I'm playing around with Eve fit- how accurate is it?
What does the defence figure mean. is it damage per second repelled/repaired or some other variable that obviously changes when you change something. How does this figure translate into something real life & meaninful. What is a good figure for this-I know it probably depends for what but I cant find a table of what it should be for instance for missions i.e. level 1 should be...level 2 should be etc.
Sorry for all the questions-its a consequence of being new to Eve.

It is how much raw dps you can tank assuming an equal split between all four damage types. If you want to see your tank agianst a specific ammo type, you can right click and edit the ratio of incomming damage types.

sheesh, man
edit; also the answer above me is very lacking and has in fact next to nothing to do with reinforced and sustained defense. but... you both have FAQ.txt in your EFT folders.

The defense number is how much damage per second you can tank based on the damage type specified (default is rainbow damage, so 25% of each type).
If you have two numbers for the defense thing, one is the sustained damage per second (ie you can keep this up forever) while the second is the number with all your repair modules active (shield booster, repairers, etc) but you can't perma sustain it because of cap.
So for a Raven, for example, it might say 600/1100. Meaning you can sustain the 600 forever (boosting only as cap allows), but tanking 1100 damage per second would take leaving the booster on the entire time, and you'd run dry on cap.

You could have answered the question in the time it has taken you to write this post. Why is it that when somebody asks a question somebody has to turn the forum into an unpleasent spat-I just can't stand know-it-alls who could not be bothered to give the time of day.

Maybe because it's smarter to teach a man how to fish, rather than to give him the fish. This way, next time you have a question, you can research it immediately rather than asking another question.
I don't know, maybe you should be thankful for people helping you learn how to research?

also i wasnt unfriendly, and pointing to the readme was INDEED faster than explaining sustained defense in detail.

If I stopped on a street corner, leaned out of my car, asked for directions and heard, "Well, if you go down to the corner store, you can buy a map," ... I'd probably flip out.

You must live in New York. In Canada, we hop in your back seat and give you turn-by-turn directions to the location you're going to.
Of course, when people ask us questions, they usually say stuff like, "Hey, do you know my buddy, Dan, from Vancouver?" I think, "Oh, of course! I know Dan. He died last week. Horrible, really."

I'd say asking an EFT question on a forum populated by a great many EFT-O players is pretty much fishing. With Dynamite.
