Dropping the games price says this as well...... For example, I sae WARHAMMER Online in Walmart for $9.99.

Well look at the bright side: at least the STO:ers aren't going through the whole tired "woe is me, this is CU/NGE all over again" rigmarole. They're leaning more towards "I wonder if we can beat Hellgate London for quickest death?", and that's always refreshing… ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

It doesn't look like it somehow.
The owners don't give a frell about their IP as long as masses floc to anything startrek related.
Take for example the buttheads Rick Berman and Brannon Braga with their "enterprise" (insert puke smiley). They started off with saying 'guys, we have something no other trek ever had, we have an arc! 'Only to shoot the arc down in the first episode. One of those idiot producers never even saw a trek film/ tv series prior before he was brought onboard the show.
How can you expect any self respect from the owners of the IP? They're just in for the raw money, they don't give a jakk manure about what vomit this or that company produces with their IP as long as it brings them money.
<--Ex trek fan.
Um, Berman and Braga worked with Roddenberry on STG until his death, created DS9 and Voyager(Voyager sucked though). So they saw plenty.

Hehe, only the morons that didn't have Vista
Actually Vista and XP are inherently bugged with the boot sector, including every version of Vista released. If you install it with multiple boot devices, say 2 hard drives or partitions, it will fail if you remove one.
Morons indeed.

Indeed... I don't know why anyone would ever buy a lifetime sub before playing the game... of course, the fact that you can only ever buy them BEFORE the game is launched is very telling. Same thing with LoTRO.
The only time games ever offer lifetime subs before launch is when they need capital or they need to show shareholders that there's interest in the game.
Essentially, you can always tell the developers who themselves don't have a lot of faith in their product, just look for the pre-launch lifetime sub offers.
i have a lifetime sub to lotro, and have done since it launched. personally i think it is an awesome game and it captures the spirit of the lotr ip perfectly. i did however play the game for 2 weeks before comitting the cash to it. it was worth every penny and is the only reason i have been able to keep playing it since the game launched. i wish eve had a lifetime sub option as then i wouldnt have to take breaks when money is tight.
i do agree on the point of buying a lifetime sub without playing the game first, its a pretty stupid move to pay that much for a game you have never played as even the best reviewers cant tell you if you will like the game or not.
however i disagree that lifetime subs show lack of faith in the product, i think it shows the company does have faith because asking a player for $200 for a new game on top of the purchase price takes a lot of balls. sometimes it pays off, as was the case for turbine with lotro, and sometimes it doesnt, as is the case for cryptic with sto. of course, turbine had a much more stable product, not just in terms of server stability, but in terms of the quality of the product overall and the pre-launch free trial for lotro probably help as well ____________________________________________ Please resize your signature to the maximum allowed of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24000 bytes.StevieSG |

I have a theory that CCP secretly hires the goons to destroy new games. Look at the glory of havoc they caused in Warhammer and now STO, I'm sure others as well.
If CCP has done this, Excellent use of the goons and good job. If not... Its something to think about, they are good at it and enjoy it.

Didn't Auto Assault die even faster than Hellgate? God, that game sucked. Was given to me free, but I'd played the beta, so never installed it. Wonder if there are any collectors of boxed copies of defunct MMOs out there.

Don't know, but I seem to recall that the news of them shutting down was a complete non-surprise. I gave up on the beta a week or two before launch and didn't follow up on it – with the constant change towards more grind, less content and less balance during the last month or so of development, it was pretty clear where that one was heading… Sad, really, because I liked the setting and the art design. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

so STO has Shatner, WoW has Mr. T and Ozzy...
I figure we need somebody like Samuel L. Jackson or Nathan Fillion.
Bungie has Mr. Fillion tied up right now, I almost positive they'll slip him into Reach.
As for Jackson, that would be a match made in Heaven. "Im tired of these Mutha ****ing Frigs on this Mutha ****ing Carrier!"; Mr. Jackson's response to 200+ Frig fleet.

To the GOONS, and Starfleet Dental/Nerds of Prey
1. I have never seen such a concerted effort by one party to cause grief and annoyance to others.
2. I LOVE you guys, and everything you are doing to Star Trek: Carebear.
3. It's stuff like this that proves that in order to play EVE, you need to be awesome.
I salute you, Goonswarm, I saulte you. _________________________________________________________________

Hellgate was honestly a great idea, but they needed several more months of beta and they knew it. honestly if they didnt depend on EA and had come in with more capitol i bet they would have done great had they let the game cook longer. for people that came from Blizzard they should know that quality takes time and it was Quality that helped the SC, WC, and Diablo games sell so well.
low quality always hurts a game, Vanguard for example was buggy and crash prone. and they go and rushed it out to beat a WoW expansion, really bright move there.
CCP being self publishing is great. if an EVE content push takes a bit longer its just fine, there is no EA yelling at them, "patch the memory leaks later, they wont notice".

It's always seemed to me that all the betas i've gotten into have been really quite playable and had a really good atmosphere and playerbase. Then they go live, and it all falls to ****. At least in eve the game is playable when someone is ****ing with you, there isn't just a sudden lack of quest specific monsters...
