Me and Thardoz was talking about how poor the gang invite system is. Well more on how poor the gang system is entirely and he come up with this idea of inviting people.
Quote: Having a client side enhancement for invites would also be a nice thing. Something like this: Gang boss can give the gang a name. Like "Let's shaft IAC gang". When someone wants to join the gang he can right click on his own portrait, sees the available gangs for corp and/or alliance and can submit a gang request to one of these gangs. The invites then land in a queue at the bottom of the separate gang window (oldest request on top) and the people with permissions (Boss, FC, WCs, SLs) can pick up, reject or ignore the invites. After a default period (like 5 minutes) unhandled invites expire to uncluttered the window.
As the client "knows" what ship the gang requester is flying it could as well show the info in the gang request as well. Like "Menth (RKK) [Avatar]".
If the requester has leadership 5, the client could also assign him automatically to a free or unassigned squad leadership position upon granted invite. OR it could suppress the "invite as squad commander" menu entry if the person doesn't have leadership skills. That alone would cut the hassles by two thirds.
Seems like a really good idea to me. Would make it alot easyer on everybody and clean up alliance chat.

I can see a very good application of this idea, with a few modifications. Possibly instead of having a list of gangs a person can join by a right click on their name, maybe a search function, almost like a LFG idea. Only reason I say this is because if there was a list of all the gangs a person could join, think about that... EVERY gang in the game would be on that list, which would be worse for the client side of things than opening the markets search in Jita. I think just about everyone has made that mistake at least once.
I'm just seeing an idea of being able to look by Corp members in gangs, or alliance members in gangs, that sort of thing would make this idea a strong and reasonable one to be added.

There is also more gang related stuff that needs fixing and tbh, it bugs me the most:
The bloody overview needs fixing!
The last patch did nothing to improve the situation - despite it being mentioned in the patch notes. As FC or WC you need to have the gang tab in the overwiew expanded to monitor if your squads still have leaders. So the gang related stuff takes up around 50-70% of the vertical space in your overview and with big gangs you still may need to scroll up and down to see everything - even with target area shrunken and drone tab closed.
Just prior to entering a fight you of course have to minimize the gang stuff in the overview to be able to see enough of your target list again. But the more you mess with the overview by resizing certain areas of it, the sooner it gets bugged and wraps up outside of the visible screen area. With tab you can then minimize the entire overwiew and eventually get it resorted to the point that you can see everything again BUT targets.
Bugged overview = Worse than bad.
Dunno how often I fell behind while roaming due to having to relog to restore my client settings from a backup copy to get the overview unbugged.
Suggestion:
It should be possible to undock the squad composition window from the overview to make it a separate window like an undocked folder from peeps and places. Or make it another tab in the scanner window. That frees up the overview for important things. It would also help to make it less prone to bugging the overwiew while it at the same time would improve visibility of gang related stuff when you need it - for those that need it (Gang boss, FC, WCs).
Likewise: Do the same with the drone window. Carrier and mothership pilots need to be able to undock the drone window from overview for better visibility and easier management.
More UI related things that would need fixing: In the right click pop up window gang officials have the following:
- warp to - warp to (distance) - warp gang - warp gang to (distance) - Align to - Travel to
The four "warp to" items need to be spaced further apart. Like moving the gang related warps to the very bottom as last two items. With the introduction of "warp to zero" gang warps have become very rare when the gang is traveling. OTOH: Especially when warping to another player "warp to zero" is often a bad idea as it causes bumps or uncloaks. So you rather warp to a certain distance (10km at least). At THAT point it is very easy to mis click and suddenly you may end up warping the entire squad or wing - which can easily be a recipe for disaster.
Spacing the warp to entries further apart in the right click window would solve that easily.
Gang / Squad chat. Pretty please give the wing commander(s) the ability to join the squad chat channels of his own wing. We need that often enough and gang chat or voice chat is not the right place for sorting out who needs to be put into a leadership position or who may need to be moved from one squad to another.
Even in a very well disciplined and well organized PVP force gang management gets very ungainly once gangs have reached a certain size due to all the minor and major nuisances and bugs in the current implementation of the gang stuff. Sure, everyone can and will make do with what is currently implemented. We certainly better than most others. But a few minor changes could help a lot to make it easier for everyone.

Alternatively, it could be made similar to the current fitting screen, opening in separate window and allowing you to drag-and-drop gang members into 'gang slots' in similar way modules can be dropped in relevant slots... something like:
fleet screen mockup
(red border indicated squad/fleet commanders without sufficent skills to add the bonus... also the current standings flag system on portraits could be probably used to mark the gang members who can fill the role of commander if necessary, etc o.O;
