I can't believe they opted to cancel. Sci-Fi produces some of the worst crap out there, I thought they would hold on to gems like SGA (and SG-1 of course). Does anyone actually watch wrestling, ghosthunters or the other crap they put up? And none of it has any place on Sci-Fi. The only reason I watch that channel is for BSG, SGA and Doctor Who. The first 2 are at an end, and thank god they dont have production rights on the third or they would have canned it. They didn't even opt for Torchwood because the "American" audience is not ready for a lead character who is openly bisexual.
There is that new series they are starting, "Sanctuary". I did not find the previews impressive but I will give it a chance and watch the first episode because of Amanda Tapping.

Indeed, ive noticed though that scifi is turning into a channel that uses more"down to earth"scifi now instead of the uber spaceship blasting.
Personally im fine with a earth based scifi but the scifi channel NEEDS somekind of space based scifi.... I mean thats exactly what the scifi channel was based off of.
But I do understand the reasoning behind earth based scifis, less is spent on cgi and thus you make more money, its a sad day when even the scifi channel doesnt have any more new space based scifis but sadly most companies couldnt care less about their fanbase and care only about ratings and saving money.

Maybe if they stopped making all those B movies and just ran solid sci-fi. Or anything that doesn't suck.

Honestly it seems like several networks have been going the way of lowest common demoninator lately. SciFi, Adult Swim, etc, all replacing their few decent shows with cheap shows meant for cheap laughs. Oh well, to the torrent sites! |

That's right in theory and wrong in reality. Sci-fi cancelled their contract to air Stargate SG-1 on the Sci-Fi channel. MGM could have continued the series on a local or less desirable channel but it was obvious something would be lost. Who would pay as much for a series that just got cancelled? No local channel, and how many national channels could get them the right demographic for a serious high-budget sci-fi space thriller?
MGM "could" have continued Stargate without Sci-fi in theory but at the very least something important would have died with sci-fiĘs contract. Honestly Killing the series and tying up the loose ends with a couple movies was about the best thing they could have done given the circumstances.
Would you rather MGM let Stargate jump the shark entirely? _______________

I agree that SG-1 had run its course and the way that was handled was fine. But SGA is far from over in my opinion and still has plenty to offer. It is no where near jumping the shark. Even so, what makes this most difficult is that SG-1, and now SGA and BSG are at an end, with no real replacements. They continue to produce and promote rubbish like ghost-hunters and b-movies that are horrible in every regard (bad storyline, bad acting, bad special effects. If Sci Fi got the rights to Firefly from Fox (like they did with SG-1) and decided to resurrect the series, that would be more entertaining than ghost-hunters, eureka and their saturday night b-movies put together. |

iirc Sci-Fi still hold the air rights to the Stargate franchise, ie no other tv station in the world can air it that didn't buy syndication rights off them. Hence the movies. __________________

This. MGM would have carried on the TV series, but Sci-Fi wouldn't let go of the rights, even after cancelling it. They aren't unusual in this, it's how American networks ensure the death of decent TV. -

Sucks tbh, I cant believe people would actually be interested in reality tv shows.

Maybe that's why I haven't enjoyed movies in a long time.
I've been spoiled by TV series that are SUPPOSED to make you think, because most of the time they have plots that make sense, and don't revolve around PEW PEW EXPLOSION PEW.

Last movie I saw in theater was Jumper.
I think I've lost faith in the movie industry since then.
