Originally by: Trojanman190 Hopefully you guys have some cool effects too. These epic looking ships wit the current missile effects would look sooooooo out of place.
Originally by: Yao Shiu what I really really hope though, is that projectiles/lasers/missiles will actually miss graphically if they miss.
now, all shots fired hit their target graphically, even if they "glance past their target causing no damage" or whatever.
From what I've read they're not redoing the effects with the initial release - just Ships, Stargates and Stations. The next release will cover effects and/or backgrounds. ---------------- Tarminic - 29 Million SP in pink Forum Warfare |

One of the reasons some of the ships look so different is because the new graphics engine can render all the parts of the ship properly.
Previously, for example on the Raven, there were spikes at the front, but they only show at specific angles due to the transparency of the texture. Now that we have the groin tingling new engine, the artists have finally been able to realise the potential of the ship designs, and give us the ships you see in that video.
The new effects add to the ships aswell; lighting, reflections, it's all beautiful, and should hopefully reinvigorate the gameplaying experience of EVE.

Joy - please cancel all staff holidays and deliver for Christmas. For this I will gladly sell you anything, anywhere, any time.
Please leave me enough to buy a machine to run everything maxxed to death.
TBH if Eve looks like this, my continued employment could be in jeopardy!

I think its great there overhauling the old graphics engine eve is looking a little outdated now graphics wise. However for a 6 year old engine (I think) its still pretty nice looking compared to other game engines that are 6 years old.
It will also bring a lot of new players. One of the reasons I started playing was that I had heard EVE was getting a graphics overhaul to DX10 sometime in 2008, this made me think "Cool it must be a good game and popular if there bothering to design an entirely new graphics engine for it".
Really looking forward to trinity cant wait for the new raven model

One thing I really want to see though is when you add missile launch bays they show on the ship and when you fire missiles they dont come out of the middle of the ship but launch from the bays, maybe animations like this will be included with next years expansion.
Also would like to see corp/alliance logos that you can paint on the hull of your ship if you wanted.

While I like the look of the new ships, the realism behind the ship design still nags me at the back of my mind. Ship constructions and how each piece is fabbed bothers me. I guess if you're using computer controlled nanofactories that can arrange each molecule into place, you can simply drop in a "blueprint" and get the piece you want without having to change the machine.
I dunno, I just think the ship designs would have a more practical appearance that reflects the ease of manufacture, storage, and shipping of the materials for assembly. The gallente ships are the worst of the four, with all the curved edges, rounded protrusions, and more. The parts of a gallente ship would be a logistics nightmare, taking up far more volume than there actually is there.
Ah well. New eye candy is always good even if it breaks a suspension of disbelief.

But gallente use curves as a way to... reduce their signature radius ! Well, minmatarr don't use that same method anyway.

@Ting Tong: always save as. My Comp basically has a heart-attack everytime i try the other option (opens a new tab and tries to play it as a stream, won't work), so my guess is, yours does aswell. Save as, don't change the filename, plonk it somewhere accesible and enjoy once its done downloading.

Not entirely true, the Mac and Linux client won't support the upgraded graphics right away, although the basic trinity will work, the graphics update will come to Mac and Linux later i believe. As for being Vista only, NO. Trinity 2 is a directX 9 graphics engine, using Shader Model 3.0. A DirectX 10, Vista only client is planned, but no estimated date has been mentioned to my knowledge. So all us XP users can enjoy these gorgeous graphics when it is released later this year. Expect a fairly large download though. (2GB i think a mod mentioned)

Nicer textures and shaders.. Thats nice and polishy but is that really it? Will we be able to operate in full large battles without having to zoom back and see colored little squares? Or can we actually turn our settings on and zoom in and really enjoy this at full scale?
I am all for nicer polish but I wonder if people have seen any real evidence that this is going to run like mercury on a decent computer when it matters.

It's a 3 part video.
