i really really really hope this doesnt kill Soloing NPCs...
sometimes its nice to do something without corpmates... and the list of solo stuff is pretty small as at was, i really hope CCP doesnt screw this up...
but we all know CCP when it comes to changes.

Edited by: Xavier Cardde on 03/09/2005 20:54:17 I also second the Guristas jamming thing...
why be completely put out of action?
these changes sound about as well thought out as igloos in Africa.

Why are Bloods getting both Long and short range abillities?
Both tracking disruption and cap drain... IMO that¦s abit harsh.
If that is the way it¦s suppose to be i would assume that "Beam bloods" get tracking disruption and "pulse bloods" get cap drain.
On a side note that people have said before:I¦m all for MORE npc types but NPCing for the 0.0 people i know is some thing to do when there¦s not much going on, if it get TO hard to do in "solo style" people will start to play other games untill more corp members come online.
The way i see it is : Belt npcing = solo play Complexes: group efforts

will deadspace loot be increased, or will it still be possible to kill the ~10 ships in a level 3 serpentis spies and get no loot at all?

hmm looks like the sanshas aren't going to be the teddy bears of stain anymore...oh well already devising theorys on how to deal with them also with nos being able to hurt the tank of a ship, will that also mean we will also we will get a useable amount of cap from them?
if so me likes the idea of a nos domi with drones for sanshas

Personally i dont like it. Its going to make NPCing harder and thus less profitable.
Now, my reasoning is simple. I do not NPC for fun. I NPC as a pure neccesity when needing cash for PvPing. This will pretty much remove NPCing as a way to make money for me, and i really suck at figuring out trading etc.
I suppose for those that NPC for fun will love it though.

I'd be interested to see the statistics on the proposed Elite Cruiser NPCs, since they sound pretty damn nasty in a bunch especially if they are assisting eachother. Will they have the same resistances as their piloted counterparts, and will we be seeing them in Level 3 Deadspace missions any time soon, perhaps as an end-boss?

On the face of it, these changes sound great. But with the introduction of jamming, remote sheild and armour boosting, will this mean the NPCs have a limited CAP? As has been said by a few peeps already, if not it will make it a tad unbalanced..... I have read this post and the dev blog and unless I've missed it there is no mention of NPC CAP limitation with the changes. Noo sig comming SOONÖ =================================================== What are we going to do about all this ignorance and apathy?.... I don't know and I don't care! |

OK... me bad... I did miss it
Originally by: TomB Ave Cap Drain the NPC Various modules have not been able to affect NPCs in the past; we have slowly been able to fix these issues (target jam for example). In B.C.P. you will be able to reduce tanking efficiency of NPCs by draining their capacitor.

Will they also fix the damage types dealt? currently all but angels speciallize in 2 damage types, making it much easyer to tank them, will this be ajusted so all factions use more damage types, or will it be balanced in some other way?
will the relevant attributes be made availeble on a show info or on some oputside database? Or even better, will shipscanning reveal their setups and allow us to work it out ourselves?
will missile range and damage be varied, or will all npc's have ultralong range on their missiles? will defenders be fixed in a way so they actually can do something, without constantly having to try to launch a defender, and it launching to slow to be able to intercept the missile it was launched at?

Will we be getting a 10/10 blood raider complex btw? And 7/10, 8/10 and 9/10? It's kinda weak that the highest blood raider complex that exist are 6/10's :<.

I see alot of super sniping bs's and multiple warp stab'd ravens npc'ing once this change happens. Since those will be the only two options a person has to npc solo. Which sucks tbh, I enjoy getting up close and personal and really don't like using bs's. Npc'ing for me is a time fill while waiting for other corp members to log on.
I understand that there are already people that use the above setup's to npc and they probably use them to more or less farm isk. But to the average player just looking to burn 30 minutes till something better gets going, these changes are just killing off another avenue of solo play. Please don't tell me this is a mmo blah blah blah. I know it is, and for pvp or 6/10+ complex's, etc.... I already work in a group. The simple fact is that I don't always want to or even have a group of people to work with.
I'll see what happens but if this is an attempt to make npc'ing more like pvp then ccp is headed down the same road as every other mmo out there. Mining, trading, npc'ing are there to make isk to pvp with, not as a purpose into themselves. Atleast that's what I alway's thought ccp had invisioned anyway. Lack of preparation on your part does not constitute greifing on mine |

I love these big content patches. It's pretty much ADAPT OR DIE!
However I think it would be easier for people to adapt if they had more options...
Which brings me to the point, FIX MY RAVEN! Missile tracking mechanism, tek II BC, and Turret based missile defenses please.

I have a RP oriented question - I thought the elite ships such as Assault Frigates were supposed to be pod pilot only?
Does this mean the new AF rats we will be fighting will be eggers? WTF SIG NERF 4TL :( |

TomB, grats - the new abilities for npcs were on my whishlist for EVE for quite some time, and your post exactly nailed what needs to be done to make NPCs more interesting. Please keep in mind though the spawn sizes and bounties, but if that will be well balanced then I guess we will have a winner here. And tbh, I can't wait for the day, when battleship loot actually be *battleship* loot.

Edited by: Bozse on 06/09/2005 00:46:40 Have u changed so that the npc's have unlimited cap untill they die now or that they have cap like any player so a nos actualy makes sense while npcing?
While i can understand your desire to make npc's more interesting i dont think tracking disruption is the right thing to do as it will make the tempest even harder to use against npc's, it's allready not realy good at tanking and have a realy hard time hitting criusers and if it where to be tracking disrupted aswell then it's basicly useless.
And for jamming npc's i sure hope that u have a good fix for drones in the same patch so that u actualy can have your drones attack as they shuld, that ALL drones attack the same target instead of scattering and go for one target each and a way to preset your drones to what ship type u want them to attack first/last.
That's all i can think of now.

The changes look interesting enough, although one thing worries me.
I know a majority of the population in 0.0 at the moment relies on NPC hunting for income to PvP. Are these changes going to make hunting a group affair? I sincerely hope not, as I usually reserve NPC hunting time for those rare hours when I'm the only one in my corp online or the only one nearby.
Changing rats to make it harder for people to solo hunt will just drive more people from 0.0, the reverse of what CCP has stated they want.
I'll wait and see what the changes are like, but I was hoping a dev could provide some insight on their reasoning behind these changes. If its just a simple "add more npcs to vary the gameplay" then there isn't much to discuss, but if they're looking to completely revamp the lifestyle of thousands of players - it needs to be discussed thourougly.

Oh, I forgot one thing. If NPCs will use such a wide range of effects, you need to put in the gfx to show those effects, so that you can see what is happening, ie who is suppoorting/ew-ing/nos-ing who, else it will be a total chaos.

Few questions..
Do all of the NPC ships remote shield boost/remote armor rep? Do only only bs's do it or frigs and cruisers too?
Do all of the NPC ships cap drain/ecm/tracking disrupt or only BS's and NPC hac's? And can a NPC battleship tracking disrupt/Cap drain and Remote armor rep at the same time or are they limited to different NPC ship types??

well im hopeing that its just the logistics ships that remote boost their surrounding fleet but i do also think that the ship descriptions need changing to reflect the threat type even if only describing something as being ew capable and not saying if its webbie/scramble/ecm aswell as ship scanning giving more accurate details about ur opponent making those items worth owning as opposed to being simple recycle fodder if u even waste time picking them up at all

Edited by: Szordin on 08/09/2005 01:48:17 I'm all for making NPC's more interesting, but I could see this as a killer. Maybe this was posted before I didn't read all the pages.
1) NPC's have unlimited ammo. 2) NPC's basicly have unlimited cap. 3) It seems NPCs have auto lvl 5 in all skills Thats the only way to explain the damage/range of some of the weapons they currently use. 4) NPC's can use MWDs in deadspace 5) NPC ships seem to ignore the cpu/grid limitations.
granted unlimited ammo isnt too bad But the rest, will certainly destroy the solo player. NPC's that can remote repair each other indefinately means chances are that no solo player will be able take any spawn of a few ships. And will probably make mission running near impossible solo, since missions seem to have a wide variety of ship types already.
I solo 99% of my time in EVE. And quite honestly thats the reason I play EVE its the one MMO that a solo player can make progress in. Most others, solo players become very hindered in the farther you progress.
NPC bounties really aren't that great anymore, so hopefully they will be balanced along with everything else, when this new changes are implemented.

I don't like it. The NPC will be overpowered and it will be impossible to hunt them solo... This will be the dead of the freelancers... I'm agree with the fact that complexes are for group and Belt's NPC for solo.
