Not sure if anyone has investigated these or not, but after looking at Jowen's new pdf, I saw the two Talocan gates and their descriptions.

I'm now in a c5 w-space in a zephyr with an unimplanted clone. (I plan on going into c6 as soon as I find one.)
Thus far I've been just scanning, warping around, reading and checking if there are any proximity triggers left to trigger. No great revelations to share as of yet, but if someone has something in mind, I can try it out (as long as it's possible with a zephyr).
Oh, and I like the idea of podding myself at a site to see if it allows to get any new info. (Not that I have any great desire to bring back to my hangar a ship that has hugged dozens of things in quarantined areas.) So if someone has already tried podding oneself at some site (to no avail), please post it so I can try a different site/approach.
Oh, and: has anyone tried scanning/blowing up those silos in quarantined areas? From the description it sounds like there is something inside.

I've found my C5, static C6 and started my campaign to see if self-podding next to the structure gets me anywhere. Things that didn't work, installment #1:
* Triggering the Mirror site in a pod. The pod simply doesn't have the electronics capable of handling the flood of information from the Mirror. (In game terms, it would be way too cheap to allow this.)
* Self-destructing while cloaked. There is a "sweet spot" just above each complex, close enough to trigger the pop-up while still being just far enough away from the conduits to stay cloaked. However, this is purely academic since you can't light the fuse with both hands and still keep your elbow on the cloak button.
* Self-destructing in a pod, even if you've already triggered the pop-up. Like the first point, this would have probably been too easy.
Next step: Self-destructing in a Zephyr. I'll let you know later how that goes.

Things that don't work, part deux:
* Self-destructing in a Zephyr. Having never self-destructed before, I didn't realize it didn't ACTUALLY blow you up...just your ship. That doesn't make much sense, but whatever. It puts me back at the point where self-destructing in just a pod does nothing.
* Self-destructing at 0m from the structure. Taking a clue from "The Vitrauze Project," I parked my pod so it was sitting right on top of both the Oruze Enclave, the Communications Enclave, and the Medical Enclave (three separate attempts), hoping that at least one of them would "catch" my digits as they raced back to my new clone. No such luck, however.
I am fresh out of ideas, but I'm keeping a scanning alt in this C6 in case any of you have better notions.
P.S. One of my steps was scanning an empire exit to use for bringing in fresh clones. It wasn't until hours later that I actually looked at the name of that low-sec system--Vitrauze. Wow. Talk about literally following in Burreau's footsteps.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of blowing myself up in a Class 6. While scouting around I found the site 'Integrated Terminus' in a class 4 binary system which I don't recall visiting before. When I warped to it I got a pop-up suggesting it would reveal some new insight into the interactions between the Sleepers and the Talocan, but the site never spawned. Neither did any of the others of the same name in the system.
Searching around it appears others have been able to get to the site in the past and have received new pop-ups from destroying certain structures. Perhaps it's time to be a little more invasive in our investigations and see who turns up to complain when structures start exploding. Those Talocan structures already look pretty fragile so I can't imagine it would take much to dissect them. Maybe Sleeper enclaves have weak spots?
From my excursions through W-space it appears the systems are so densely populated now that for there to still be significant stuff that has not been found we must be required to do something far outside of anything we would normally do while living in W-space.

Since no one has gone down this path yet.
Quote: Space is a lullaby, exploration a dream. The motionless environments beyond the wormholes are places of refuge, retirement, safety, stasis. Nestled in this corner, a comfortable deadspace pocket, something ancient resides: a society asleep, their secret structures inert and isolated, safe in soundless void.
Quote: These ruins doze away, oneiromantic. TheyÆve slumbered for millennia, yet their structure remains intact. In their torpor, their memories have dimmed, their significance forgotten, their inhabitants faded. Ripe secrets are stored in this sleeping mass, hidden wonders for the taking.
Oneiromancy is a form of divination based upon dreams; it is a system of dream interpretation that uses dreams to predict the future.[1]
Torpor is alternatively used as a reference to any non-physiological state of inactivity[2]
Quote: Reaching the SleepersÆ treasures is a hazardous task. Something stirs amidst the ancient outpost: a nagging fear, a festering phantasm. Not everything sleeps peacefully here: Who knows if there are nightmares lurking in this berceuse?
Berceuse translates to "cradle song".[3]
Originally by: Ghost Hunter It bugs me because it would have been a great opportunity to blow open new items on the Rogue Drones, pushing them forward in plot advancement and evolving their concept. This is just the beginning.

WE AS A GROUP need to figure out the mystery and let the information become public before the CCP Storyline Team will take any action. Pretty boring mystery to solve if the Mystery Maker just hands you the solution in the end.

I think the Jove has become incredible weak and are far from the superior beings they used to be. Capsuleers are taking their spot and the Jove are too few to do anything about it. They still try to use/abuse and manipulate us but we are the gods now. Sure Jove technology is still powerful but there are nobody around to use it and maybe they are even forgetting themselves how to operate it or losing the few that knew.
I am thinking this way because it has been the Storyline Teams focus for some time now to really emphasize that capsuleers really are the ultimate beings in New Eden and only ourselves can stop us. Further, making the Jove weak would make it possible to open up for more interaction with the Jove (open Jove space) without messing with the balance of power in the game.
If this has any connection with the Sleeper mystery is still unknown.

I think the fact that the Sansha's have a Jove battlestation kind of backs that up. Their ability to use WH's to attack where they want to, leads me to think they can control wh's and have used them to enter Jove space.
Lastly your wh data is amazing, ty for it. Some tidbit's I've gleamed - all wh's have 2 types of anomolies, a civilian type and a military type. The civilian ones, contain unique data for the most part. From their naming convertion, I would say the class 6 wh's are closer to where the sleepers orginated from. Also their frigate and cruiser drones are brand new, while their Battleship drones are old, obviously the enclaves are still producing frigates and cruisers, but I would suppose not battleships, could that be why there is no roid fields in WH space (except hidden ones). The fact that sleepers were studying Talocan and Terran data, and ignoring others (like Jove which must have been around) shows what they valued. Additionally, the Talocan Disruptor Tower and the Talocan Extraction Silo, look like they were used for harvesting and storing something like isogen-5, maybe to power their gates? Notice that the Talocan gates aren't damaged, only "worn"? Finally, the Talocan ruins look like they lost a fight (wrecked ships floating in space), while the sleeper ruins don't appear to have any drone wrecks about.

The angle that the Sleeper Drones effectively "grow" from the little to the big doesn't have a lot of traction around here, but it is easy to take the hints that way.
The part where the drone's jump drive type mechanism appears to have self destructed ineffectively, to me makes me keep thinking that its an Isogen-5 powered wormhole style jump mechanism. The blurb on it definitely implies a deliberate self damage rather than a small Isogen-5 detonation causing the damage, so maybe it is a self destruct that is only targeted at the drone's specific navigation info, and not the mechanism of its operation. Others (like Sanshas, or us) potentially learning how to control wormholes or do wormhole based system jumps thanks to Sleeper Drone tech was probably not a great concern to the Sleepers, so long as nobody finds out how to get to certain hidden areas that would be in the nav computer of the drones. |

Per Bastet said " Heres the Thing, has anyone actually taken apart the sensor suite on the Zephyrs? How do we know that there isn't another suite in the ship thats scanning for stuff we don't know about?" I bet someone would have. Pod pilot are so integrated with ships they can tell which engine is faulty by putting the hand on the hull and feeling the ship vibrations and thats being outside the Pod let along plugged in. Those pod pilots with level 5 rigging skill I bet would spot a hidden scanning array. How do you hide a scanning away from a pod pilot in such a tiny basic ship?
How many wormhole corps wouldn't take a Zephyrs to bits and study it to try and repeat the technology allowing it to not get shot by sleepers? How many of those people wouldn't notice a large amount of data stored, hidden sensors, equipment to broadcast the data and hidden software to send the data.

I reckon the Zephyr is something different alltogether. I reckon it's a messege from the Sleepers, through the sisters, to us, the podpilots. It's a way of saying, this is sleeper technology, and they're sharing it with you, for free. It's a peace offering. Nobody said that the sleepers opened the wormholes, and why would they? They want to endure the ages, you don't do that by inviting possible enemies into your space.

Edited by: Jowen Datloran on 17/07/2010 09:05:01 I have stated this somewhere else but I can do it again:
It is my belief the Sleepers made their drones out of salvaged Talocan ships.
Reason:
There are very few Talocan ships to be found in w-space and those you do found have had all their interior removed and left to float. Originally by: Derelict Talocan Ship It looks like this ship was gutted, then left to drift.
Inside the Talocan ships you find Sleeper Hull Sections that can reversed engineered and constructed into tech 3 ship hulls using Sleeper drone components.
The reason why the Sleepers are producing smaller and less powerful drones now than earlier is because they ran out of construction materials. It is not because the drones are growing in size with age. Perhaps they manged to tune the jump drives on the later generations of drones better, meaning they manged to get further and that is why we find smaller drones in the perimeter and frontier systems and few larger ones.
I will also state again: I see little clues suggesting the Sleeper drones primary purpose is warfare. Instead they seem meant for interstellar scouting and cartography.
Oh, and if you have another theory regarding the Sleeper drones, please come up with other reasonable explanations to why we find Sleeper hulls in Talocan ships and all the other issues I have listed. Thanks.

Isogen-5 is really a curious thing...
-Traces of isogen-5 are emanating from the Eve gate
-It was the Jamyl superweapon which she used to destroy Minmatar fleet. But how did she aquire the isogen-5 in the first place? Jamyl chatting with Lord Victor might contain some clue, Sanshas were mentioned: "You're sure the Sansha weren't a target of your adversary?" Who is this "adversary"? I wonder if Sansha has gainded access to isogen-5.
-Jovians were interested of it to such extend that they had dealings with Blood Raiders to aquire it from gigantic rogue drone hive. But why didnt jove fetch it by themselves? How were the Jove able to "speak drone language"? Why were drones collecting it? How did the Abaddon got there? Also, there the another threadnaugh how rogue drones are building jove station, i believe that they are just assembling another isogen-5 silo, IF the drone structure has anything to do with this matter...
-Isogen-5 is the destructive power behind the shattered planets:
Quote: ...assembled for a very specific purpose, and deliberately scattered throughout the New Eden cluster and beyond.
Nor could they know that the ancient race which had placed them there possessed not only a vision beyond the grasp of today's science, but also the technological advancement necessary to realize its potential.
Ancient race? Apparently the Thukker Vaga pilot is responsible of shattering total of 9 planets. The World on Fire chronicle suggests that the radiation from the isogen-5-drone-silo-explosion triggered the rest of the "hidden isogen-5 pockets". The explosion which shattered Seyllin 1 was located between the star and the planet, so there definately was a cache of this mineral.
-Isogen-5 appears only at specific type of stars. Lianda was astrophycist, and Oruze enclaves have "solar engineering". Clue perhaps? According to the SoCT info, they sometimes train non-Jovians too in their Kitz¦s or enclaves. And the chattery at the end of the Anoikis chronicle hints that Lianda was "taught by the best". Also i too believe that its jovian and Concord CEO chatting there. Also the chattery mentions that when world is focussing on the Seyllin cataclysm then they are making bold moves elsewhere. This would explain why Sansha has been able to conquer parts of Jove space. The Jove have abandoned their space (again) or their forces are occupied elsewhere.
The questions that im looking answers is: What happened to Jamyl? What does she know? And how did she get her superweapon?

Look at post # 22 in this thread. Has anyone else seen this message?
http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1054762&page=1#22
I have seen the "You have entered a quarantine area, this region is infected..." one, but not the referenced one. It's interesting considering that the quarantine area is one of the few sleeper areas that contains all Talocan structures.
Also this paragraph from The Empyrian Age (p516, hardcover)really confuses me, "He was the last living creature aboard a ship that was hurled through Point Genesis, which - contrary to empire lore - was not at all what it seemed. If the Jovians could feel hope the way Marius did - indeed, the way all humans should - then the hope of an entire race was dying along with him."
Did the Jovian come through the EvE gate? How is that possible? Isn't our history predicated on the fact that the gate closed - cutting us off from terra? And if the EvE gate is "not what it seemed", what is it? It's said it was a natural wormhole? Is this paragraph saying it was an Unnatural wormhole (i.e. man made)? Lastly the hope of the Jovian race it to defeat the "jovian disease", thus are they still able to pass through the EvE gate, but haven't found what they needed to on the other side? Do they need the "ancient coordinates" to find Terra, and thus engineered the opening of wormholes for us to find the path for them, even though they knew something bad was behind them? And here's the real reach, was the event that closed wormholes off in the first place, for whatever reason, the event that closed the EvE gate?

Quote: It is my belief the Sleepers made their drones out of salvaged Talocan ships.
That makes a lot of sense actually and I think the main and only purpose of the sleeper drones is guarding something. The three types of sentry turrets are named after mythical dogs. Guard dogs?
As far as the Jove I also think they realized they were too weak but not compared to the capsuleers but the Enheduanni. In Theodicy the Jove are very clear about who they are fighting. They arranged to defeat the Amarr as a reaction to seeing what the Amarr had done to the slaves which shows what motivates the Jove.
When you look at The Empyrean Age novel I think you can see the same Enheduanni methods at work in Jamyl and that other guy that was messing with Tibus Heth and with very similar results. War

Why all this messing about.
I dunno about you chaps but if I had my way I'd just deploy a detatchment of merc marines (and maybe a team of research scientists) into the structures. All this trying to guess their purpose from passively monitoring emissions all seems far too defeatist for my liking. Maybe they'd die, maybe they wouldn't either way we'd learn something. Some of the structures are apparently unbreachable with my weapons. But there's ruined structures out there that have had their integrity compromised and I know that Archive Terminals aren't immune to having a hole blown in their side big enough to get a team of marines in for a look around.

Indeed, and kinda my point. We're supposed to be using 'in universe' methods of deducing the sleepers purpose but we only have a tiny fraction of the possible methods open to us. Leaving us with a lot of tiny bits of disparate infochunks which could be put together in any one of a hundred ways. I know people are enjoying the hunt but really, after reading this thread, everyone's just stumbling around in the dark sticking words together and hoping that Dropbear decides that we just 'got the answer'.
My thoughts:
The infinite power source: Yan Jung tech has been described as having this, in conjunction with an 'almost' impenetrable shield. In the Deception COSMOS mission.
The quote from Ior Labron: There's obviously loads of possible interpretations but I'd say the most likely is that we, the player races, are the ones that have been stuck in confinement, we certainly have no racial memory of how we got here. It may be that the Jovians were locked in with us (possibly they were the target of the gaol, we were just collateral damage, or possibly we really are the ones locked away for a reason and the Jovians are either in the same boat or are here to watch over us. I prefer to think that the Jovians were locked away from the rest of the universe, we just happened to be in there with them) It may be that the Jovians have simply directed matters within the 4 empires towards the day when they can use us to strike back at their gaolers.
The actual wormhole civilisation is a strange lot. The differing ages of the various sleeper drones, coupled with the fact that the battleships may have seen combat at some time in the distant past (while the frigates and Cruisers are apparently pristine). There are many parallels with the Jove empires of old; their technology level, their chronological origins and their apparent suffering at the mercy of an unknown disease. But at the same time we don't really know anything about their buildings. With the possible exception that they seem to have been fairly benign; they certainly seemed to value knowledge simply for knowledges sake very highly.
What about the presence of Talocan structures 'protected' by Sleeper drones? Were they simply allied, or was it a more complicated arrangement. The presence of Talocan battleships littering Talocan sites would suggest that it wasn't a mutual defense pact. Why maintain a seperate defense force when you have the Sleepers around to defend you, unless the relationship wasn't entirely amicable.
Maybe we're going around it the wrong way, maybe we do want diplomats, not scientists and warriors. But, in the words of Johnny Maxwell "There's no 'don't shoot' button".

Like I have said previously; some people like to speculate and make up their own explanation and story based on personal preference while disregarding clues and supportive evidence. I have no hard feelings regarding that as it provide me with thoughts to play with. But it is very unlikely to provide a satisfying, well supported and meaningful explanation. EDIT: And an explanation the CCP Storyline Team will react upon.
I assure you, that is not the way I operate. I take the investigator approach and to my surprise this mystery might not be as difficult to unravel as I initially assumed. Though, being true to the investigation, I will provide no conclusions at the current stage, only the clues I have found.

My thoughts exactly Jowen.
It may seem we are stumbling in the dark only because it is such a big story in time and space and because the clues are few and cryptic. My theory is that as soon as you have enough understanding of the story you will find a way, in game, to prove it. Stuff is too well hidden and clues too scarce to just go run around W-space and hope to run into something.
For example this Chronicle I dont think many people took great notice of it but I believe it is a very big clue in the sleeper story.
The scientist mentions three races of animals of which two are quite obviously linked to human races and the third with a little imagination also. The absence of the Caldari could be a clue or just be because it would make it too obvious. The scientist even refers to the Slaver as the most dangerous which would fit in with Theodicy.
Then there is the picture. I assume this is the Charisoco in Minmatar colors and if a thrasher were an animal it would look like this. The animal is looking at one of the icons. At first I couldnt remember where I had seen it but I knew I had. Then I noticed while doing a little planet management it looks a whole lot like the icon on the processors.
If this story is about animals the ending and the entire idea about hope makes no sense. When you regard as about human races going extinct and a greater force manipulating them it could fill in a some empty spaces in the puzzle. Especially when you think of Lianda doing exactly what is suggested in the chronicle and wanting to be a beacon for those that would follow her.
I believe it is not a good idea to follow Lianda and the last line could be evidence to that.
I know all of this could be my over active imagination but it is a puzzle piece. Whether it is a puzzle piece in the sleeper puzzle or where it would fit in remains to be seen. In other words it is a theory that needs some proof.

Exactly, Auwnie, you need proof; proof that support your theory or proof that goes against it. Both are equally valuable. Good luck in your search.

Just read extinction chronical and has anyone else thought that maybe WH space is a kind of maze and we possibly are the subjects trying to get to the other end occasionally getting stimulous(pop ups) to keep us going?

Yan Jung sound like a Caldari analogue, absense of Yan Jung from any link to WH space (by my reckoning, the only one of the 4 ancient races in that boat), Jove gave capsule technology to the Caldari...
As fun as this has been, it is starting to feel a bit off now. My thoughts turn away from the puzzle itself and instead to questioning the development logistics of ensuring that ingame hooks are there when players look for them. The players may be ready to progress the story (not saying we are yet) but valid ideas for doing so simply aren't implemented to be functional in the game.
Reminds me of my first ever RP event run by an employee of the developer in an MMO, which was in fact in Eve many years ago. I got to a point in it where I was speaking to the GM running the event to advance to the next step, and I was supposed to have something in my hold from the previous step. I didn't have the required object. I had done everything I thought I was supposed to do, and was left wondering - is it not there because that's part of the story? Is it not there because of a bug? Is it not there because I failed to follow some instruction properly?
No way to find out without the GM breaking character, which he of course didn't do. To this day I don't know what went wrong, but I'm almost certain it wasn't an intended part of the story since other players progressed through there fine while I tried to get the GM to throw me a bone, and he blew me off the way I'd expect to be treated if he thought I was just trying to cheat my way through the event. |
