Yeah we have gone through all that, had all the swap ISP comments etc,we know what the problem is, no need for any more speculation at long last, have stood our ground, and are finally getting something done. They need feedback now to see if it's working. Thanks

Thanks for keeping us updated, Snaith. Fingers crossed, but not holding my breath. Friday to Monday seems to be their worse times so we will see.
Incidently, for those of you who DO want to leave tiscali and can't get through on their phone line, just send a complaint email via the 'contact us' section of the homepage, tell them that you can't get through by phone and ask that they email your MAC code to you.
It also seems that virgin adsl (not cable) are starting to do the same as tiscali so be carefull where you move to.

Dial up is not affected.
Yes we are starting to hear Virgin is testing it's traffic shaping software. It is worth finding out who owns the ISP you are moving to, Tiscali has aquired quite a few this year.

Well done Tiscali, your imcompetence shows through brightly as always. The fix has broken my connection in high traffic hours, I applaud you. The thing is, it only recently started to happen (about a year ago now), and it was obviously a port that was what was being blocked, but no, Tiscali decided to not unblock it again, they've decided to leave it blocked and pretend to release fixes.
I have no idea what kind of customer service Tiscali endorses, but they certainly don't provide a high rating one. It amazes me how long it takes to fix, over a year of fixing with their supposed technical expertise means they have hired monkeys or there has been a corporate decision to keep port 26000 blocked and throttled for no apparent reason.
Nice one Tiscali! I'll remember to analyse each ISP thoroughly next time to make sure they provide a true unlimited broadband service. ---

I thought id reactivate my eve online character from 1 year ago , after playing Wow, I got home sick
I used to be on NTL for 4 years, then moved to a Tiscali a year ago. any way to cut the long story short ive spent 2 bloody wasted night of my time thinging why i could not connect to eve online, then found out its my Tiscali Connection,
If the problem is not solved With Tiscali within 24 hours ill be requestin mac address and, switching supplier as my connection is used mostly at nights for eve online which i miss.
I hope there will be a fix but from what ive read i dont think there will from the promises ive read , ill just be another lost customer on there list hopefully there will be soon enough lost customers for them to get there monkeys to fix this problem. to give other Tiscali users less head aches.

Well its 2045 and I havent been able to connect for half an hour now. I realise they didnt say they had fixed it, merely that they had tried changing some configurations, but we have heard this before and things simply dont get better.
Remember, if you want to get your MAC from tiscali, do it via complaints email NOT on the phone. You will end up paying another months subscription in bloody phone bills if you try their appaling customer phone line.

I had Tiscali for over 2 years now. I have experienced disconnects for a few times and it seems to be getting worse. For about 2 weeks now i am unable to connect between 6 and 11 pm. This is their fair usage policy time window. I phoned them and they denied everything related to port blocking.Their customer reps get quite agitated and verbal when u try to challeneg them in any way. I told them that you dont need a high speed broadband internet service to play eve, it does not use much bandwith and therefore they should leave it alone. I am still waiting for any constructive replies after sending messages to the support centre. It is very annoying not being able to play eve in the evening when u have free time.

It seems that eve is not being blocked under their fair usage policy.
Not sure what the actual reason is, but their T&C say they should fix all faults within 28 days. This hasn't happened. Whatever the reason the bottom line is we can't play eve.
EDIT - yeah I reported it on the tiscali forum a few minutes back

I notice SL They have already said it's their shaping software in the support thread and it's bundling ours in the same with p2p, they know what the problem is, they are now trying to unthrottle Eve packets.

some of us work for a living and like to go on eve at peak times, its the only time i can relax when the kids have gone to bed.

Edited by: Snaith on 12/12/2007 21:53:35 I just tried pingplotter and the port is wide open to Eve, so the fix to their shaping software is not working.

I dont' understand why you guys are still bothering with this? Request your mac address and go to another isp. This is rediculous. The only one who is suffering because of this is you. Help yourself. Leave. Tiscali doesn't care even a slight bit.

Agreed. Whilst I see your logic in taking a stand, Snaith, it could also be sending a message to tiscali that they can treat their customers like dirt and we will still pay for it. At the end of the day it's all about money. Until the cost of loosing customers outweighs the cost of fixing the problem nothing will be done.

The voting with feet was tried 12 months ago with Tiscali, all that happened was they let Tiscali off the hook, nothing changed, the voters were instantly forgotten, and we know Eve is losing people to this problem.
We also have other ISPs now introducing the same system, and why not Tiscali gets away with it so why can't they.
So it will come to the point that it is the norm rather than an exception. We have people in contracts that can't leave, see other posts on Tiscalis T & Cs.
Don't forget that it does not just affect Eve, how many people think their consoles don't work online because the game won't connect, they don't have an easy way of checking where the problem is,like pc users.
But the main thing is Tiscali is buying up ISP's like there's no tomorrow, others are/will introduced same features/throttling, so where will it end ?
Do you try to get people aware of it now or sleep your way into the dilema of trying to find a good ISP when all have introduced this policy.
Is it not also a very iffy way of marketing "unlimited" services, that have more clauses than the xmas shopping mall. It's like having the unlimited use of a car with no petrol.
We have tried lots of things, this is another one of them.

Perhaps CCP should seriously consider expanding into becomming an ISP themselves, dedicated for gamers and specificaly gaming.

From my own experience with tiscali, I would be extremely sceptical about any claims of trying to apply a "fix". They are seemingly very very good at saying they are doing things in order to keep people subscribing, but doing absolutely nothing.
The only viable solution to problems with Tiscali is to move on to a proper ISP asap.

It's an absolute disgrace that they're blocking something that doesn't violate their viewing TOS.

Why then am I unable to connect to eve at 4pm today (and I hear it was unavailable yesterday from 5pm, saturday 3pm, sunday 1.30pm)
Reply:-
1) We are not "blocking" the ports, we are managing the bandwidth for certain traffic types. 2) The peak hours you are quoting are for the FUP only. This is not the same thing. Actual network peak times kicks in arround 15:00 when the kiddies get home from school. __________________ Regards
