First off, I sure couldn't find any announcement of this apparent change, but it appears that 30 day and 90 day GTC's are history and a 60 day GTC now costs far more than the subscription.
I'm having a hard time figuring out what you want to achieve with creating a massive price differential between different payment methods.
People who don't have the banking/credit card connections for a regular subscription are usually forced to buy GTC's, and now have to pay far more money to play EVE, than those with Creditcards.
Essentially, your charging well-off players less, and broke players more to play the same game.
Are you trying to dry up your GTC for ISK market, with other GTC buyers as collateral damage?

To be fair, CCP did advertise in a few places that 30 & 90 day cards would be being replaced.
The argument they provided, take from it what you will, is that it's to rationalise GTCs from third parties and the 50 & 100 day GTCs you could get from the EVE Online Store, and to update the costs in line with the new current real life economic situation. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation or alliance, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... |

It's been announced and discussed for weeks, possibly even months.
And quite simply, they were looking after their bottom line. Which any decent company should be doing.

got no problem with bottom line, but why charge one customer more than another? that's just wrong... ... _____________________________________ I'm Paper; Rock's fine, nerf Scissors |

I think this has more to do with the can of "in-game economy" worms they opened when they allowed you guys to buy game cards for isk than it has to do with profit.
Although I'm sure profit is nice too.

the issue was with European accounts paying American dollars for GTC instead of the subs in euros iirc
