Edited by: Milonia on 13/03/2007 23:09:33 What is everyone using for a dedicated salvage ship?
I am using the ever popular Cormorant with:
High
6 X Salvager I 2 X Tractor Beam
Mid
1 X 1MN AB I (or MWD if you aren't salvaging in missions) 1 X Cap recharger I 2 X Small Cap Battery I
Low
1 X Nanofiber I
It is really cheap and can be flown with low skills (like me!)
I have salvaging at level 3 right now and I pull in wrecks at an even rate with my salvaging with 6 salvagers at that skill level. If I got salvaging to 4 or 5 I might want to drop a salvager or two and pull wrecks in a bit faster with more tractor beams. But so far this thing is a vacuum cleaner in space! The Nanofiber in the low is to get some more speed to zip to tractor range. Cargo expander doesn't give enough extra cargo space to make it worth it.
What are your salvage setups?
EDIT: BTW This ship is named the ACV Carrion Crawler. ============================== Milonia Security Agent of APEX Unlimited Piloting the ACV Pit Fiend (Ferox)

In all honesty, you have more Salvagers then you need. I have 4 on my Catalyst (Better for salvaging) and Salvaging level 2 and I clear a wreck in once cycle. All I can suggest is to go down to 3 tractors and see how you like it. With 6 salvagers, you'll melt the wrecks faster then you can pull 'em in. ------------------- My opinions (ie, all of my posting here) are not my corporations. Nor should it be taken as such. |

I use a armageddon with 4 salvagers and 4 tractors up top and 5 expanded cargo/3 nano down low. Nice for level 4 missions so you don't have to keep going to a station to empty your cargohold.

I use two salvagers at most to be honest with you, at level 5 salvaging that's only a 50% chance to open a can first time but I find that it's enough. I don't get the tractor beam thing though, I can never imagine a situation where I will be in such a rush to salvage stuff *shrugs* Actually I most of the time salvage in a Reaper ;p

My main profession is salvaging,, I salvage for all my corp mates. I have tried many ships, but i love the Catalyst best. I have Lvl 5 salvaging skill. I can salvage the wreaks faster than the tractor beams can bring them in.

Before the reduction in salvage materials' volume, I found my cormorant was a bit low on the cargo side. As a result, I cooked up:
'Bone Collector' Cyclone-Class Battlecruiser 4x Salvager 4x Tractor Beam' 2x Cargo Expander 2x Nanofibre
Only on fairly rare occasions does it take more than one trip to clean up a L4 battlefield.
Probably not all that cost-effective, but I built it from minerals gained from looting so no matter really.

Catalyst is definitely better than the Cormorant, it gives up one med for two valuable lows (speed/cargo space).

I am currently using a Cormorant with: High 3 X Salvager I 4 X Tractor Beam Mid 2 X small battery 1 X 1MN AB II 1 X Cap rechager Low 1 X PDS
This setup may not be ideal but the larger cargo and alright speed (better than any cruiser or BC) is what i am looking for and it doesnt take much if any extra skill to invest in. Now I know I have an extra high slot open that is becasue I am unable to equip an another salvager, but I make do with just the 3 and can constanly tractor beam the wrecks to you, salvage, and continue to the next one without stopping. I really thinks it comes down to how much isk and skill time you want to invest into a salvager ship.

I liked the exequeror, with as many salvagers as you can fit, minus 1 or 2 slots for tractors.
Then mwd and all expanders. You're damn fast and have a huge cargo capacity.

Brutix
High: 3x Tractor 4x Salvager 1
Mid: 1x 10mn AB2 3x what ever you want (shield tank?)
Low: 5x Cargo expanders
Rigs: 3x Salvage Tackle
Has like 950m3 cargo space and moves good with AB2 (could up to MWD if not in DS)

For pure salavaging, Cormorant or Coercer.
For combination looting/salvaging of L4 missions, Exquorer with 2x tractor and 2x salvager in the highs. It could use another high slot, but it's got the cargo space to completely clean up most L4 missions without making a trip back to the station, and even with my low salvaging skills I'm limited by how fast I can pull in or MWD to the wrecks more than by the salvaging speed. |

I still use my Typhoon:
4x salvager 4x tractor beam
100MN MWD 100MN AB 2x cap recharger
5x cargo expander II 2x iStab
2x Salvage tackle rig
(and a bunch of drones just because you can) A cool 2100+ m^3 cargo space, does 400+m/s with AB, perfect for salvage zooming through a lvl 4 and 1000+m/s on the mwd to get to the next group of wrecks, no cap problems so I'm keeping one rig slot open .. All the stuff above does not necessarily reflect my corp, my alliance or even me.. Drone guide.. |

For 0.0 ninjasalvaging, Exequror! Around 8k shields and 1,3k m3 cargo
HI: 1x Tractor Beam, 3x Salvager MED: 1x 10mn MWD, 3x LSE LOW: 3x Expanded Cargohold
Could also fit nanos or istabs on lows and still have around 0,8k m3 cargo, really depends are you salvaging some deadspace pocket or belts.

I (my other char) use exchequer (spelling?)
2 salvager 2 tractors 10mnAB, 20km scram, 2 sensor damps 3 nanos 900m3 space and goes pretty well:)
Do the salvage rigs make much difference? i salvage everything i kill in 0.0 any clues on % increase in salvage materials with rigs on?

Don't you mean a 25% chance? Unless they've changed the skill again, or you've got a T2 Salvage Tackle rig hidden somewhere I can't see how you get 50%, as 3 Salvage Tackles and L5 salvaging gives you 55%, while L5 in the skill alone gives you 25%.
In answer to the question, I personally use a Cormorant:
4x Tractor, 4x Salvager I MWD, 2x Small Cap Battery, 1x Cap Recharger Expanded Cargohold I Salvage Tackle I rigs
I have to warp out ocassionally for the heavy loot missions like Infiltrated Outposts, but with the MWD, it doesn't take long to get back to the business of looting/salvaging.

Thrasher is my salvager of choice,
Hi: 2xTractor, 4xSalvager, 2xAC's
Meds: MWD, Cap Recharger, Cap Battery
Lows: I-Stab, Cap Power Relay
What I usually do is I do the mission the bookmark the rooms, then go to the agent and finishes it. Take out the salvager and start moving around. Can clear very large missions with lots of wrecks in short order by micromannaging it. Keep 4 wrecks locked, salvage the two closest with two salvagers on each while tractoring in the other two into salvage/looting range.

Ditched my Typhoon in favour of my Eris:
4 Tractor Beam 4 Salvager
1mn AB II Medium Shield Extender II
Signal Amplifier II 3 Expanded Cargohold II
1 Salvage Tackle (so far)
Due to the Signal Amplifier II I can lock 8 targets with the Eris and therefor salvage 4 wrecks while tractoring 4 fresh ones.
I am actually hoping a second tackle will slow it down enough to allow me to run the AB II and NOT outrun the wrecks I am tractoring.

personally i use my coercer 6 salvagers 2 tractors 1ab and cargo expanders with my skills i travel just a lil slower than the tractor beams pick an end to start at and click "go" tractor everything in sight and once you're full you jet the lot and then just drag that around with you to be emeptied later i don't get why people object to doing this as it's far easier than docking each time you fill your hold

Any stats on salvage rigs? Do they increase the amount of salvage you get or just increase the speed?
What materials are needed to build one btw? I'm at work atm so can't check it out

Before I stopped looting/salvaging I used nanophoon.
4x salvager 4x tractor MWD, Sensor booster, cap rehargers 3x istab 2x nano 2x expander
Quite adequate for most level 4 missions (just dump the scrap metal in space).

Being Gallente, there are three options:
The Catalyst (and I think it is the same with most other destroyers) is the cheap and easy solution. Decent salvaging, a bit short on cargo, when you are salvaging and looting.
The Eris - actually with this ship I'm not only salvaging, but also kill the ships I'm salvaging from, with 4 blasters, 2 Nos, and 2 Salvagers fitted in the highs.
The Exequror - hands down the best ship for the professional salvager/looter with 2 or 3 salvagers and 2 or 1 tractors fitted. It has the cargo space the destroyers are lacking.
I looked at Battlecruisers and Battleships as well, but all of them don't have the cargo space of the Exequror, and you don't really need more then 2, max 3 salvagers on the ship, and more then 2 tractors are already work.
Soe the best pure salvage ship is the Exequror, the best buy for the money is the Catalyst (and probably any other Destroyer), the most fun is the Eris, since you can create your own loot with it in the belts .

Since I do lvl4s mostly, a destroyer neither has enough cargo space, nor enough cap to run all required modules continously. So now I am using a Minmatar Hurricane, named "The Cleaner". It has the best attributes for that job: 8 high, 6 low, 475 cargo hold and relative fast.
4xTractors, 4x Salvagers, 10mn AB II, 10,mn MWD, 2x Cap Recharger, 3x Expanded Cargoholds (varous named), 2x Local Hull Nanofibers, 1x Inertia Stab
Gives about 900 - 1000 m¦ of cargo hold, depending on what modules you use. I also use a container in my hold, for a further increase in storage capacity. With the AB always on, I get a speed of about 400 m/s, just enough that I can drag wrecks around with the tractors while approaching other wrecks. The MWD is just for short bursts when some wrecks a further away.. Cap is steady with all modules (AB, Salvagers, Tractors) always on. Going faster than 400 isnt recommended, since the tractors only manage 500m/s themselves.
So far i dont have any rigs fitted, but as soon as my BPO comes out of research, i will fit 3x salvage tackles on it..
of course its a bit more costly (35-40 mil for the ship), but I was able to use looted parts to fit it, so I find its well worth the isk (if i can resist the itch to fit the low slots with tech 2 ).
