Okay, I know that ambulation is almost done, but this is something else.
Whenever I am docked inside a station, I cannot fail to notice that in many stations there are numerous other docking platforms near the one I'm on. There are also huge access corridors for ships.
Yet nothing ever docks there, except for my own ship.
Why not add some simple animations, showing other ships coming in, docking, going out again, maybe refueling, moving cargo and so on? I know it is just eye candy, but it would add a lot to immersion, because stations would actually look and feel busy.
Of course it would be best, if actual events would have an influence. So if someone docks with a Hyperion, a Hyperion could slowly glide past in the background.
If you have containers in a station, there could be visible cargo containers, standing around the place.

I agree that this would help immersion, but you would have to let people turn it off to reduce lag if u wanted. _______________________________________________

Alright! More lag. It is an idea and I like that you are thinking about neat additions. I just worry about performance.
Then too, I have a friend who is really big into NASCAR. He sits at his desk with a webcam opened on his desktop so that he can watch the inspection garages and presumedly the cars roll in and out. The view features hours and hours of nothing happening. Maybe they could set it up so that the view changes slightly from docking to docking but is not constantly moving. This would be more realistic ..like NASCAR.. =====

I like this idea. Also, I do not think that some simple animations or even static 'docked ship' images would increase lag much if at all.

regardless of the lag that may be induced, it'd be a welcome addition to the community i believe.

If this is just eye candy for the sake of it then it can be done client side and should generate no lag on the server.

All in-station animations would be client-sided, as long as it's just random animations and has nothing to do with the outside. That means no lag.

Edited by: SpawnSupreme on 15/12/2008 12:21:42 if you saw players pass buy the coridors that be super cool but what be interesting is when you see an enemy ship undock you know what he is leaving in or you could be seen leaving making some of the suprise out of the equasion even tho you would have to keep eyes pealed and you would have to be quick on your reactions.
but that be super cool to see robotic arms refiting your ship and if you moving cargo from station to cargo hold some sort of visual display hehe this would make passing time in station more pleasant if you are station camped and afraid to undock hehe.
oh and how about this CRAZY idea..... if you are in station and cant undock and dont plan on going anywhere for an hour but you wanna play eve have singularity server linked to stations..... how is this??? easy!!! have a flight simulator in station if you activate flight simulater it simply idles tranquility server and links you to singularity server and if you exit out of sigularity, traquility will unidle and run normal... this can be done cuz i have seen it in other games!!!
for those of you who think it causes lag your wrong lag is causes by maping.... anything that is in motion causes lag if it is a visual display it will not be maped missiles ships drones and things that are not static in space cause lag cuz its all seperatly being maped.

Can't be done here because TQ and Sisi use different versions of the client and have different versions of the database (Sisi is behind).
Fixing that would mean Sisi isn't a testserver anymore, but just another section of TQ.

Yay for more graphics variety. I wouldnt put to much emphasis on the graphics quality of these ships though maybe the equivalent of a zoned out view. As it is I usually have a bunch of windows open so i dont see to much anyway.

so cool to add singularity to stations so you can bring life and action to the inside of a station LOL gotta love it!!! this would work but thy would have you drop singularity as an independant server to keep everything updated and flowing properly hehe.
but its not bad idea cuz stupid singularity is mirrored so often and so many updates and the trouble you have to go through to update singularity to play.
i say yes lets perdy up the inside of station let there be some activities!! woot...

This would add a lot to the overall feel of the stations being a hub for activity instead a ghost station thats haunted with you and your crew being the only idiots who decided to dock there to "check out the distress signal...but somehow no one is home...hmm...wonder what happened here."
Lol, thats thinking a bit to much into it but seriously, the docking platforms in most stations are lifeless places that make you think of some even horizon stuff going on. The sky was blue but there was no god. |

/signed on obvious idea. altho minmatar and caldari station interiors have a personal hangar type look, you can see out to a sort of "hallway", i.e. the docking corridor. Ships should fly past out there. And in the gallente station interior, there should be other ships visible. Come on, it IS a bustling space station.
An expansion to the idea: Base the amount of the background traffic on the number of people in the system (or station (or both)). ~ THIS IS A ~ ~ SIGNATURE! ~ Putting the MM in the MMO! |
