing* *audience is on the edge of the seat, wondering if anyone is going to get shot/die* *team successfully retreats through gate* *team leader drops a witty comment* *audience chuckles*
Remote dialing device: *SG team heads back to the gate and finds it heavily guarded* SG: Activate the remote dialing device, let's make a run for it. *SG team runs back to the gate and goes through* *audience raises an eyebrow*

I agree that it would be a bad concept in the show but the thing is that the "enemy guarding the gate" cliche is used way too often in both shows. Oh well.
