New avatar, so guess I'm reposting like a scumbag.
I really like the way the last avatar's piercings, tatoo and facial features all work together. The jet black with pale skin provides much-needed contrast, whilst the eyes are a nice touch splashing some color into the ensemble, standing out pretty strikingly. So, overall 8.5/10. Generic small-time hero-tackle pilot with no relevance. |

I find myself really liking this avatar. Very much like the "smart casual" look. Not sure if that was intentional or not but she looks all business. Overall would rate 8/10 but I'm stingy with ratings. Free hugs for Amarr holders. No, really. |

Besides the aesthetics (I think Amarr background is a nightmare to work with for posing), a few things spring to mind such as
Why is this Gallente looking at me dark and broodingly? He's clearly trying to McEdginton me, which might explain why he's with the Amarr. But if that's the case, does he realize that the Amarr are a theological, not inherently evil society? Goddamn punk kids will rebel to anything these days, they don't even know what they stand for.
I know I'm over-analyzing, but at least it's evocative if nothing else.

Pretty cute. I actually like the faded lighting in Carbon, seems to produce slightly more realistic results. Or that could be the fact that my point of reference to real life is impending blindness - whatever.
Main qualms are that the character isn't very distinguishing looking and the pose leaves something to be desired.
Whoops should probably not forget my rating. Was going for 7/10, raised it to... 7.5/10 after looking back and noticing there's actually quite a lot of nice work in the make-up/eyes/eyebrows.

Up-nostril shot, awkward lighting around mouth and chin, man-jaw.
That hair is awfully hard to work with, so I'll give that to your credit, personally I think almost every avatar ends up looking awkward with that style, particularly in blonde.
Doesn't look like much thought went into the pose/setting either, so going have to go with a 4~/10.

This current avatar doesn't blend well together. Looks indeed you tried going for the casual look but something went wrong, as it just doesn't work with the sour face, it's almost like she's about to go on a date with someone she dislikes, and has no intention of hiding that fact. The neck also feels unnatural.
That's actually perfectly fine since that's what I was going for. And don't worry about the old Hally avatar, it's coming back when this event is done. ;)
The neck complaint is legit though, I'll see what I can do.
I'm sure that I rated Jandice before. If not, she stands out as one of the avatars with a great sense of persoanlity to me, and smiles well without looking uncanny-valley, so she's a resounding 9/10 for me. As for yourself, you're looking pretty typical Caldari male. Think this one is pretty interesting except for what I suspect is a meshing issue with the hair (looks like the hair mesh is bigger than the skull mesh and sits 'off' the cranium).

Well this iteration is interesting. I personally think that this is one of the few successful attempts at using 1) extreme darkness and 2) goggles. Looking good as usual. I actually like this one more than some of your previous. The expression is nice, the fringe over the eyes is a pleasant change too and works well with the tattoo and the skin tones / blush / lipstick all work very well together. If you look closely there's a small glitter in the eye in the background, which looks nice along with the high lip gloss in the otherwise relative darkness.

You have no eyes, Shi'ki. Not much else to say here. I'd suggest playing with the lighting to take the glare off of the right side of her face.
The lack of color contrast and awkward framing makes this one kind of dull besides the whole 'no eye' thing. The expression is nice, though - and it's conceptually great, could be amazing with work.
7/10.
(Edit:) Ah, damn-it Alice. Still liking this port, but I preferred the old one to be quite honest. Still going to give you an 8, because she's one of the better ones. Dirty heretical mud-child, reporting in. |

@Cynthia Gallente: There's a lot that I don't like here; the colors choice seem like several eclectic elements that have been awkwardly brought together. The jaw looks very blocky because of the lighting, the pose & zoom creates this kind of huge, sweeping forehead look and the sunglasses aren't used effectively and instead just serve to take up most of the face - they're also very unflattering with the shape of her face and nose-bridge. Pose also emphasizes that Gallente giraffe-neck.
I'd angle the shoulder back a bit so it isn't facing the camera so severely, drop the sunglasses and back-drop, throw some more lively blush onto her cheeks and reduce the lipstick, then give her a small head tilt and throw some bright lighting on to her. The result you'll get will be fairly far from unique but should work well for a more tactile thematic.
But obviously these are my tastes so I can't speak for you. 5/10.

Pose needs to be tightened up. The hard light is too much, especially going white/white/hard white light, on a fairly flat face. You could probably make this portrait significantly more interesting by merely striking a pose and throwing some lighting on which brings out her features instead of overwhelming them.
The hard light / hard shadow lighting on her face doesn't do anything for her in this pose, and doesn't make sense on the bright background. I would change the background to something higher contrast on this note.

I have to give you 5/10, or 1/2, in that I'm only rating 1/2 of a head.
More serious - the portrait is amusing and the eyes are fairly expressive. I like the portrait but I'd like to see more of her. If you're going to keep the concept, I'd like to see a background which emphasized her better. Although the 'horn' effect is nice the Amarr background is too busy and draws attention away from the Avatar. 6.5/10. Trading chains for shackles, I am free. |

Composition is no good - colors don't work together, there's no cohesive theme. The lighting chosen is pretty dark and the clothing / character himself are both on the darker side, combined with the distance of the shot, it just doesn't make for a very interesting portrait. Maybe you were going for dark/brooding/somber or something but it doesn't look like that, it just looks like a photographer took a bad photo.

Well done, you've become an excellent folly to my plans for the day. I'm fond of her, although I have a couple of bones to pick;
I like the hair/make-up/piercing composition but you've got this uncanny unnatural look going on. I think it's the lighting. Some lighting sets ups give certain avatars a 'plastic' quality. I'd like to see it tightened up.
Other than that maybe bring her a bit closer. I realize this is a difficult task when you have such a heaving chest to display, but don't be daunted.
Otherwise, the Red Star shirt really just doesn't feel like it fits here. That about wraps it up.
She has potential. 7/10. "To know the true path, but yet, to never follow it. That is possibly the gravest sin" - The Scriptures, Book of Missions 13:21 |
