hey all! just an opinion and my thoughts so don't get all emotional over this!!
EVE in my opinion has had its day.. from what i can make out devs are just clutching at straws now to keep current players playing for as long as possible sure they want new players but they do very little to attract them, eve has a bad rep for being notoriously difficult to learn.. those of you that say it is'nt are simply not playing eve to its fullest! ive been playing since 2007 and you can take it from me when i say the games a very very harsh and steep learning curve which is why its so attractive..
back when i first started playing which is by no means at or near to the launch date but some 4 years later the game was just introducing mining barges to the frey and capital ships where not as common as they are now.. infact a capital ship was a mark of success for an alliance.. but today these great beasts of space have the same value to players as t2 frigates!! its a must have tool for any alliance and they are considered expendable at all costs in order to achieve progress.. which for me lies some of the problem.. capital ships have become to main stream its no longer a big thing not even titans are really a big thing these days and fairly common! so the introduction of the citidels means to me that ccp have simply given up and are in the please every one mind set!! rather than make eve functional enjoyable and populated once again!! i dont care what any one says.. the game is over 10 years old.. not many games live that long. those that do dont live much longer.. sure eve is a great game but its a great game populated by old school hard core pvp players. empire space is stagnant and getting a foot hold in null is based upon how well you know the alliances that can just wipe you from eve existance.. which is simply bad. no one earns anything anymore in this game.. they just buy plex sell for isk and buy the crap they want.. the death penalty has been negated by plex.. it was the very harsh death penalty that caused players and alliances to stop and think very hard before making an aggresive decision .. now there is no such thinking going on!!! people just have wars all the time. the politics has gone! the only politics that exist is when large coalitions start threatening smaller ones and then calling in their renter allies to blockade and support!! thats not politics.
i love sandboxes but this sandbox has made everything to readily available to every one. my enjoyment of eve was earning the things i wanted working my way out into null and then actually holding it! and defending it for our selves and our allies!! not bloody paying some one else to not attack you ?? i agree its a valid form of play but seriously.. are we all just lowering our selves to a lesser form of game play for instant gratification!! well the results are a dwindling population and a change in player mentality..
no one is interested in starting a corp from fresh and building it up because players as a majority now seak the best of eve as fast as possible and they can not have that by working with a new corp to grow and build and prooogress into an alliance and then push out to own their own space in null ! nope!! they just join a corp thats already in null because its fast and simple its why their are alliances with between 4000 and 7000 members !! its rediculous. out of those 4000 only about 300-400 of them will actually be interested in fighting fleet battles.. and working with the corp to improve the alliance the other 3600 will be doing what the hell they want to do with the option to join a fleet if they want to..
the game is just dead now.. their is no passion from the players no d reamers no thinkers.. just a bunch of dwindling pvpers that constantly moan about balance being the problem..
eve could turn the game around and make it great but it would mean upsetting the old school vets a little.. the devs nerfed moons because they generated too much isk!! so the players instead started to rent the systems out to other alliances and corps!!! surely thats an exploit of sorts.. fair enough its a viable business plan but its one the devs clearly didnt think about or they would have incorporated a special kind of renting mechanic into the guild contracts options.
but any way if the devs truely want eve to succeed they need to start spending money on television advertising.. they need to remove jump drives completely! get shot of plex completely and make players sub to play.. this will fund the game enough. and it will drive out the quick fix players!! yep those ones that want to use real life cash to get ahead in game.. it was a bad thing when it was incorporated now its just terrible.. plex at the start only used to be 200 million isk for 30 days!! now its over a billion... ?????? so a billion isk for every 15 dollars or 15 pounds you spend.. thats way way cheaper than the gold farmers in other games. i understand ccp do this so gold farmers can not.. but have you actually tried to make money in eve when you dont have any money to begin with!!! its a very long drawn out process
players are no longer starting off in empire and staying there learning the ins and outs mostly because new players are few and far between ... instead they buy cheap characters off the bazarre so they go straight out to null because thats where the fun is now.. well it is for now.
i log in now and nothing is apealing to me any more because i see the problems and know its futile trying to start fresh and the only real option is to jump on the band wagon and go join some old school players alliance.. |

You got 9 years of enjoyment from a single video game. That's a pretty good run by anyone's account. Bored? Move on to a new game. |

Ive been playing since 2008. i quit 4 times and im still playing. Sounds like you need a break. A break did me good. Lets me refocus what i want to do in eve. Also, each time i worry less about stats ,the metagame, politics, and playing to please others( read: " This CTA is important and you should call in sick to work!". Yeah right and you should pay my bills too but neither is going to happen)
Instead i find myself playing more casually. Doing what i want when i want. And i am finding a lot of alliances are becoming more lenient on play because their are just not enough hardcore diehards to go around. I play much less than i use to and PLEXes are literally the best thing CCP has ever added to this game. I use to spend 40 hours a week grinding rats so i could pvp for 4 hours, now i go to work for 4 hours and make enough to supply me with ships for 6 months. If you include those replaced by my alliance i got enough for 12 months.
The grinding made eve into a job. It was inefficient in my young days. 4-5 people ratting in a system would really cut into your income stream. Now i rat in system that can support 35-40 people ratting and it not really affect my income. Upgradable systems increased capacity of null, it also provides more faction and deadspace gear. So your welcome on those lower prices.
I like how people say the game is going downhill and how its out of date. EVE is actually a cutting edge game still today. Its been upgraded a lot, unlike that famous one WoW which looks like it got stuck in 2004.As for subs. When i started playing in 2008 you would get about 18-20k peak on TQ. I remember when we hit 25k peak people were talking about it in corp and alliance. We hit 32k peak now and people are like "game is dying". Nope not the game just more players.
Eve has steadily grown in subs since it started with a couple of bad xpacks in which it didnt fair to well. When i started i think it had around 100k subs. It has over 500k subs now. I wouldnt call that dying. Your natural response is going to be " yeah but those are all alts!" Nah while alts are more common now , its more common to have common players that play 10-20 hours a week than back when i started. When i started hardcore was the majority. If you didnt play at least 20-30 hours a week an alliance didnt want you. Now playing less than 20 hours a week is considered to be sane.
CCP has had some bad xpacks. Ones we told them we didnt like or didnt want. They became focused to much on trying to become a multi game company and left their bread and butter to get moldy. That cost them subs. I think they have learned their lesson, that eve comes first. Overall they have improved the game since i started. I like most of their changes, but not all. But you cant please all the people all of the time. The best you can hope for is some of the people most of the time.
I found taking breaks do help. Coming back after 6 months or year the game seems new again but you dont have to start from scratch. And you have to relearn the game and then its fun again. I found its fun longer if you dont turn it into a second job. So that is my goal. |

In summary:
Adamai wrote: Eve is dyning.
Things were different when I was a noob and I don't like this new fangled crap. There's so much money now, everyone can buy everything, and that's bad. Everyone wants to join an existing corp, instead of building a new one. Corps with several thousand members are just cra cra.
Also, Eve is dying. Renting systems was an exploit around the moon goo ISK nerf. [Ed Note - what? I don';t think you get the meaning of the word exploit.] If CCP wnats to save Eve, they need to completely rewrite the game into something that isn't Eve. Oh, and advertise on TV. Also, PLEX prices.
Nullsec > highsec
I'm bored
Eve is like an addiction; you can't quit it until it quits you.

Been playing since 2003. Sometimes i take a few months off, sometimes a few years.
NEVER made a 'T___T eve dying thread' EVER.
Shut up, move on and come back (or not), we don't really care tbh. This just makes you look like a tool and if/when you come back, even more so.
Is it really THAT hard to make a 'i have been playing for years, taking a break, cheers guys!' thread? So much whining those days...
Edit: Posting something like this right after a huge expansion finally redoing capital ships, introducing citadels, and all of that... just makes it even worst for OP... We get new content every few weeks, and every few months some relatively large new content. If you were really a 2007 pilot, you would remember how long it took to see updates (~6 months).
Been around since the beginning.

And...chess is how old? You "this is too old" people would be funny if I didn't get nauseous knowing you're out there. "I don't listen to old music." I guess Mozart is out. The tiny attention span people with no sense of proportion should own their disorder and refrain from using their symptoms as guides to measure our reality.
If EVE bores you. Do something else. Problem solved.
If we get chased by zombies, I'm tripping you.
