Im new to the sniping business, but I gather its a matter of distance and precision.
But what weapons to use and what skills needs to be topped?

Edited by: Bibbleibble on 01/09/2009 07:58:06 Sniping only really works for a few cruiser sized ships, battleships and dreadnoughts.
Basically, you take a ship with long range weapons and try and push as much range out of them as you can (With most people aiming for about 150-200km depending on the situation and other factors). Frigate weapons are generally too short ranged to do this well, although the harpy and cormorant can both reach some impressive ranges with rails.
Also, missiles are (despite their long range) fairly bad sniping weapons on everything other than the Cerberus really due to the delayed damage. ________________________________________________ For changes to Minmatar Battleships click here (Now with added summary!) |

Well this is only for lvl 1 missions. Iv heard that 40km would be OK. Is there any frigate weapon that can reach that range?

You can fit some missile flight time/velocity rigs to kessie, but im not sure about cpu.
And if i remember good kestrel has no problem doing l1 missions.

stick to missile skills as others wont impact how far missiles go.

Flight time and maximum missile velocity are what you are looking for to increase range, Missile Bombardment and Missile Projection are what you are looking for. Also, if that ship has a bonus to flight time and/or missile velocity like the Caracal then you want to max the ship skill. Kestrel doesn't have a range bonus, so adding frigate skill doesn't do anything for the range (but it does for damage).

Any more than about 30km is overkill for missions in a Kestrel to be honest. Train up missile bombardment and missile projection to increase range

Missile Projection, Missile Bombardment as mentioned. Bay launching accellerator or some such - I'm not in game, but there's a rig which will give you some bonus to missile velocity. Wiki is down at the moment, but most of the Caldari missile boats will have a bonus to missile velocity and/or rate of fire - the missile velocity will give you more range (Caracal and Raven have this, not sure about the Kestrel).
Use standard missile launchers, which will launch light missiles.
Long Range Targeting will help you target enemies further away, but won't make the missiles actually travel that far.
