the highlighted portion above of his first post could be some of the reason for the flames. that makes it look like propaganda. or he had absolutly no idea what he was doing when putting those numbers together. honestly i'm not sure which is worse. it's almost an insult to present this level of a game with players able to do what we do, with such asinine information.
i would suggest leaving the tunxor score off.

Nice idea but numbers and rating need a lot of work. Just simply multiplying trivial stuff doesn't give right impression. If you look numbers bob has like 100% rating and most of others near 0%. That doesn't really tell anything useful to anyone, imo.

My vote goes to the alliance that survives in 0.0 without a bucket full off naps or allies.
Can anybody think of any of the guys on this thread that are boasting and giving out critical opinions that are not napped with most of their surrounding alliances?>
My views may represent those of my corp/alliance but you will have to ask em to be sure. |

I like the User-Interface design, and presenting In-Game maps with sovereignty places a nice piece of context. Reminds me of how desperately Outpost Alert needs an overhaul.
The ranking calculation (as mentioned by other posters) will always give you detractors, however as it currently stands, definitely needs improvement, but this is obviously relatively easy to fix. Specifically; - Calculating in outposts. CCP will be releasing outpost data as XML Soon(tm) so you should have a more rounded ranking then. - Covering more than just territorial alliances.
All-in-All, I give a 10/10 for effort and 5/10 for accuracy. Definitely a solid start in the rankings game

why is density considered bad in this system? shouldn't you divide density by the total and come up with a percentage score? Density should be considered a strength right?

Not to mention that figuring alliance membership as a measure of strength is going to give you faulty data. As was mentioned earlier, ACTIVE members are what matters. An alliance with 2000 members and 500 active members is worse off than an alliance with 1500 members and 1000 active members, for example.
So, I'd advise again factoring in total member count in any measure of power. Looking at the change in membership over the last few days/weeks/months, sure. That'll tell you if an alliance is growing or shrinking. But total membership is too unreliable for meaningful stats to come out of it.

Density is tricky to use as a gauge for score.
More density = better protection of space, as you have more people close enough to help.
This is augmented with jump bridges, as it allows an entity to sprawl further without increasing the travel time by an equal amount.
More density however ALSO is bad, as it crams ratters together, which decreases carebear profits. However, this only applies when density passes approximately 40 players per system, as below that you just don't run into these problems. And even then, problems only occur when the alliance is in serious carebear mode.
More density is an advantage again in terms of managing Sov, as more members means more available logistics, as well as increased taxation revenue.
More density is a problem again when you factor in target value. If you pack a lot of players into a small area, it's high quality meat for nano gangs.
All in all, I don't like using density as a measure for score. Too many arguments about it's value.

Well, if the highest rated alliances collapse, it doesn't reflect well on the usefulness of the rating criteria.

- Covering more than just territorial alliances.
that's true, but hard to do. On your own ranking an alliance with one system and 50 members is placed above an alliance with 1600 members and no systems for example. Does this mean the 50 man alliance is more powerful? I hardly think so. Not that i have the answer how to weigh sovereignty against other factors though. cap ship totals aren't easily acquired and we all know how little numbers say in some cases (fat gets counted as well) maybe the new killmail system will give some data that could be used to measure military strength accurately
Until then this gives an idea of territorial strength at least(outside NPC 0.0 that is) thumbs up for the effort

Have you considered taking the amount of locked threads an alliance can produce into account when weighting the score?

New system: :: level = avg # of neckbeards:: total = neckbeards * active wardecs :: :: density = avg weight of corp members :: score = 100 * (total / density) ::
Please re-run the graph with these numbers.

Interesting point, considering most of your current allies have been evicted from the space they controlled. _______________________________________________________________ He who laughs last is usually the one the joke was about. |
