The 118.7 release has been deployed successfully!
This thread is for reporting issues regarding the release, which brings contract functionality to citadels, as well as iterations on the visual damage system, PBR for in space assets, improvements to graphics performance in areas that have clouds and more intuitive UI feedback for ship holds.
You can find out more about this release, and read the patch notes over on EVE Updates.
For general feedback on the 118.7 release, please use this thread. To report issues with the MAC build, please use this thread.
Please be aware that the in game search function may be unreliable for up to a half hour after release, as part of this update requires Tranquility to online for live re-indexing of a number of tables.

I tried to run VLC video player after 1st Eve client and VLC lost all sounds. If I ran VLC before the 1st Eve clients, both have normal audio. Maybe with Asus STX soundcard, the 1st Eve client initializes sound in some kind of exclusive mode?
We're taking a look with a few configurations. Thanks for the heads up.

Hey Audio Folks. Just keeping you posted on the mandatory "Exclusive Mode" audio issue here.
We're presently determining how best to approach the issue (preferably without rolling back the benefits of the upgrade or forcing another large download).
At present, all of the bug reports and the only reliable repro for this issue have come from machines running Windows 7 with a dedicated soundcard (or equivalent USB device). If you are not on Win7 and not using a dedicated audio device, do us a solid and send me a message.
Driver updates and the "Exclusive Mode" settings for these devices do not seem to have an effect, though I thank the players that gave that a shot first.
I will chime back in here with a progress report once we make some headway.
Lastly, and this is NOT a solution, opening up programs before starting the EVE client will keep audio enabled for those programs. So if you absolutely cannot wait for the Devs and can anticipate your secondary/ancillary activities prior to beginning a play session, I personally recommend firing up your media/browser/chat utilities in advance. Again, not out official position on the matter, just me telling you what I'm doing to keep myself from getting cranky.
-Er.
Crankier.
More soon.

Potential secondary workaround:
Open up the Sound menu from the Control Panel and in the Playback tab, DISABLE anything that isn't the discrete audio card (Xonar, Scarlett, etc) by right clicking and choosing "Disable" from the contextual menu.
Essentially, this means "Disable Realtek Digital Output".
Research is ongoing.

Right now, the standing advice per CCP Savior is to make sure you are actually running the latest versions.
There doesn't seem to be (or at least I haven't seen) a specific condition that makes one system crash when another system running the same card (and OS etc) doesn't. But the Graphics QA team is on the task and looking into what might be at fault.
And if my information is woefully inadequate and/or already out of date, my only excuse is that I have been futzing with audio cards all day.

One of a great many reasons why i specified that it was NOT a solution, Samsara.
Finding the proper way to ensure playability across all our supported platforms and configurations is a priority and this issue in particular is getting a lot of developer attention right now.
In the meantime, I do recommend you try the manual deactivation of all other audio devices in the Control Panel's Sound menu.

Hey Stanley Ray and Steluna de Chasteux!
You can read this a little further back in this very thread, but manually disabling all other sound devices through the Sound menu in the Windows Control Panel (leaving the discrete card selected as the default device) should provide a temporary workaround until we can patch with a better solution in client.
The audio team is on this, and we're trying to make sure we don't break anything else when we put out a fix.

Rivr Luzade wrote:You need to do something about the new cloud rendering. While it looks nice and has fixed some issues (for instance in the Forsaken Rally Points, the cloud does not flicker any longer), it causes unbearable frame rate drops in other areas like the Independence (both rooms with their huge red clouds) or the L4 mission "Desperate Maneuvers". The new clouds usually perform better, but certain mission and deadspace sites have authoring issues that cause frame rate drops, so please bug report them as you see them. I'll point your message out to the devs who are keeping an eye on this so we can arrange to take a look at those specific sites you mention.
Also, to people here who are reporting general cloud performance issues: If you are having this problem, please bug report that from within client so we can see a snapshot of your hardware and software configuration.

So, with the audio bug we do not have a reliable repro yet inhouse.
We have an Asus card that is reliable giving us a repro in one machine only, win7 64, asus card with onboard realtek audio device. Trying to repro this on a win7 32, asus card and onboard realtek did work.
I'd really appreciate that to get the complete machine specs on all the computers that are having the problem to try to narrow it down and get a reliable test scenario.
You can enable/disable any playback device and get you your audio back on all programs.. |

Investigation bears fruit!
The audio issue is due to the Asus card trying to run at a sample rate not supported by EVE.
Setting the Asus device to run at 48khz at any bit depth will correct the issue.
This problem is constrained exclusively to Windows 7 64-bit.

Tipa Riot wrote:This is really an issue, as I'm PvPing often in sites/anomalies, which forces me to emergency switch to low shaders to be able to fight (effects off requires a session change). It was not an issue before the patch (means performance loss didn't impact the play). I've verified that turning off the "effects" switch will also inhibit cloud rendering without turning down shader quality. After turning off the switch, you'll need a session change (warping, docking, jumping) for it to take effect.

Hello EVE Audio Enthusiasts!
We are putting a fix for the Windows 7 64-bit/discrete sound card exclusive audio issue on to Singularity later this afternoon (sometime after 16:00 EVE Time).
The audio team would really appreciate if anyone who experienced the issue would hop on the test server and give this build a whirl. Both positive and negative feedback on the results are welcome in this thread.
Provided all goes according to plan (and no unforeseen edge cases arise in the next week), we expect to be pushing this fix onto the subsequent TQ release.
