In game, there are a number of items which transfer power from one ship to another, such as;
Small 'Knave' 1 Energy Drain Small Energy Transfer Array 1
These items are useful, both in combat, and for mining. However I have a suggestion specific to the 'Energy stealing devices' such as the Energy Drain Devices or more specifically another use of the Energy Transfer Arrays.
If a pirate can steal energy using an energy draining device, and we happen to have an Energy Transfer Array, why can't we overload their device by offering energy to them? (perhaps at a rate that exceeds their capacity)?
There seems to be no good defences against these energy thieves and this would be an excellent defence. Currently the Energy transfer device seems to only work with our gang and so and was designed to help our friends. I can't see why if a bad guy can steal our energy we can't use our energy transfer device as a defensive weapon also against our enemies.
Perhaps we could even use it against other pirates who aren't trying to steal our power, the idea is that if we voluntarily give energy to an enemy we fill up their batteries, and if we persist in giving them energy, we overload their energy array for say 5 seconds or something and their system shuts down while it resets.
You guys are always making bug fixes and patches, could you ensure the items developers get this suggestion, and give it a thought? I think it provides balance for those who use energy transfer tactics against others.
Thanks.

Another similar idea which I think is a little nicer is to have NOS suck up the damage from active smartbombs, so if you NOS someone and he turns on a couple of large smartbombs you are suddenly in a world of pain.
It would need to be balanced of course, I imagine that balance is related to the amount of cap needed to tank the damge you are sucking up. Imagine you are hitting someone with a large NOS and they turn on a large smartbomb. In general the damage you recieve from the smartbomb should require slighty more cap to active tank then the amount of cap you are getting from the NOS. Making it a losing proposition. Additionaly if you turn a second large NOS on him you will get twice the cap but shouldn't recieve any more damage unless he has a second smartbomb. Or if he truns on a second smartbomb and you are still running only 1 NOS you shouldn't soak up and more damage.

Engineering Warfare! I like it.
If you direct an Energy Transfer Array at a ship that is NOSing you, there is a chance that their NOS might be damaged and disabled (though easily repaired in station). It sounds like a bit of a desperate move though, and if you try it and fail you'll just end up giving even more of your cap to the emeny.
Larger NOS should be more durable than the smaller types. Tacklers would have to consider "Does this guy have an ETA fitted?" when going in to attack.
/signed, for sheer craziness.

Cool idea, with the smart bomb vs Nos. A solution that both nerfs Noses and boosts smart bombs. ______________ Join the Family |

btw, not my idea, I think the original was titled something like "poisoning the well"

The great thing about this idea is, NosDomi's will just switch to neuts and a pair of nos, then people will fire off their smartbomb and suddenly go 'OMFG, I JUST WASTED ALL MY CAP, I'M BONED!!!!'

In light of the overload feature recently introduced, I revisited this idea. Why not allow energy transfer devices the ability to cause an overload in a certain number of targeted systems such as the NOS.
Using the Energy Transfer Array to overload a targeted Nos would provide balance in that there would be a counter weapon to the NOS and to equip a small energy transfer array for this purpose would take up a valuable slot. The new overload feature works well with my original suggestion.
