Buttons displayed above: 1. Attack / Operate 2. Launch / Scoop 3. Return and orbit 4. Note the small double arrows to hide the buttons.
This is what we droners need. A useful interface to be able to use our drones properly in combat. Select your drones below the overview panel and then use the interface to direct your drones in combat. Also have quick-keys tied to the buttons to be able to use keyboard as well. 2 hands are better than one. Unfair that turret and missile users get that upper hand over the drone users. Note that these buttons exists already, we only need a better interface to access these commands.
Maybe add some more buttons: 1. Guard me. (To defend you or your target, aggressor will get attacked.) 2. Orbit (Orbit any target you assign the drones to) 3. Drone behaviour
Guard setting. To have the drones orbit you till something aggresses you. Or the drones.
We need different drone behaviour settings. ItÆs annoying to have them go attack whatever they want. Aggressive or passive, only those 2 settings. Currently they attack anything randomly. It would be nice to be able to set them to return to orbit after killing there assigned target. Also if they are set on aggressive it would be nice if they attacked as a group of drones and not individually. Currently they spread out thus not being able to do enough damage to kill anything.
IÆm not asking for much here. Especially the control interface, itÆs absolutely needed. In PvP you donÆt have time to right click and assign stuff. You need easy command keys. Split second commands make the difference.

Nice to see all the good responses. I just hope others visit the thread and share there opinions. Mabey a dev or two.

The selection part under the overview can be tweaked. Simply add a feature were you can select all the drones in a group simultaneously or select them individually. The button positions can also be changed to directly above the turrets. As the warp text is displayed were they are position on that picture. All that is details thatÆs left for the devs to figure out. As long as the interface is added. We can worry about the details on sisi.

But fear not, i have better one.
Your idea is well thought out, but a bit too complicated. If CCP ever were to add an interface it would probably be very simple. Not much programming put into the idea. I had other ideas but I boiled it down to its most simple form because I know if itÆs as complicated as you describe it in your thread CCP wonÆt bother implementing it. Simple is better.
Over said on eve-tv that, CCP donÆt have any plans about the drone interfacing causing problems under the overview tab. After that itÆs even more important to keep it simple, if we want to spark some interest to the devs.

I forgot to describe this, so here it goes. Selection method can be simple. Place a small box in front of each drone and drone group. Click the box and you have selected the drone.
1. Open overview drone panel. Select the drones by left clicking them. Then hit the launch button.
2. Your drones are already selected. Hit the return to drone bay button. Down select your med drones. Select your armour rep drones and then launch.

I understand what youÆre saying. But your idea implements that CCP needs to make a totally new panel for drones. And itÆs placed directly below the overview panel. Witch makes no difference when talking in perspective of reducing overview space. This way you force people to reduce overview space because otherwise it would be impossible to control the drones individually. And itÆs very important to micro manage drones, ôthe scoop and launch techniqueö. Two major flaws, new panel that requires lots of programming. CCP have made it obvious that drones are on the bottom of there priority list. Second, the overview problem still wonÆt get fixed.
Moving the panel above the turret slots would help with the overview problem. But still itÆs more programming than 3 simple buttons and few boxes.
After reading your thread over and over IÆm starting to fully understand your idea. I can see many advantages and some flaws. In the end I think we have nearly the same idea. Difference is, your idea helps to remove drones from overview panel completely but are much more complicated. Mine is simpler but keeps the drones in overview. I will convo you in game and we can go through it and maybe come up with an even better solution.

Edited by: Xcom on 25/01/2007 07:49:25 IÆm posting an addition to my idea after all this time.
There is a FPS window that appears when you push the Ctrl + F button in eve. A similar window for drones would be appreciated.
1. This window is very easy to move and place anywhere on the screen without it cluttering up with other windows. 2. It uses very little processing power and causes minimum lag when opened. 3. ItÆs smaller than normal windows and donÆt take up extra space (referring to the edges of normal windows).
Some people talk of drones taking up to much space in overview. This would help solve the problem. And for the people that want to keep the drones in overview, well their can be a simple option in option panel to choose between the two. The current setting for drones in overview causes lag and eats up space that is vitally important for other information like gang and ships in space.
Linkage to example for clarification.
And if this window canÆt be used because of programming issues or other problems. A normal window like any other window (chat or cargo window) would be appreciated instead of the overview option.

But fear not, i have better one.
1. There is no good way of displaying the drone health bars. ItÆs vitally important to see your drones health bar. If your drones start to take dmg you have to see this and start to scoop them.
2. The grouping of this new UI seams like a project. It gives me a haddock to think of how to group the drones. Worse, what if you have to group them in mid combat? If I lose a drone from that group. In mid combat I have to select drag drop or change this grouping or use a workaround that you suggested. Witch is unnecessary compared to the current system.
The current overview system is very useful in that manner. The only problem with it is that itÆs laggy and itÆs taking up space in overview that can be used for other things. This can easily be resolved by having it removed from overview and placed in a new window by itself.
3. Witch one do you think is easier to program? The entire new redesign of the UI or improvements on the old one. Simpler is always better.

Hmm a hole revamp on the drone UI and no drone interface?
If only they had a reason for it. I wish someone at CCP headquarters would come out and say it. They won't ever fix the drone issues, and they like to see us suffer.

Can we please get the reason for why the Drone UI was not fixed in this patch?
Any answer would be appreciated. Any answer. Please give us Droners a response. It feels like we have been left out in the cold.
Please

Our prayers have been answered. We have a new drone UI coming and new AI for the drones to. I hope itÆs a good UI design.
