I need to move a boat-load of Trit to 0.0 to build some freighters in 0.0 space. Currently, my corp uses carriers to move items from high-space to low space but they tend to have more free space in their ship bays then their cargo holds. As such, I was thinking about shipping some industrials down full of ammo and then reprocessing the ammo after they are shipped. Is this a valid plan, and if so, what ammo would you recommend for the best trit refined per isk spent ratio?

Not sure what ammo would be best.
Your plan is valid, but you also need to factor the refinery tax that the 0.0 outpost imposes. 10% seems to be the standard but I have heard it go to as much as 60%.

why not go with something bigger like make shuttles from the trit in High sec then transport them and refine?

Correct. You can only have ammo/cap boosters in the cargo holds.

Not sure how much trit you could actually get into a Carrier run that way, though.

DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING!!
Using Purgatory torps is currently the best way to squeeze trit into a carrier. If I remember rightly you can get about 125M units of trit into a Thanatos.
I would question the sense of moving trit from empire though. I have always found that trit is cheaper in 0.0 due to hauler spawns.

Depends on whether your corporation's manufacturing juggernaut has exhausted the entire regional supply of Tritanium on the market... we've done it a couple times, sucks hard having to actually shoot at those veld rocks, but we've got a Rorqual so most of the time it's actually more cost effective to import the trit than to mine the veldspar when that mining time could be spent on bistot or arkonor.
And corp members report turning in a hauler spawn at least twice a week - got 30m trit and 4m pyerite from one two days ago from a spawn of 4 "Angel Convoy"s... right now, there's 2M trit left in corp hangar. It goes very fast.

Cool, thanks for the info. Is that also the most cost-effective way to move trit? That ammo is significantly more expensive than standard T1 ammo.

If you're doing a long-term move it makes sense to buy the BPO or researched BPC's.

Rorqual if you have the skills & the ship. That's how we move mass amounts of pos fittings & fuel & modules at a time. Building a **** load of shuttles / frigs then reprocessing them (you'll lose a lot) and sticking them in the carrier might be good.
Ratting & reprocessing loot gives bounty + sec boost + salvage + minerals so that might be another viable option. Plus you have a chance of spawnin' a carrier spawn.
But honestly, I think the fuel to jump back and forth probably isn't worth the trit being hauled. Just my opinion though. Good luck with your endeavors.

Having once worked in the order of 800 million trit a week in 0.0 production, odds are it isn't viable to procure the trit out where he lives; there is no option but to procure it from high-sec, because that's the only place where you can find enough quantity.
This is why we need a high-sec ship capable of ore compression.

Well, it's possible to move at least 220m units of minerals in one trip this way, using only the ship maintenance array on a carrier/rorqual, so I reckon it's probably worthwhile.
XL ammo is generally a much better option for mineral compression than battleship size because they each take the same amount of time to produce, but 1 batch of XL uses about 6 times the volume of minerals.
If anyone would like me to do some compression for them, please get in touch - once I get set up, I could theoretically shift up to 7.5bn units of minerals per month. |

Thank god for you I am a 0.0 logistics specialist. If you are serious about 0.0 you will need a JF or a normal freighter with a JB highway.
1) Buy Passive Targeter I BPO (15 of them shall do) and research to ME50/PE10, or ME100/PE10 if you will. Doing so will take approx. 7 days per BPO. This is one time job obviously but it pays. 2) Once the research is done build 14,000 Passive targeters, If you have 15 BPO, that would be 933 per BPO. This will take just a little over 3 days for the entire batch. 3) 14,000 Passive targeters equals to 175mil of trit. That would be 350,000 m3, which is less than my Rhea can haul. A Charon can haul up to 38,000 targeters, which is 475mil trit (4,5mil m3 before compression!!!) and 950,000 m3. 4) Haul the targeters to 0.0
You will need a character with Scrap Metal Processing 5, Cybernetics 5, and the Beancounter 'H60' implant in its head, and naturally a refinery outpost. This all together will yield you a 100% refining yield, and you won't lose even 1ISK after you re-process them.
My character did all of this solo. You will need empire operations. Halada has JF4, Jump Cal 5, which helped tremendously.
You will lose ISK during manufacturing. The amount hovers around 1mil ISK per batch of 14,000 targeters.
I've spent 95% of my EVE career in 0.0 and found myself responsible quickly with heavy logistics. This above is my most proven method and I share it with you now because I no longer am in 0.0 and you are not likely to be a competitor of mine :D

I know what a freighter is, I know what a jump freighter is, but what exactly is a "a normal freighter with a JB highway"? How can a standard freighter (like an Obelisk) use cynos?

Jump Bridge network using POS jump bridges. Or the use of a titen to move the freighters. For real 0.0 alliances these are a must.

Sensor Booster I's, while being purely trit, have worse compression than the Purgatory Torps.
905.4 trit / m3 for the Sensor Booster I vs 1196 trit / m3 for the Purgatory Torps
The best t1 item that can be built are the Tachyon Beam / 425 Rail / 1400mm Howitzer @ 2049 trit / m3
