I'm having horrendous problems playing eve on my 64bit Vista installation so i decided to install it on my ubuntu installation using the default linux client / cedega setup. Just when i thought my performance couldn't be any worse, i was getting about 2-4 FPS on ubuntu.
My system is as follows - Athlon 64 3500+ 2GB RAM Geforce 7800GTX
Now i'm no expert on ubuntu so has anyone any advice as to how to improve the performance in ubuntu? 2-4 frames is an absolute joke!

I am, and it's working fine. 7600 GT and it gets ~40 fps in a belt.
My advice would be to make sure desktop effects are off, direct rendering is on (you are using the proprietary drivers, right?) and fancy effects are off (run nvidia-settings and disable everything under Xscreen0->Antialiasing. Then follow the instructions in the fps-improvement guide post at http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=636176 .
It also wouldn't hurt to make sure nothing cpu-intensive is running in the background. I noticed a significant fps drop running WCG projects on the same core as EVE, even though their priority was set to 19.

Edited by: Annowyn on 10/12/2007 08:56:33 I run Eve on 64-bit ubuntu (desktop ofc). I get around ~50 FPS in warp. Better performance all around in ubuntu.
EDIT: Have you checked all your config options to increase FPS? There is a sticky in this forum that holds your hand all the way tru it. :)

playing on 64 bit ubuntu, performance is good even wit Vertical Sync and AA + AF on. no probs here. GPU is gforce 7800 gs on an 64 bit X2 AMD platform.

Also, (this is more for dual core), but you can lower the wine priority and play with those two settings on the general tab. On some systems, lowering wine priority will yield better fps/play as well.
(this is the recommended way of using cedega with taskset and dual cores.)
Getting 2-4 fps indicates something ain't quite right though.

As above.
Also make sure you really, honestly and truly have enabled the Nvidia driver. You can either use the Restricted Driver manager thing in System > Administration or install a newer, shiny version via Envy (google Ubuntu Envy).
The nv driver (the one it uses as default) is good, might well do some really limited 3D stuff these days... but ultimately does not have the functionality of the real nvidia binary drivers.
Also make sure you have set the desktop to be 24bit via whatever applet you do that in... hell if I know, I just edit xorg.conf directly.

Im Currently Running it on a Asus G2s 8600mGT Nvidia Laptop.
I had to make sure i used the Eve-online configuration Utility. Previously in Windows Vista I could run the Trinity Premium HDR Graphics. However in the Linux Unbuntu 7.10 I am unable to download the premium Content and am stuck in Hal3d fullscreen mode. Some minmater Stations will not show Skins graphics and will look hollow. Other than that I am seeing around 40 FPS in space and around 60- 70 in station.
I am currently running the latest version of Envy (released December 07) Both the Unbuntu and Envy are running the Latest GLX New Nvidia Driver (restricted)
Not sure if this is a Xserver issue related to nVidia drivers or The Eve Online Client.

No premium on official client atm. they're working on it (should be done in the first quarter 2008). wine might have it sooner, its kind of working already, but buggy.
for windowed mode, goto the Eve-online configuration Utility, theres a dropdown somewhere where you can choos the resolution (or you can write in the resolution you need). this will only set the resolution for the window, within eve you have to set the same resolution again.

I'm running EVE on 64bit Gentoo 2.6.23. Runs fine, apart from the fact that my GPU is only an nVidia GeForce 7300 Go, which means I only get around 25fps in belts. :( No premium content for me.I am also using a load balancing program between cores, which helps.
