All of the Tech II ships are designed to maximize the capabilities of the Tech I version of the ship (Caracal becomes the Cerberus sending missles downrange at a sickening rate, the Blackbird becomes the Rook, making it impossible to get a lock on anything, and then you die). On top of that, these specialties are taken advantage of in multiple ship classes, like the Stealth Bomber and the Cerberus being lethal with missles or versatility of the Hawk/Harpy and the Eagle. There should be Tech II ECM Frigates. Empire wars would be a little more interesting if a Tech II Griffin or Maulus could reach out and touch some one from about 65km out. |

In the Caldari ECM boat chain you have, by class size:
Griffin Blackbird Rook/Falcon Scorpion
The problem would be where do you fit the Tech II version of the Griffin and what would its Tech II bonuses be?
You're not going to be able to play much with jammer strength bonuses without bumping some ship's strength up (never going to happen) or some down.
As for the part you wrote about reaching out to 65km with a Tech II version of the Griffin, maybe I'm not sure what you mean, but if you're talking about range, you can already easily jam people at over 65km with the Griffin as it is now. ---- Some people say I have a bad attitude. Those people are stupid.

they could have T2 frigs that have 0 weapon hardpoints and there only job is EM warfare and tanking other frigs.
or a EW boat that gets bonues to smartbomb range and is used as a battleship lock down ship.
it cld have some silly increase to cap regen based on the fact it doesn't have weapons...
or we can just wait for the nos nerf :P ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP |

The Griff is freaking uber right this minute. For the price, it's a perfect storm of four medium slots, awesome ship bonus, frigate-level speed and rugged good looks.
The Grif rocks socks in a Wolfpack, bringing amazing reach to the fight. You can strap remote sensor boosters on it for a gate camp, letting it aid the snipers from well outside enemy lock range. It's a versatile, dynamic little monkey wrench.
A T2 variant (Sphynx, as I recall) could never offer more without being insane. More ECM power would just make it a mini blackbird, and a tank on an EW frig is silly.
Don't get me wrong, I ache for a T2 variant of my ugly ducklings, the Grif and Banty, but there's just no call for it right now.

so they make a t2 griff with no weapon hard points and great shield recharge rate and recon ship shield bonuses. it has a max speed of 300k and beefed up capacitor. would you fly it over flying a blackbird? |

Probably not, since a Blackbird's still more spaceship, and probably cheaper, especially with insurance in the formula.

I have to agree here....
Unless you gave the techII only bonuses to survivability over techI and nothing else...

similar to recon cruisers - as it stands we have EMC drones with correct extenders those puppies can engage someone at 120km + The ECM on a tech 2 might be weaker at range and stronger up close ( variable strength) or perhaps would have a +1 factor or something when applied to ECM modules. Some sort of offset such as being slower or taking a hit on NOS or rep modules

Another problem with tech 2 Ewar frigs: The Minmatar, Amarr, Gallente tech 1 Ewar ships have all been pressed into service as tech 2 covert ops. The Caldari are the only race who use thier T1 probe ship as a T2 Cov Ops.
The amarr don't even have a probe frigate. Ever notice they are one frig short of the other races?

Have to agree here. I don't really see the place for another ECM ship of that size. Adding it would be rather for the sake of completeness (because there isn't one, yet) than for a reasonable need.
