A lot of irrational USA bashing for simply asking if an event could be held in the USA for a game that has quite a few US players.
Is someone feeling inadequate?

I know you don't see it, and that's the sad thing, but it's irrational to expect CCP to hold fanfest in the US.

A event is not THE event. Fanfest should always be in Iceland, it's CCP's home and logistically it makes sense.
What is discussed is simply A event that would allow people in the States to enjoy something similar to Fanfest without having the hassles of overseas travel. This would not take away from the main event, it would just be a way for USAers that cannot travel to do something. It's not out of the realm of rationality as they do have a CCP office in the States, in Atlanta, which is the busiest airport in the world so travel shouldn't be an issue for those who wish to attend.

Well, there's only been one place I've gone to where I was treated like I was a ****ing (potential) criminal/smuggler/terrorist by the customs and interrogated using these weird mind games designed to make guilty (and sensitive) people crack.
Oh, and that was just passing normally through the custom booths at the airport. I shudder when imagining what it must be like when you get 'take to the side'.

It's far less stressful for someone to travel from the US than to the US.
The fear and paranoia of that country has to be experienced to be believed. I would never willingly try to enter it again for any reason.
That said, for the people that already live there, and that's a lot of people, it would be pretty easy to fill a hall for an EVE event. Just not the FanFest event. Leave that one where it belongs.

I agree. You dont see any "hold fanfest on the EU mainland, preferably in <insert posters country here>" Also, CCP is iceland C/D?
Christ. Posting this to shut up all the stupid X people who have a grudge with Y country. It's almost 2010. Let it go. -------------------------------------------------- Sig nerfed =p |

Originally by: AizenSousuke Yes, I'm bitter about this situation. I'm honestly sick of all the attacks between X and Y countries.
To be perfectly honest, people are just reacting to the prevailing US arrogance.
In the minds of most there, USA is #1, and everyone outside their borders is either a terrorist or inferior somehow, and should be mocked relentlessly. Most other countries are extremely polite and tolerant of others in comparison.
If this thread was someone suggesting Fanfest be held in, say, France, where many EVE players reside as well, then you'd see some serious bashing going on. I don't think France has ever been mentioned online without hordes of Americans trashing it for no good reason. Same goes for Canada.
And I know not all Americans are like that, but the good ones among you are being given a bad name by what appears to be the majority.

The only thing I have against the idea of CCP having an extra fanfest in the US (and one in the EU too, as long as we're wishing) is that it's a pretty big disruption of their normal activities. I want those Devs developing, not spending 3 months a year explaining all the awesome things they'd do if they had more time.

Well suffice to say that not all Americans believe us to be superior to other countries, but there are those that do feel that way, as well there are those that feel that way in their own countries. There is nothing wrong with patriotism wherever you my hail from, but patriotism doesn't mean that you look down upon others. I am proud to be an American, I am proud of what we have accomplished. We have our fair share of problems, just like everywhere else. I was not aware that the 'perfect Utopian society' had yet been identified. We live in a cruel and imperfect world. Which has made people jaded and angry, as demonstrated by the tone of many of the replies to what was a simple question by someone that thought a CCP Fanfest in the United States would be a possibility. It doesn't matter that some of the replies are intended to only enrage and anger with outlandish or exaggerated "experiences", it matters only if you allow those folks to sway your attitude with it. EvE is home to a whole world of people with their own ideals and values and their own prejudices. Take their opinions for what they are. Opinions.

I don't see "prevailing american arrogance" as the issue in this thread. I see ethnocentric prejudice against some guy asking for a US event by Euros.
I'm quite tired of hearing about "arrogant americans" as if there aren't arrogant euros, asians, and eskimos.
Personally I blame MTV.

It supports the notion that Americans think the universe revolves around them, and people, for the most part, are mocking that.
Toughen up and learn to take a few jabs now and then. No one here hates you, we just think you're a bit silly sometimes.

No. I think the reason is as many have stated, people live all around the globe and getting to america isnt the easiest thing. Even if you did live in america you would still have to buy a ticket to travel accross half the state and book a hotel. I doubt anyone is going to want to drive 5 hours a day ect. Not to mention getting to the USA isnt the easiest thing in the world.
