Initially, I didn't try to do the first mission in a shuttle. I decided to be greedy and go in with my CNR and kill everything. Mistake.
It was easy until the second spawn appeared (is it triggered by killing something? by a timer? I dunno). The combined DPS of the Guristas spawns is something fierce, and I was permajammed to the point that I had to warp out. I was lucky that I wasn't scrambled. First time I've had to warp out of a mission in a very long time.
Checked the forums, went back in my shuttle. I can say that, once the second Gurista spawn is present, it is impossible to reach the gate with a shuttle before it pops.
I pondered this a bit at the station and waited for the NPCs to revert back to their more distant starting points. After a little while, I went back in my Buzzard, cloaking as I was inbound from the starting gate.
It was easy enough to reach the second gate cloaked, but I was waiting with my finger on the "activate gate" button the whole way. There are no structures between you and the gate, the NPCs are at least 11 km distant with none in your path, and it is easy to get to the gate provided that you are on the ball to warp once you get there (because the cloak will deactivate and the entire room will try to target you, causing the game to freeze).
I got to the second room, the journal icon started blinking (mission accomplished!), and I warped out. Good thing. There is a cloud in the second room that prevents you from cloaking, so you are immediately exposed to the rats there if you stay.
Did the second room in a shuttle with no problem.
Haven't tried 3 of 3 yet.
I did the Guristas one in my Passive tanked Domi.
My mistake was a similar one, I decided to let all the spawns pop up and kill them.
There were 4 spawns of Guristas, eventually pitting me versus a whole pile of bad nasties. The damage output was just high enough that my tank was failing. My primary mistake was spending all my time killing the Dire Pithum tackler ships while more and more battleships spawned. I should have killed the damn ECM Jammer ships, the Dire Pithum Murderers. Once those things spawned I couldn't target anything. I think the tacklers don't actually scramble, because in the 5 or so attempts I made, I never was warp scrambled.
Ultimately what made the mission more or less impossible was the ECM jamming. When I warped in, I knew I'd have about 45 seconds before my tank would fail. I was desperate to kill the last two tacklers as I assumed I'd just been getting lucky not being warp scrambled and was expecting at any moment to find myself locked down and doomed. I would warp in and as I'm trying to lock the tacklers, I'd be ECM jammed. Every friggin' time! And since it takes me just about 20 or so seconds to lock one of the Guristas tacklers (Signature Analysis V), even if they missed a jam cycle, I'd find myself jammed moments before I locked the frig on the next cycle. I knew I couldn't make it to the gate before having to warp out in my Domi, and I've got 46m sp, with maxed engineering skills and 8m in drones. Needless to say I was a tad bit irritated.
I figured I could try running the gauntlet in a fast frig, and gave it a shot with a Condor and a MWD, but as I zoomed towards the gate the NPCs locked me and threw a line of missiles behind me. I got to the gate and as I was pulling down the menu to activate, I was hit by a barrage that put me into a pod.
I said screw it at that point. I could probably have gotten my Ceptor through there but at that point I was pretty fed up.
