The IGB is a POS as of right now (I hope shiva fixes it), so I'm posting this here. IGB just resets my form, I'm tried of trying to make it work.
Quote:
I've petitioned this under an exploit, but GM Xhagen didn't feel it was urgent and closed my petition, telling me to petition here. Knowing that "other" petitions don't have a very high proirity I e-mailed Kieron, but it's been a week, and I guess he didn't feel there was any importance to my problem either. I feel let down by CCP and staff, I know it's a great company, have seen many instances of a great team on the forums, so as a last attempt by a paying costumer I've decided to send in an "other".
On the 12th of September, I was doing agent missions, and went to dock. Outside the station was a known pirate (ando) of the area, I've seen him many times and didn't think he was a threat, so I hit my 10mn ab and was with-in docking range, and it gave the message "docking is progress". Next thing I know ando was blasting me (with a smart-bomb I can only guess from the kill-mail). I thought no problem, I'll dock before he gets to my pod. And I sit, and I wait. No docking happening. I get worried, see my ship pop, and keep clicking to dock. I just keep getting "Docking in progress". So then my pods been popped, my full set of implants gone, a new clone needed, my bounty gone, and 2 missions failed.
This wasn't my fault, it was a failure in the game mechanics. I sat for over 10 seconds just in my pod waiting to dock, and then even longer when I was still in my kestrel waiting to dock. I feel cheated. I should have my bounty restored, my corpse taken away from ando and out of the game, my implants put back (I have since bought a new perception one because I have frankly given up on getting an answer that will benifit me). The failed agent missions is just an inconvinence and I can live without having them fixed or having my kestrel back.
*Petiton*
Ok, I had finished a agent mission and went to pee while docking, I came back to find Ando firing at my kestrel, I was 1500m away from the station and docking wasn't working?
So i'm like no sweat, he's not even hitting me, and i'm right there.
I get the message "Docking in progress" but i'm not docking, he just keeps hitting me, gets a few hits in and my kest is dead.
Then i'm worried, my pod, with a full set of implants. He starts to fire at it. So iclick to dock, a few times, i'm worried. And I just get the same message.
Then he podded me, while docking was in progress.
I've got my log but it won't allow me to paste it here. I'd like to be refunded, this is a fualt of game mechanics and not my own. (the kessie was, the pod wasn't).
I just want my implants back, and my bounty. I'd also like my corpse taken away from Ando as he didn't properly kill me, but I was bugged.
Sorry about the troubles, hope your having a better day then me.

If you click dock before your ship is done with warping completely this happens. Dont click dock before you see the speed indicator drop down. Same thing for jumping

Accept gang invite while approaching stargate. Try and jump through gate some only to see "Not finished talking to gang".
It sickens me.

It happened in pvp, which lessens the chance of getting stuff replaced. In best case you will get your implants back, nothing else. (bounties are never going to be replaced)

Had this one a couple days ago in Amarr with a war enemy hot on my heels. Couldn't dock, but managed to warp elsewhere before he locked me, so no harm done. Just intensely annoying.

It's definitely problem with session change. This message was removed from EVE client but still does exist. Problem is that your requests aren't queued. Practically you can't click on dock when you warp it fire session change and you are in deadlock. You need wait at least 15 seconds before you can hit dock again.
Problem is when session is in progress you are still vulnerable to environment. You can be targeted you can be fired upon. Its terrible situation because you can do nothing even try warp out or maneuver because "session in progress" prevent you control your ship.
I see this as cheap solution to session progress bug, simply by hiding it. I'm afraid that CCP can do zilch about it because this is "cluster synchronization" problem and can't be solved because it's based on design. At least they could implement that "session in progress" would condom your ship against environment. Or at least queue commands for your ship so you wouldn't need fire same command over an over again.

Soren, the whole session change thing is bugged beyond any recognition and every attemp of CCP "to strengthen" it made it only worse. They simply increased the timers...
Ever tried to jump through a gate short after you got in gang or to jump through a gate while you are still coming out of warp? A buddy of mine has been told by the GMs that it takes up to 20 minutes before a gate allows you to jump (in 0.0 that is).
So regardless of your petition working or not, don't expect anything, you will get disappointed.

It has something to do with the stuck character bug.
Before, you could seriously jack yourself and be stuck at stations or 'between' systems after you jumped or docked or accepted gang invites right after you came out of warp or right before you jump systems.
So the timers were increased and supposedly the amount of stuck characters dropped dramatically.
Eventually, they will probably shore up what is causing the problem and the timers might be shortened again, but probably not any time soon. --------------------------------------------------

Yes exactly and especially it's problem when you getting to be killed, because you going to loose your ship and enter pod "session in progress" start. You can't warp out or try move your ship because you just setting your belts in new ship.
I can share one trick with you that will prevent you from future loose of implants. It's autopilot what can save your ass. If you know that you will loose ship then quick set your AP to any system outside of your actual system and switch autopilot on.
AP will immediately warp out your pod, as pod appears that would save you if you will be fast in programming of your autopilot.

Rather it is as it happens now rather than that annoying "Change Session" message that used to appear. You still couldn't do what you needed to and also had to click away the idiot message.
Just take a couple of seconds when you drop out of warp and you'll be OK.
Dunno about replacement though - everyone is playing on the same field, so would think it unlikely.

To get round the "wait til u drop out warp b4 hitting dock" thing, while u are in warp tell it dock at the station ur travelling to. As soon as u drop outta warp it will dock for you. Quite handy as u can never get it wrong then
As for instas to gates, still havent found a way to avoid this, except watching the speed bar til it moves, then telling it to jump.

The fact that he gets the message before poppin "docking in progress" indicates clearly that he was shot down after he docked....it also indicates that he hit "dock" an second time before he exploded....its clearly an bug in my opinion...if the game tells you that you are docking the should be no way to kill you..... Don't ask "can i have your stuff" because i'll give it to everybody else than you! |

Stargate wouldnt let me jump no matter what so I just their and died. If u think someone can just sit their for 10 seconds without doing anything with a ton of isk involved in implants your wrong their gunna be frantic. So this is a damn bug, if not this is a feature? I sure hope not. My petetion was failed too. I got over it but its still something that happens (jumping won't resp0nd) even without a soul around.
I had time enuff to jump about 5 times and it still wouldnt let me manually jump or autopilot jump.
It states that if your autopilot is engaged and you are targetted by an enemy that the autopilot disables, but it doesnt cause if u hit autopilot agian it wont jump it gives me a (jumping to system sound) but it doesnt jump then if u manually try you get the same thing.

I almost had the same problem, got out with all my armor gone. I appears the sesion change is a really common problem. I am extremely hesitant to use the thing in combat because of this. I tested at a gate in the empire, I waited at a gate for 50 seconds before it jumped through.

There is NO DOCKING / JUMPING BUG...
It is all in our minds, it is all in our minds ...
CCP ...... act mature and take responsibilty for errors in the game expecially when people are sitting at stations / gates for up to 50 secs still trying to dock / jump.
Also when people try to help and send you the client side logs, please turn of the auto message "our server logs are not a detailed as the client side logs" and "we don't accept client side logs due to them being a text file".
Maybe remove the client logs as there wasting local disk space if they are no use to anyone and maybe log docking / jumping server side.
Sort it and get you head out of the sand ...

Edited by: Avon on 21/09/2004 11:01:32 I lost a fully fitted Apoc and a full set of implants to this, didn't even bother petitioning.
I would have set my autopilot to save my pod but the UI had already vanished so all I could do was watch.
Still annoyed about it, but what can you do?
It isn't the losing stuff that really bothers me, it is the frustration of just sitting there and not being able to do anything.

Uh, nasty stuff. I've had problems like this too many times. Only way to avoid it is to wait for signal from the speed indicator like Speknek stated. Only other solution is warping away and try again. As you tricked me into paying 50 mill for 50 small arms I think I've donated more than enough to your "support box".

Yeah, it has been bugrep'd - don't expect an admission of the problem until they have a fix though. ______________________________________________

should be ALL that is required for the petition to be granted.
You'd think so, but once I was podded in 0.0 _while on autopilot_. So in my case there wasn't any clicking dock/jump too early problem. I was in a rifter, mwd'd to the gate, and then sat there with 'Autopilot jumping' messages filling up my log while my ship was destroyed and then I was podded.
I even took a screenshot of the log window when I was sitting in my clone station a minute afterwards, and posted it for the GM (who did look at it btw, checked the logs). I figured it might help my petition because a screenshot with their translucent windows should be harder to fake, and in such a short time too.
Anyway, I lost a head full of implants, and if I didn't win my petition after that, then you unfortunately don't have much hope :( All I got was a recommendation to use insurance and to take out a clone contract. Thanks, but I did have one of those.

yep the "cant navigate while warping" and then 10-30 seconds of unresponsiveness isnt a bug, i think its a session change lag reduction or something, i have gotten podded at an insta for trying to jump too soon, and you cant do anything once you get the server side session started. cant eject, turn around, anything. i think its the same thing as when you change ships, designed to reduce server load.
since then i have timed this at gates and stations by purposely trying to jump/dock while decelerating from warp, and the unresponsivness can last anywhere from 10-30 seconds, and i havent found any workaround but to make sure your not still warping before you give a docking or jumping command.
now the fact that you hit your afterburners, and then docked makes me thing you didnt have a station bookmark, so i dont know what happened to you.
and dont call ganksters pirates. there is a difference.

Edited by: Soren on 21/09/2004 23:08:08 Thanks for all the replies. There is obviously a problem and as usual CCP is unwilling to admit it.
I feel like I'm being ignored. The GM just dismissed me, Kieron won't respond, and after this thread there's been no word from anyone that actually matters (No offence to you people ment ).
I'm not expecting there to be any positive response, but no response at all is worrying me. Do they not even care about the customers? That can't be true, they sent Winterblink an awesome card and poster, and they have been one of the best teams I've seen, maybe that's what bothers me the most.
Are they just going to ignore me and hope I go away? Why do they refuse to answer? _________________________________________________________

Good luck to you, I hope they finally listen to you. Too bad you can't charge them for all your time and effort trying to communicate with them. If this is customer service... Customer service world wide has sunk to new lows and in my opinion here at Eve and CCP is an example of the lowest of the low.
But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong. |

Edited by: Acix on 22/09/2004 01:26:33 the following does not include the process to make a bug happen. It just describes my run in with it and that some of my testing proved there was a bug that could be exploited. I do not describe how to use this bug to any advantage. That was forwarded to CCP. They know exactly how it happens and how to reproduce it at will. So please do not chop up my post.
I call this the "jump lock bug". I lost 2 battleships to this bug. A gedon and an apoc. One was trying to use an insta jump the second was while i was sitting at the gate (within jump range) and a fleet showed up. I couldn't jump and while my ship was being ganked by 10 battleships the first time (not counting other ships) and 5 battleships the second time. The second time i set the autopilot to jump into the system i was trying to get into. Well it didn't work either. I have tons of emails back and forth from CCP about these two losses.
Well I did some investigating and found that a specific bug came up on both of the battleships i lost. Both times a smartbomb (the smartbomb isn't the cause of the bug it just started me thinking there might be a bug here) from another ship hit me before i tried to jump. For some reason or another it sent me into the session change bug.
Anyway I found the entire reason why it happened both times. The both times i lost my ships the people didn't even know they caused it. Some people were using this as a tactic because they figured it out also (not naming names) and still might be using it. I tested it dozens of times and got it to the point where i could make it happen each time without any real effort.
SO I submitted a bug report about it. Nothing has happened since. I have yet to hear back about anything on the bug or my ships. I didn't include my complete test report with all the figures I just told them about it and how it could be duplicated. They didn't seem interested enough to want the rest of the facts. BUT in the last patch they did include a change with the gates that makes it so you can't use a smartbomb within a certain distance. Again this is not the cause for the bug but there is a reason why they did make this change.
You would think that proving there was a bug would make them do something. But you along with myself would be wrong. Even with the fact that they put a change to the gates in the last patch trying cut down the exploitable nature of this bug. We are still wrong and by actions they have made it seems they don't feel its a bug that will cause ship replacement.
The bug i found by testing isn't the cause for every single "session change bug" that happens. But without knowing how it works people cause this to happen while engaging in PVP. The actual session change bug is easy to avoid if you try hard enough at it. The bug that is NOT avoidable is the "jump lock bug".
Do not ask how to make this bug happen. Because I will not tell you. Thats how this post will get killed and you would not know that there is actually a bug in the game. |

i've had this bug too lost my covert ops frig and covert ops cloak approached the gate cloaked expected it to decloak me at 2.5k from gate but it didn't tried to jump it said i was still cloaked so i uncloaked and tried to jump and got jump in progress. Petitioned and they said they could not find any problems with the server or in the log so they couldn't replace. What a surprise. I'm not whinning about it now i'm over it but it still really ****es me off they don't take any responibilty for the bug in their game.

I had nearly the exact same thing happen to me only I didnt just warp to a station. I had undocked and stopped my ship near the entrance. I have done this many times to "scout" the station. Well 20 ships show up an lock me. No biggie...just hit dock and enter....nope. Not only did I not dock, the menu selection for docking disappeared!.. I tanked it out for about 30 seconds or so before I popped all the while desperately trying to get the damn dock function to work. When my pod appeared I thought..no big just dock. The dock option never returned and poof go the implants. I sent several explanations to the GMS and they essentially told me it was just too bad. That blows azz as far as Im concerned. I have never had to petition for anything before other than a stuck character for the year and a half that I have played Eve and they immediately thought I was lying about this. Not what I would call good customer service.

It's a PITA bug that's been around for ages. I'm surprised you've never come across it before if you've regularly been using insta-bm's on agent missions/pvp.
If you forget to wait for your speedo to drop down after coming out of warp and try to dock/jump there's a few solutions:
1) Warp to another celestial object and wait for "Warp Drive Active" to appear and your ship changes direction. Cancel the warp them re-attempt the dock/jump.
2) Warp away completely and come back.
Personally, I'm glad you died, lost your implants, and lost the faction standings from your agent mission because you're nothing but a griefing pirate!
Oh, wait, damn. I'm posting with Joshua Calvert and not my alt, Bhaal.
I think you should get your stuff back; implants, standings, and that Harpy BPO I loaned you *wink wink nudge nudge*

I have lost several million isk due to this bug......once i was 15k away from a staion...saw 5 bogies warp in, knew i was dead so i approached the station...didnt get there in time to save my raven but was right on top of it to save my pod....so there was no "delay" in waiting to try and dock....but lost my pod and implants anyway....funny thing is, it only seems to happen at the worst opportune times....maybe it has something to due with the lag problem that hasnt been fixed in over a year despite CCP's claims..and CCP's apathy doesnt help either. On one particular pettition, they claimed no knowledge of the bug, but after more responses from me they actually admitted it (I'm thinking by mistake)....so I agree with others and the only conclusion that i have is that they will never openly admit it until they have a fix....problem is, that could take some extended amount of time considering the problem. As paying customers we deserve the right to a response from tham and also the right to have them reimburse us for their inadequacies. This is their fault , not ours, why should we have to pay the price for their incompetence.
