What OS are you using? Some people have been having problems with it using both XP and Vista, though it seems to be most stable running under XP. Unfortunately I can't really diagnose low-level problems since I'm using a development tool, sorry about that. The sequel will not suffer from such a limitation.
BTW, new release this weekend, waiting on a part for my laptop. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.81 (Updated 4/8) |

I know it may have looked like I've stopped working on this, but rest assured that you are entirely incorrect! I haven't had a chance to do much work on in in the past month due to computer difficulties, but I still plan on completing this game. In fact, As soon as I finish I plan on starting on the sequel.
Anyway, I've had the current version done for almost a month but I was hesitant to release it simply because currently if there's a critical error I have no easy way to fix it, which makes me a sad panda. If you find and such bugs please let me know but understand that I won't be able to fix anything for at least a week. Anyway:
New in Version 0.83
Graphics -Explosions have been added to the Gjallarhorn Doomsday Device Missile detonations -Player-generated laser effects have been improved slightly
Sound and Music -Sound effects have been added for all weapons except lasers -Explosion sound effects have been added -Music has been added to an optional version of the game. The music constists of clips from two songs composed by Alienhand: --Hunting Stardust (Plays during missions) --Yellow Substance (Plays during menus)
Ships and Missions -Mission 8 has been added to the game -Minmatar Ships now have a built-in speed bonus: all enemies will be drawn towards the bottom of the screen at a rate of two pixels per frame (approximately the speed at which a battlecruiser travels)
User Interface -The sound and music volume buttons now function as intended
Download Link Version 0.83 - With Music http://eve-files.com/dl/165498 Version 0.83 - Without Music http://eve-files.com/dl/165497 ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

Edited by: Blane Xero on 03/07/2008 16:51:29 Edited by: Blane Xero on 03/07/2008 16:44:45 I just downloaded the "With Music" one and it says at the bottom "No Music" in the version thing.there IS music but it just doesnt show up till you manually set the level, (it starts as showing up at 25, but 25 is actually zero, while 100 is only 50, its complicated, just mess with it, you'll see)
And in missions (i started at mission 8 or 9 mind you) it dissapeared after i killed the first harbinger.
If i kill something while an augoror is repairing it, it starts to repair me instead.
Playing the vexor, i destroyed the abaddon in mission 8 (Guessing thats not supposed to happen since it didnt happen with the thorax) and got this

Wait, so does the music version not have music or vice versa? Or did I just mix up the links? Gah.
Quote: And in missions (i started at mission 8 or 9 mind you) it dissappeared after i killed the first harbinger.
Crap, I fear I may have left some debugging code in or something. What do you mean disappeared?
Quote: If i kill something while an augoror is repairing it, it starts to repair me instead.
Yeah, tis a pretty entertaining bug that will get squished soon. The default AI behavior, in which it defines targets (you, allies or drones) is overridden by the repair code that uses the same target variable. When whatever it's repairing explodes, the old code take back over for a second and immediately retargets to you, at which point the repairer code takes back over and immediately repairs the current target. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

I found that it took ages to load, but it worked anyway.
The taking ages to load is because it's 30 something MB and made with Gamemaker. In fact if I were you I would learn another language and remake this, because Gamemaker is horrible.
As for the game, well, I could write a list... - |

I'm convinced that Gamemaker somehow deoptimizes code to be as slow as possible. Unfortunately a large contributor the the load is the sprites - because I'm using an unregistered version of gamemaker I can't dynamically rotate images, forcing me to 32 different images per sprite (this will be changing in the near future). Multiply this by the number of ships in the game and you quickly start to eat up a lot of RAM in order to play.
Unfortunately I've invested too much effort into it's current platform to do a rewrite, but the sequel will most certainly not be written using GML. As I found out, Gamemaker code doesn't scale well at all. I'll probably be writing the sequel in C# (or maybe C++).
Quote: As for the game, well, I could write a list...
Go ahead, I'm open to criticism. A lot of it may be stuff that's already too entrenched in the code for me to change, but if nothing else it'll reiterate things not to do next time. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

Edited by: JohnnyGoofy on 05/07/2008 19:34:55 Hi, just wanted to try this but then I double click the exe file it just shows "loading... please wait"
After that it uses 100% cpu and keeps expanding the memory usage to about 250mb.
I'm running windows XP x64 bit, is that a problem?
*edit* Nm, i was too impatient :)...didnt expect it to use more than a minute to load a 30 mb game

I'm actually planning on making a sequel, possibly as part of a Computer Science Senior Design project.
I'm trying to work on this one as much as I can, but recently my laptop has been having major issues and that's been interfering with my ability to work on it.
Haven't decided on a name yet, considering giving it an actual serious business name. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

I can help out with writing of this project, would be fun. I'd suggest C++ and direct-draw (or possible even direct3d for top-down graphicsm though would take a lot of work)
