Calling it now, Dust will be released with just 2 maps, 1 game mode, and not integrated with eve in any way. CCP will be "working on it" and promise to integrate the two games in the next patch which is "going to be awesome".
Several years later, we'l see a map pack released available for AUR, and a fix for assault rifles that have not been reloading reliably, but nobody will care.

years? hah you give them too much credit -------- CCP knows better than the players whats good for their game. SOE knew what was best for SWG too. Better than all those players that left too. This is your NGE/CU moment CCP. |

While this is a blatant generalization which can also apply to many PC gamers, the fact many players might quickly move on is actually a major concern which could ruin the whole Dust <=> EVE interactions

My precition - Very few fps players who buy dust will even care that it affects eve, but they'll care when eve affects them.

I do have high hopes for this game. Everyone says all console gamers will just skip this game for the next FPS to come out, but there hasn't been a FPS like this one ever created. If its done correctly, I cant see how this game would be over looked.
The only other FPS game that's different from the rest is MAG because of the large battles that take place instead of standard 16 vs 16 crap. Even though the developers abandoned that game and left it to die, many people still refuse to play anything else (me included) simply because its the type of FPS a lot of people have wanted. One that has a leveling system and progression. It is limited but its something.
CCP is going above and beyond with Dust and even though some may think its just another FPS game, its far beyond and other FPS console game on the market. Most MAG players are just waiting for Dust. There are a couple of websites full of people that have been waiting for dust for years and the MAG community is ****ting their pants.
There are millions of people who own a PS3 all CCP needs is a small portion of dedicated players like EVE. And by default dust will get a huge player base in the start at least because its going to be like $20 to play and thats it. Most people dont want to spend $60 on another stupid CoD game.

The problem is, "Fearless" says DUST will be pay and pay and keep paying in order to be competetive. For this to be viable the game REALLY needs to be excellent, and all reviews of the demos I've read so far said "average shooter, but the integration will rock" - something no one has seen yet. I'm worried that the game will not be able to keep a base of constantly paying customers, and that might well pull down EVE with it, or at least make all the dev time something for the garbage bin.

I agree with most of what you said. But I do disagree with the pay and pay to be competitive. CCP has said you should be able to get everything with ISK, but also able to buy the same weapons with $ if you dont have the time to earn it yourself. Now thats putting faith in CCP....but they were pretty explicit with saying there will be no pay to win for dust514. If that happened the game would instantly die. I wouldn't touch it.
Good point on the "average shooter, cool integration" I can only hope they spice things up and with 6 months of beta, maybe we testers can do that *crosses fingers*. If the game is truly good I would spend my own money in order to help the game progress, customizing your body armor to look different or add logos is fair and acceptable.
Taking a bunch of EVE devs away from EVE is bad though. Doing that could be problematic, they should hire a new team for Dust only.

the problem with dust is, it wont mean anything because its CCP or eve,
console players dont give a **** about PC. eve nothing to most console players dust is a shooter PS3 has more shooters then 360 shooters sell better on 360.
result will be, only a small group of people will buy dust ( unless it turns out to be really good) few will stay with dust by the time dust comes out, next gen will be right around the corner. Eve online next expansion details |

The attention span of the average console gamer is like 3 months maximu. Then they'll pick up the next FPS, and if they have to do anything complex they'll quit before the 3 months. Yes, there is a small minority who will keep playing.

Predictions eh? Ok i'll bite: "In the year two thousand, in the year two thousaaaaaaaaannd!"
One year after Dust's release, the last remaining dozen fans of the game are angered after CCP makes the game free for everyone. Outraged over the fact that they had to pay for it up until this point, they all emigrate to GeOW3, only to realize it too is long dead, having been killed off by MW3, which in return was killed off afterwards by BF3, which at that point had long ago been replaced by CS:GO, only to realize it too was dead having been replaced by...

You cant possibly know what I see or don't see. You can't possibly be stupid enough to think the word see has a singular definition.
Quote: see 1 [see] Show IPA verb, saw, seen, see+ing. űverb (used with object) 1. to perceive with the eyes; look at. 2. to view; visit or attend as a spectator: to see a play. 3. to perceive by means of computer vision. 4. to scan or view, especially by electronic means: The satellite can see the entire southern half of the country. 5. to perceive (things) mentally; discern; understand: to see the point of an argument.
Ergo, you are trolling.

the person labeling someone a troll is usually trolling themselves in cases like this. especially you. Honestly. Seeing that 90% of the things Ive seen you post is combatative/trolling you calling me one is just kinda funny.
Quote: You can't possibly be stupid enough
passive agressive insulting is also trolling :D However., me pointing out that theyre more likely to funnel their money into the WoD project than EVE isnt trolling, its realistic. -------- CCP knows better than the players whats good for their game. Edited by: Russell Casey on 30/08/2011 22:52:31 Prediction: Dust comes out as normal. The FPS crowd plays it for a month then goes on to Call of Duty 27. EVE players *****, moan, threaten to cancel their subs and shoot the statues but in the end all the big 0.0 alliances order their members to buy a PS3 or be knocked down to the renter corps. u see, this is false and it seems only pc elitist think that
why do us console gamers go seem to go game to game? cause we do.. i'l have gears 3 skyrim and BF3 this winter, a typical gamer saturday would probably be, wake up play some skyrimm, friend gets on and we play horde in gears, another friend gets on and we kick a in BF3...
its how it is, a lot of console gamers are just as, oh wait, more mature then PC players and eve players.
i will probably get dust ( if its decent) cause i just recently bought a ps3, its not as bad as i thought it would be, mag is great and it has some good exclusives, but Dust will be just another FPS and so far it hasnt shown anything to be special in the market. Eve online next expansion details |

Wonder if this isnt gonna make renter corps real money type renters given that youll HAVE to help with these defenses in some corps/alliances. IE Get a PS3 or get out.

Even if it's moderately successful at launch it won't stay that way for long. Console gamers have ADHD and will move on to another game within a month. Also any money it makes will more than likely go towards the Twilight mmo and not Eve.
