Edited by: Sylthi on 14/02/2008 11:44:08 #1. Focus many more efforts and resources than currently are on making Eve as stable and reliable for as many players as possible. Perhaps a complete overhaul of the Q&A process, as the current system is obviously very broken. I.E. Every time something gets "changed" or "upgraded" ESPECIALLY to the servers, it takes DAYS to WEEKS to correct what got broken while things were getting "fixed". If they ever get fixed at all. Case in point, at the time of this post, we are having DTs (planned and not) 2-4 times DAILY; and it has been going on for the better part of a week. This is completely unacceptable and should never have been let to happen in the first place.
#2. Focus MUCH more heavily on adding new content as a means to keep the players of Eve occupied and entertained rather than FORCING them to adapt to "balances" in current content. I.E. More new stuff, less F'ing with stats of existing equipment. Enough with the nerf and boost bats already. Whoever is in control of these bats sucks at using them. Period.
#2a. New ships hulls. We have been dealing with simple adaptations of the same basic hull types since 2003. We have even gone to a completely new graphics engine with NO TRULY NEW ship designs; everything that has come out is simply redecorated old hull designs. It's been five years. Time for some new ships. (I have PURPOSELY ignored the new Capital class hulls. I am talking about REAL ships, that the common man can afford to fly.)
#3. Get rid of DT already. It is the one area that Eve is WAAAAY behind the curve in modern MMOs. Any modern MMO that has come out in the last 2-3 years (from a major developer) has no (non-maintenance) DT. Sure, all of them are down for a few hours once a week or month; but not an hour or more every single day. DT REALLY needs to go away if Eve ever really wants to call itself a "major player" in the MMO world.
#4. Find a better way to stay in touch with the ENTIRE player base other than the forums. What way? Well, to be honest, I am not exactly sure. But, the current way gives way too much voice to a very small segment of the Eve community. Namely, the ones who have the time to read the forums more than the hourly DT each day. As such, the game devs are giving far too much attention to the people who's only true gift is that they can post the most in the forums, and have time to sort through the mountains of reading required to do so. Perhaps a forum where only the Devs post and the community cannot clutter it up with meaningless chatter? That way, the average reader could get to all of the information in a more quick and efficient manner rather than having to wade through mountains of ranting and opinions that don't matter. Much like this post you are reading now. Or, Perhaps MUCH more frequent Eve Newsletters, filled with meaningful info rather than advertisements. Other ideas on this point are welcomed.
#5. This one is last, but perhaps the most important: More star systems that are in secure space. Eve's player base is growing faster than anyone's dreams (in spite of all of its many faults.) Lawless space has grown with many new territories to accommodate all of these new pod pilots; and I applaud CCP's efforts to give the PvP players more room to breathe. But, what about the people who aren't into PvP or lawless space? They seem to have been completely forgotten and ignored (as usual.)
Anyway, you asked for ideas. There you have them. Ignore and or flame at your leisure.
