Fan Fest will always be in Iceland. However I would love to see ccp have a smaller Fest in the usa the eu and china. That way they could save the omg stuff for the end of the year but in the middle of the summer months when alot of playes are out of school there could be an event to at least get toghether as a group and enjoy contests and get to talk to whatever devs happen to be handy in that part of the world. If ccp did that then I think eve loyalty would soar as it would allow a much larger group of players to feel like part of the company.

There was a CCP-supported fan organized fest in Vegas early in '06. It was epic. It's where some of the first screenshots/pictures of ships rendered with the new graphics engine surfaced. Oveur, TomB and some other dude I forgot the name of where there. Think there were at least 100/150 people there. I'll see if I can find pics later.

Yeah, but they just made that fan fest because they wanted to be able to make their vegas vacation a business write off. that way they get a free flight to vegas, free rooms, though the losses at the craps table probably took some fancy paperwork

iceland is great! been there last year and it's a really fantastic place! as there is not much else than stones and grass it's the place to party!
i agree with another post though that there could be smaller events around the globe or CCP could support player organized meetings again! i remember devs/ISD being at the first london **** up for example!

No offence, but why not?
Do you not have grand parents, brothers, sisters, friends and/or other relatives that could babysit for a few days?
On top of that it's not like fanfest is announced mere days before it takes place - there is plenty of time to plan mutually-overlapping vacation time to cover it.
I really don't want to be harsh here, but if you want to go *that* badly then you will find ways to make it happen.

Edited by: LuCiD on 28/09/2009 10:16:24 This has been beaten to death over and over again, but sure, let's keep doing it...
FanFest will always be held in Iceland. That's it. Holding it in <insert your country here> will never happen (unless you live in Iceland, in which case, shush you!). If you cannot participate when it's being held in Iceland, what makes you think you can participate in <insert your country here>? You will still have to rip out a few days to be there, unless you happen to live right next to where it is. It's not worth driving 5 hours to and from, every day. If you and your partner needs to, but can't plan 6 months ahead, you shouldn't go. If you have kids, dump them at family or friends for a few days. Let them be spoiled. You got 6 months to plan it. If your boss won't let you plan vacation 6 months ahead, (s)he sucks, fire him or find a new job. If you cannot afford to go when it's in another country, you can't come. It's really not that expensive unless you choose to make it so (staying at the fancy hotel instead of the cheap etc).
Did I miss anything?

Just put it in Indianapolis.
CCP has already set up there multiple times at GENCON.
Centrally Located.
Easy to navigate.
A convention center complex in the heart of the city, that would have no problem handling the EVE Masses.
An expanded and improved Indianapolis International airport.
Vast amounts of high quality; low price hotels within minutes of the airport and convention center.
A clean and respectable city. Ease of access, allowing people to attend without wiping out their wallets, be it organizers or visitors.

yawn.... americans thinking about only themselves again. fanfest is centrally localed between the two largest areas of player population, europe and the usa. fanfest also brings in more tourism which benefits more than ccp.

Simply suggesting a Fanfest in the US to celebrate a game people love isn't as bad as you are implying. People really do have lives out side of Eve, reserving fanfest for merely the "hardcore" aspect of the game is lopsided. However, I will agree that having fanfest in Iceland brings in a significant boost to their economy. That being said, a very large and lucrative profit would be made in the US. A three day event over the weekend, located in the middle of the states, would bring out a quite a crowd. Minimal planning required, for a good time we know CCP would give us.
No one is suggesting getting rid of the Iceland fanfest, only throwing a light bulb out there to allow people with jobs that are significantly more demanding schedule wise or don't have the money to fly internationally, to experience a fanfest.

I wouldn't mind if the fanfest was held in the US, except for two minor details:
Everything would be twice as expensive. US Customs.

Err... *raises hand* from the US here... Been living in Italy for 2 years now, more expensive to live in Europe compared to the US. =\ (You get 1 US Dollar for every .68 Euro)
Dunno whats up with Customs... any particular thing you are trying to bring into the US
