hmm, after the t20 incident and desyncs and unplayable fleet battles I decided to stop voting for EVE. It's good, but to claim it's the best there is .. nah, not until they fix biggest problems.

I think CCP are working as hard as they can to eliminate lag/desynch.
Rather than considering just negatives, consider the achievements:
Eve Online is evolving (server and software getting faster, ambulation project, graphics overhaul on the way)
No other game is unsharded
Player created environment
etc.

Well, not PC game of the year(it's been running so long taht this spot is, in my opinion, reserved for the more "single play" oriented games), but online game would be appropriate.
Though would have to wonder if indeed this or WoW should grab the prize.
Don't get me wrong, EVE is great, wouldn't change it for anything, but WoW is great in it's fantasy genre too, with it's own good/bad things, and with the added success of it, it's hard to say EVE is best without being a bit biased
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

You have got to be kidding? If people blindly keep voting it best game, then CCP will never get off their laurels, and actually fix the game.
If there is a "best laggy game", "most unreliable server", or even "WTF do they actuall DO in downtime?" category, hey, I'm there.
Don't get me wrong, I love this game, but sorry fellas, this year you DON'T deserve the titles. All you deserve is a major kick up the arse to sort your house out.

Not a chance it gets my vote in its current state. Eve is having the kind of issues normally associated with new MMOGs during launch. Eve is terribly broken at the moment and is not good value for money. --

I dunno, I think if you ran the numbers EVE would still have something like 99% uptime (not including scheduled downtimes, which would put it at about 95%). ------------ Whiners - Unite! Tarminic - 25 Million SP in Forum Warfare. |

This is the Eve-Online forums, nobody cares about the uptime only the downtime, half of the people here don't even play.

It wont win cause 14 year olds have i-net access, this unnamed game will win cause its better then EvE. At least untill one hits max level and burns out on Raidcontent and Farming.

That's a negative thing. They shouldn't be reimbursing ships lost in pvp without a damn good reason. I've had ships reimbursed from pvp that were lost fair and square, which makes me wonder if my enemies are getting all their ships replaced when I make a successful kill. Kind of negates the point of PvP if your enemies get their ships back for free all the time.

Eve has already won these titles, and it doesn't deserve them again. Every MMO is evolving, so that doesn't count. The current issues and beta feel as well as a host of ingame bugs which havent been solved over the past YEARS make this game a definite NO GO for game of the year. Online game of the year, sure. every other MMO is kiddy litter anyway. too bad it aint online much :-) lolzor!!! kidding.... ----------------------------------------------- "Yes... Who else does then? Its not like blizzard have done anything special with WoW since launch except raise the level roof a couple of times and introducing new dungeons.
At least in Eve we get NEW capabilities, not just more of the same.

I empathise lag is annoying, but if Eve Online doesn't win, another game will.
WoW will win in another catagory - Game of the Year. So don't worry about WoW not winning something!
I think CCP are doing the best they can to speed the server up.
I've voted for Eve Online, even if you haven't!

IMO. CCP does deserve the award, they bring a better gaming experience then anyone else in the market can. Offcourse there are issues with servers and other "annoyances", but still no other MMO comes even remotely close.

Edited by: Galk on 08/08/2007 17:40:39 Well i don't.....
The online award isn't the sole domain of the mmorpg, and frankly just how this game can be nominated for the 'pc game of the year' is a joke.
It shows the worthlessness of the awards when there putting forward a 5-6 year old game engine (more) based on a content update, that even the developers admit is in such a poor state, there having to rewrite the code and structure of the entire thing to make it playable.
If thats your game of the year then so be it, personaly.... why bother with voted awards.... there meaningless when being rigged by obsessed fanbases determined to make themselfs a'no 1.
They become less credible and make a joke of the industry everytime it happens

If this award were purely for graphics I would agree, but I think that EVE deserves credit for it's design - there's no other game that's so dependent on player-generated content or any game that even allows the kind of political and social structures that EVE does, and even with the massive problems due to desync and lag issues it's still ahead of it's time in this regard. Now whether this makes it deserving of PC Game of the Year or not, is a matter of opinion. ------------ Whiners - Unite! Tarminic - 25 Million SP in Forum Warfare. |

I voted for Medieval II for best PC game. I don't know who to vote the best online game as I haven't played the other nominees.
Personally, I don't think EVE deserves awards at the moment.
