Because thats they way I like to play. There is no right or wrong way to play an MMO. Just ways the succeed and ways that fail.
Also I am not saying not to make the changes, just pointing out that I hope all those things are also thought about while they are planning/implementing the changes.

Just a question, will we get battlecruisers in 0.4 to 0.1 sec space? i think we need some slightly harder rats in low security space, perhaps some cruiser commanders as well rather than just battleship ones? i personally would like some modified cruiser/frig items :) uh.

Each pirate faction will have several assault frigs and cruisers. Does that mean they'll have different resistances patterns? Like Serpentis HAC1 with normal assault-like kinetic and thermal resistances, and serpentis HAC2 with assault-like EM and thermal resists?

Edited by: CamelKnight on 09/09/2005 18:31:41 I for one am not too happy with these changes. Sure I like the addition of new ships and yeah, I like the fact that they will have the same stuff we have. But I personally am not that big of a groupplayer and am too scared to pve (there. I've said it.). I'm in a corp and alliance but I like to belt hunt solo, sometimes just to pass time. I *used* to do lvl 4 missions solo, but with complexes and the additions made in cold war, soloing lvl 4's has become quite though and the rewards are only mediocre nowadays. lvl 3's just don't pay enough to get me interested and now it seems that belthunting isn't gonna be very attractive to solo either. If you want some danger and excitement as a solohunter, you go to 0.0. butB with these changes, 0.0 is going to be too dangerous, and 0.5 (or anything else..) isn't going to be interesting enough. I have serious doubts about this patch.

If you have agro-management for NPCs, you can make them *a lot* stronger, especially in the high end systems. That way support and repair ships will make much more sense, for instance the logistic cruisers.
Let damage dealing, jamming, disrupting and also healing create agro-points. Introduce passive modules that either reduce or increase the agro-points you generate and create active modules that bind a NPC to attack a player's ship for some time, for instance a high slot electronic warfare module that disrupts the enemy's target lock in a way that it can just target (attack) the one sending the signals, keep this in PvE only though. The one with the most agro-points on a NPC ship gets attacked by it, this system may be the best way in my opinion.

I love the changes, will certainly make it more variable / exiting to fight NPCs.

The one and only thing I don't like about these changes is the possibility of warping into a complex (mission or otherwise) and getting destroyed without being able to do a damn thing about it... many times in missions I've had a landing where 5+ npcs were 3km away from my ship, and npc waves landing right on top as well. I don't mind things being hard, impossible isn't my cup of tea though

Dont get me wrong, i would love to see the new additions stated but at present no. The NPCs are unbalanced as is, i can open whoop ass on guristas but i have to use extreme caution against angels. The only advantage i could see from the additions is it will help to narrow the gap between PVE & PVP fittings which can only be a good thing.
But at present it would do nothing but push people into mining more for isk, as just NPCin for a few hours to make some cash would be come too dangerous, as well as less profitable.
Just so you know, i used to chain missions, and i enjoyed it, but i took the step out and got myslef into 0.0 and with some pvp to boot. All NPCs are to me now are a way to make isk to support my other ingame habits. With the proposed changes i sincerly doubt i will continue, as it offers too much risk, for too little reward, hell the rewards now suck. Unless you powergame and chain spawns your lucky if you get a hit on anything good. But me, i have a job, and other things which take away game time. So in preperation i think ill start training up my mining abilities to support my Combat char.

Yea ok pretty good ideas, but I want to backup what Szordin was kinda getting at, I like to solo on my own not because I don't like working in teams, say some of my members can't handle 0.0 rats or don't want to NPC hunt or even they are not online? The changes are intresting but do the CCP devs know that there is a large part of the EVE player base that is mostly solo players I can give you a many names of people I know that are pure solo players. Will these players get penalized for being solo?

Yay. Variety. I've been here 2 years and I found the NPCs very bland since they all do the same thing really. The only difference has been damage types. One thing I would like to see added is angels being more the explosive/kinetic damage type. Every other NPC type seems to sit between two damage types but Angels like to cover all four.

Originally by: Elve Sorrow Personally i dont like it. Its going to make NPCing harder and thus less profitable.
Now, my reasoning is simple. I do not NPC for fun. I NPC as a pure neccesity when needing cash for PvPing. This will pretty much remove NPCing as a way to make money for me, and i really suck at figuring out trading etc.
I suppose for those that NPC for fun will love it though.
Couldn't have said it better. These changes look *******s to be honest.

I know one thing for certain, the new NPC changes will now provide a much better training platform for PVP. And that's a very, very good thing (about time).

I just want to know if CCP wants the solo players to leave the game.
And don't answer me that they just have to shut up and gang with other players because I thought that Eve's main advantage was to allow everybody to play as he wants, solo or not, PvP or not. Not like some said, every single element of the game turned into a "training step" before 0.0 Pvp.
Mining, Ice harvesting, Producing (from tech I to common tech II), belt hunting in 0.5+, level 3 missions.... Except from complexes and tech II item trading (if you already have lots of Isks), there are currently no activity that worths the shot for solo players in Empire.
No need to flame me, I already have the feeling of being gently but firmly pushed toward the exit. |

Don't forget your tissues then?
There's still plenty to do solo. However, the simple fact is that this is a MMO, it is geared towards playing with others, so while going solo is possible, you simply cannot do nearly as much solo as you can in a group. Not sure what all you want to beable to do solo in empire space other than trading, mining, rat hunting, missions and complexes.
Regardless, if you're upset now, I wonder how you'd react if you get a cruiser or BS, then get beaten down by several frigs. I'm sure it'd be quite the whine...

Earn enough money to be able to use the new content regularly added to the game. What do you mean ? That a solo player will stick to tech I ships till the end of time ? Aren't the solo players also fee paying customers ?
Eve had a perfect structure for me : PvPers were in 0.0 with high money losses because of the Pvp but able to earn tons of money thanks to rare ore. Solo players in Empire were able to earn their money slower but with less risk and by other means like mining or industry. Now money income are so nerfed via mining, missioning that it takes weeks to reach what you would have done in a couple of days. It is an artificial lengthening that brings nothing but frustration.
If the only thing that Eve is dedicated to offer is PvP, well there are better MMO on the market for it. Just Guildwars, to pick one, would be better. I played Eve because it was the only game with a real economy. I'm now bound to missioning because the industry is so uniform that you can't really earn a decent margin from what you produce and then sell in Empire, an average skilled player missioning in cruiser can earn far more than a high skilled miner in MB. And a high skilled miner will never get any implant or loot a rare named.
The other economical aspects of the game are so unworthy that I have to convert my industrial character to a fighter in order to earn decent money. Lets just get rid of all these useless Industry/Science skills and replace them with new tools for Pvpers.
Have you ever wondered why you can have 15K players on Eve and why the 0.0 is like desert ? Are you all so sure that the majority wants PvP or is it the big mouth minority which is having CCP's attentions ? |

If NPC's are going to be in T2 ships they should also use/drop T2 items.

[ Immunity for Special NPCs On the topic of Cap Drain, Target Jam etc., super NPCs like Complex Bosses, Commanders and CONCORD etc. will be made immune to many of these effects. They will be acting similar to Dreadnoughts when they go into siege mode. More info will be posted later that will list which effects they will be made immune to. ]
I FING SWEAR TO CHRIST ALMIGHTY THAT YOU GUYS CANT PROGRAM ****. I am sick and fin tired or game devs who cant program a decent AI and instead have to make the AI "cheat" to be any of a challenge. I will say it again, and I will continue to say it. DO YOUR FIN JOBS, NO-ONE SHOULD HAVE IMMUNITY. That applies to npcs as well. You want to make them harder, make them SMARTER, not give them uber abilities. This is just another in the long line of mistakes that CCP has made. I have never had respect for you guys as programmers and never will.
