Hello
Since recently i want to get into capitals, I would like to fly dread's, carriers and FA's.
I am not sure wether it's better to train for capitals on my main or on an alt though. I checked and because i only started playing last year i don't have that many SP, so if i make an alt, the training time will roughly be the same.
If i train for them on an alt i would probably keep my main account to sub-capitals and cyno's.
Now my main problem is paying for the accounts wich is also why i am still thinking about it. I am just a student so it's not that easy to keep 2 eve accounts payed every month.
Does anyone on here have any suggestions? |

An extra eve account is the equivalent of 1 nice bottle of wine or 8 cans of good Stout per month. I was an art student (I have the children and drinking problem to prove it) so I know it's doable.

I went down the SubCaps on Main, Alt account training for Caps route. Mind you, the alt has kind of topped out at Black Ops battleships for the moment. Just a few things to knock over before starting on that oh so joyous Advanced Spaceship Command V, Capital Ships skillplan.
IMHO: If you're going to fly any ship with a Jump Drive, you kind of *need* two accounts. You won't always have someone around you can trust to light you that badly needed Cyno.

As an Arts student you shouldn't have known what a good bottle of wine is :) Good wine comes in silver bags :)

Apparently I went through Uni on "hard mode". But I gained the ability to homebrew, so that's a decent tradeoff...

I did Computer Science, women were a foreign and confusing thing that distracted me from the drunken pursuit of code...

That's not limited to studying Computer Science.

Two characters (advantages and disadvantages):
- Takes half as long. You need approx 60 mil SP for a wide variety of subcaps, and you need approx 60-80 mil SP for the capitals you listed. Without skill injectors that's 3 years each.
- You have to train the support skills and a few duplicate ships and weapons skills, twice (once on each character). Because you're making combat characters, so you cannot skimp on armor, shields, rigs, navigation, energy, etc.
- You have the subcaps alt available as a cyno beacon to move your capital ship around if needed.
- You're paying two subscriptions instead of one.
- Ceasefire: you can log in the cap ships only when needed, otherwise play with the (possibly neutral or unknown) subcap alt. |

Mainly your alt, or alternatively your main.
We must accommodate the idiocracy.

Does anyone on here have any suggestions? Look at the training time multipliers on capital ship and module skills. That should answer your question. |

Subcaps on main, caps on alt.
It gives you the option to go on fleets with your subcap main and still bring in a cap if a fight escalates.
Also maxing out capital skills takes a loooong time and is time you can't use for improving your subcap skills.
My capital alt is at 40mil SP and can fly a FAX, a Carrier and a Dread but has many of the bigger cap skills (e.g. the racial carrier/dread skills) at IV. Maxing those skills out will easily take another year of training and would only improve those 3 (rarely used*) ships.

I have an alt with 36 million less skill points than me. I consider my alt to be better skilled.
Biggest difference: other than a freighter, my alt has no capital skills. I can pilot all but titans.
I also have a capital alt with 8 million less skill points than me. My alt is a better capital pilot. This is my capital pilot, though he can't pilot dreads, he's a specialist in all the others: all freighters, all jump freighter, all force auxiliaries, all carriers, Orca, Rorqual.
When deciding for yourself, look at the training time for T2 capital modules. |
