Don't know if this has been said, but how can I test new setups if my SiSi char has less skillpoints. |

Originally by: Herschel Yamamoto I think the reason that they don't is fear that people will ignore the real server and choose to only play the test server. If you can get 100 million SP a month on Sisi, some people will abandon the slow grind of TQ in favour of the instant gratification of Sisi. That said, I don't think that fear is especially justified - how many people get a game, and then never turn off the cheat codes? Sure, you'll play around with them, but then you go back to something that actually involves accomplishment.
Also, in a similar vein, research and construction time on Sisi should be lowered dramatically.
Well, where there is will there is a way.
Some things that can be considered to reduce worries of abuse:
* Only allow a certain amount (percentage of your real SP) to be trained instant or extremely fast. Also make a reset option to revert to your real skills so people can try out different new content!
* Set a minimum 'online' level to make sure it is an active player on the live server. I am not sure CCP has all these statistics but it should not be too hard to get something that serves the same purpose.
My favorite option would be option one as this allows players to test things that are beyond their reach or not even live yet. But not do so in a disproportionate way! This fully removes any abuse of new players dogfighting in titans or whatever! |

The issue was voted on and received support for escalation. So hopefully we will get an answer in a month time or whenever the next CSM-CCP session is.

At the very least this could be used to get your skills up to date with what your character has on Tranquility so you can properly test out some setups.

They shouldn't let it be any different than the main server. The whole point is to test how changes would affect current game dynamics. If everyone could speed train or have access to all skills, no one would be using what they would be regularly using in game so nothing would get properly tested.
All they need to do is mirror more often for things to match up.

At the very least, give us the ability to mirror our character from tranquility on command instead of once in a blue moon.

Edited by: Raging Taurus on 05/11/2008 20:10:52 Great idea...After all, a test server is intended to test different 'options' before investing time (and thus money) on TQ - having to wait as much as on TQ to train for skills doesn't help at all, especially since different options might need different skills. Some skills could be really long too; just think about wanting to try 2 - 3 carriers before going for one on TQ.
Facilitating testing will also benefit CCP as players are more likley to identify bugs quickly.
So full support to any option which would significantly decrease the time needed to acquire skill levels on test servers

Edited by: Von Kleist on 19/01/2009 19:23:44 I dont know if this has been mentioned yet, but could there be the possibility of using your characters sp total as a bank, and spending them on skills to test out the new things introduced that you normally wouldnt have specialized training for? Could just reset the skills at each update for mirroring.

Propsosed solution: Change the forumla for skill training time on sisi only.
Normally rank1 skill lvl 1 takes X time. lvl 2 takes X^N. Lvl 3 Takes X^N^N. etc...
Just change the value of N to 1. So lvl 1, lvl 2, lvl 3, lvl 4 and lvl 5 of a skill all take the same amount of time as lvl 1 does on TQ.
This would mean that you can do lvl 5 of a rank 10 skill in about 30 hours hours (6+6+6+6+6). You can do lvl 5 of a rank 1 skill in about 90 minutes. etc...
This would mean that it would not signifigantly reduce "annoyance" skills that you need lvl 1 or lvl 2, but it would cut 5 days out of doing a "prerequisit" skill. It would cut (for example) 42 days out of training jump drive calibration 5.

It's quite annoying being new to the game and getting my ass handed to me when I try to test new fits by people who are 3 years old+...this will make it even.
And, I get to try out the shiny titans! Oooo...shiny...*BOOM* ----------------------------------- "What can go wrong, will go wrong." |

Edited by: TomParad0x on 01/03/2009 22:54:22 I agree with this, in fact, there is another relevant post having to do with this here: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1011490
where I have posted quite a bit in. Also providing the idea for the +whatever skill implants to make it faster (NOT instant, but FASTER).
I feel this would benefit testing, and should *AT LEAST* be tested so we can have, without a doubt, an answer as to weather or not this will be bad or good for testing, rather than just guessing it will be bad or good.

Edited by: Here4TheKill on 08/03/2009 07:43:59 How about an alteration to the character sheet skills tab, an added drop-down box, to where you can alter the level of the skill, for say learning purposes and formulas. You set the (skill) to the desired level but still have the option to train skills. instead of modifying how fast the skills train, give a dual ability to affect their level. As for testing learning times try this scenario, you set all of the learning skills to either untrained or 1, pick a skill, say spaceship command, set it to level 1. Now, test the training and other effects on the skills time, this would give you the option to just test the times easily or jump straight into different situations. Bug hunting would be much more efficient and with the added ideas of resets or other possible "freeloading" players with titan dances, testing of new changes would be incredibly accurate. This along with the devoted or logically thinking players would create very detailed and well rounded ship configurations and enable inexperienced players to also find their niche in the game.
Edit: tired, poor sentence structure, and my jumbled ideas. Enjoy

Forget it, They talked about this issue a while ago, and could not even be bothered to post the results, I had to evemail a CSM Member to get them.
and his reply was something along the lines of.
sorry we didn't post about this. Erm. we forgot. DEVs don't want this, were not doing it. (they don't want the database changed for any reason on TQ > Sisi) (Guess they forgot about POS's)
