Originally by: Lindsay Logan Maby, maby not. But this is kinda the edge on abuse of game mechanics imo.
Why?
Everyone can use it, there are counters, it is dectable and so on.
Or do people think this is an abuse because it needs skills and some preparation?Successful PvP is more than F1, you know.
Using the grid to your advantage is nothing new, it is old. People just normally not talk about it, they call it great FCing instead

Based on that doc, and if I were to guess: because some other object is the primary place-holder ù be it a sentry gun, a billboard, an asteroid spawn point or some other static item.
I'd go with this. Presumably if one of the sentry guns or whatever got loaded by the server before the gate/station itself then that would become the grid centre.

Omg, I has to press more then one button!! I did not know that.
This mechaninc is stupid tbh, it makes no sense that one should be on same grid, with a shadow grid inbetween. In a realisitc sense that is (why should you see an objet 10k km away, and the guys 500km away not?). And I doubt this was intended as a feature.
No, CCP should do some work on grid mehcnaincs.
Now, I would agree with you if this was an intended feature to be used in such a fashion. But I highly dbout it is.

Poor attempt a dmg control from CCP here....
Guess it isn't too tempting to start reworking grid mechanics

While I must say the documentation provided is quite nice and well done, this is something which in one way or the other has been abused for years and years. From time to time it surfaces to the public eye and CCP moves reports around the forum, but that is about it.

That explains the old broken rats that could be 1000+km away and still "on-grid."
Rats were creating pocket grids.

Another one + me did this grid thing on sisi some years ago.
We managed to go 10k km right up from the main station in FD- on Sisi and still see the station and the players.
So this have been in EVE for a looooong time.

Logoffski maybe, still with aggro timer, back in 05 that got somewhat fixed. However, jetcan mining? Sorry but that's GOT to be a game mechanic. Plus, if there are things that you don't like about Eve, click HERE because it will help. |

A feature can be a game mechanic and still have unintended ways of being used without being bannable. Jetcan mining was not a ccp intended use of the jetcan feature afaik.

I was thinking of making a thread named "Why do grids move?", but I don't have to now. My theory of grid movement was wrong, this however is right.

Yes:

Strategically placing items in grids around POS towers for the purpose of hiding the towers is an exploit and action will be taken against those found doing it.
Re-read what you quoted. I bolded the important part.
Grid manipulation itself has not been declared an exploit.
