Edited by: Elseer Radak on 02/02/2008 10:43:33 Edited by: Elseer Radak on 02/02/2008 10:42:42 All,
I would like to see an ORE command ship - something that could be used in the empire as well as null sec. I envision the ship filling the following niche with the following attributes:
1) Price and skills in line current command ships 2) Training time in line with current command ships 3) Can be used in Empire or in Deep Null sec 4) Based off the Covetor (like the Hulk is) 5) Able to reliably tank null sec rats with shield tanking (I'll let you all debate the best setup for this) 6) does not itself mine, it needs it's three hardpoint for three modules - which it should have a bonus for all three (like current "logistics" class ships do) 7) Has a drone bay that can hold one flight of Sentry drones (125 m3). 8) provides a bonus to Mining Director links and mining drones 9) When destroyed drops salvage inline with current command ships 10) is slow with bad agility
I envision such a ship working like current command ships currently do in mining operations:
1) Command vessel flies to a belt, sets up a tank for the rats. 2) Command ship deploys it's sentry drones to handle any ebil piwates that show up 3) various mining vessels, haulers, optionally a rorqual etc. warp into the belt for a belt party.
To me, this solves some current issues with Mining:
1) Facilitates ninja mining operations 2) Is both a stepping stone to and adjunct for a Rorqual 3) Is allot more affordable and than a Rorqual and thus may drive more folks to mine in low sec/null sec (As you all know few folks mine ore there - for a number of reasons) 4) Lets Miners act without the current tension between mining parties and pvp folks (who find mining ops shockingly DULL) 5) Operates in empire and in null sec 6) Solves the ever present problem of tanking 3xBS rats without having to buy Gist or other high end shield equipment. 7) Uses skills(Drones, Shield Tanking) that a miner already knows 8) Provides a nice fat, and slow target for folks who come a ganking *___*
Yours,

I like this idea but think the ORE command ship should be able to mine. Maybe 2 lasers. Maybe 3, but without the crazy exhumer bonus.
There should also be an ORE battleship-sized equivalent that can mine better then a hulk.

It is a good idea yet this could easily be ported to the role of an ordinary BC or Cmd Ship for the bonuses to include not only warfare link modules but mining foreman modules as well. Currently as the skills stand, there is hardly any reason to use them. Let me explain.
I have the skills to fly a Hulk with T1 Crystals AND Mining Director 4. The only way that I would not use my Hulk and get into a BC/Cmd with Foreman link modules is if I can provide bonuses to 8 or more miners. Any number of miners less than 8 loses total output than 9 miners.
If they were to port the mod bonus of the BC/Cmd to Foreman links or provide a skill in which the Link modules bonus would increase (have Warfare Link Specialist apply to Foreman links as well) so that it would only require minimum of 4 miners and one booster present to have a higher than break-even output, then it would be worth the time it takes to learn that skill.

Edited by: Thera Romana on 12/02/2008 21:02:42 A mining command ship needs to be a combat ship, its your security to allow the miners some peace.
Right now Director is the only command skill that doesnt have a T2 battle cruiser.
If you want to make it look like a hulk, fine. But it needs to have weapons slots, not strip miners.
If you want to mine with it use miner II's. But the void that needs to be filled is a security role, not more mining lasers. You shouldnt be using a foreman for a group of two ships. Directors should pay off with groups of 4 or more(notice rorqual right now is designed to support 4 hulks)
The rorqual was way to big of a jump price wise. If you look at scale though its not big enough to truly fullfill the role.
MINING vs Combat
Rorqual = carrier/dread Exhumers= BS ??????? = Command ship
The scope should be for large scale ops, Rorqual is in the system. Command ships are in the belts with the miners.
There should be a way to get ore from the mining op located in one belt to the rorqual where ever it's at(yes it can be in one of the belts). Maybe a fighter like system but they move ore vs. fight. These would be assigned to the Command ships like fighters are deligated, the command ship could then have them empty cans and ferry back to the Rorqual.
The rorqual needs to be beefed up to match its price, but a command ship does need to be invented.
By the way, a maxed out director only needs 4 miners working for him to break even, at 5 and above he is worth his weight in gold.
Director 5 Warfare links 5 Mining mind link
22.5% bonus to your miners, yee haw

It sounds like you want a Hulk mkII that can't mine but can tank more....otherwise known as a battle cruiser.
I really don't see any purpose for Ore Command Ship.

Actually, the Orca should get into the game first. That's the Empire Version of the Rorqual... --- This is your Captain speaking. Thank you for flying with our spaceline. Please remain seated until the ship has completely burned out. Thank you. |

You need to work on those skills then. Also, the Mining Foreman Mindlink is your friend. Maxed out skills can get you a 22.5% bonus to cycle time, so if you have 5 people, you would be better off in a BC than a hulk. More than five miners, and it's a real no-brainer. Also consider that many ops require a tank as well, and this role can be double filled by the bc pilot.

This apparently is where you fail. Warefare Link Specialist DOES apply to foreman links as well. What doesn't is the current Fleet Command Ship bonuses for race specific warfare links. This is what the ORE command ship would provide... a 'race specific' bonus to foreman link effectiveness.

It would be unfortate to see someone train exhumers to 5, and then have to hop into a ship that did not allow them to mine.
