Hey folks!
I been having a hard time doing lvl 4 missions with my Tempest. Some of the missions i can tank fine. But there are some missions i don't stand a chance!!
I am a shield tanker, i suck in armor tanking having just 200k sp in mechanic.
My character is aroung 9 mill sk points. 1 mill in Enginering. 2,8 mill in gunnery. 0,8 mill in Drones. And the left sp is scattered around in different areas.
This is my current setup:
High: 6x1400mm scout tech 1, 2xAssault missile launcher
Meds: 3xhardeners tech2(rat spesific) 1xInvu tech2, 1xLsb
Lows: 3xgyro tech2, 1xsensor booster, 2xpds tech 2
Rigs: 3xCCC
Some of the missions i can't tank even if my lsb on.
Appreciate some info on what i'm doing wrong. Really need help here folks

A Maelstrom is a better choice for missions. Bigger grid, bonus for shield boosting. Packs a very mean tank, though it does suffer from a relatively low DPS when using arty (enough for lvl4 though). The fact it has 8 turret slots means you don't have to train missle skills.

Get a phoon, far better for L4s. 4 sieges, 4 autos lots and lots of drones.
You can get insane resistances and run large rep + hardners 24/7
IMO, far supperior than the tempest and easier for missions.

don't try to shield tank the tempest, it just won't work. both the tempest and typhoon are armor tankers but the phoon is slightly better at it (1 more low). my current tempest fit is as follows:
6 1200mm, 1 arby siege, 1 drone link aug (whatever increases drone range) 5 cap recharger IIs 3 active hardeners, 2 gyroII, 1 LARII if necessary, drop a gyro for another hardener
if you want to fit an AB, use CCC rigs and drop a capII if you want to fit another LARII, drop 1 or both gyro and use a CPR and also tack on a grid rig.
FYI, I have AWU IV so thats probably whats letting me fit all that.
as was said earlier if you REALLY want to shield tank, use a mael.

If you're shield tanking why not swap to a raven?

I used to do L4's with my pest.
I had decent armor tank skills while doing it. Even added some good hardners (faction) to stay alive long enough to kill off the worst ratts.
L4's isnt so hard if you have the right intell for the mission. There are web pages giving very nice information.
Im pretty sure you can do some of the L4's in pest with shield tank. But again. Look at the mission info. You should do well as a shield tanker against ratts that do exp and kin damage. But, for those ratts doing em or thermal i sugest you armor tank with the pest...
For now i agree on the poster abowe her that sugested getting a Maelstrom. As you already got shield skills, and hardly any armor skills. This is the ship for you. It has one hell of a shield tank. As you most likely fit only guns in your high slot, make sure you have some good drones in your bay. You will need it ;)

I don't think your fit looks that bad. It should be workable with a few minor changes.
1) ditch the invul for an SBA, T2 or faction preferably 2) ditch the 1400s for 1200s 3) Get a gist XL booster to replace the large with 4) drop the signal amplifier for another PDU 5) Upgrade to heavy or cruise missiles if you have enough room after 1-4 are done.
