I seem to frequently get thrown by the distance of things by not being able to tell at a quick glance the distance unit I'm seeing in the overview. (doesn't help that I have a very high resolution screen)
I think it would help tremendously if in the overview different colors were used for the text km, m and AU. (Just the units not the actual number).

No, for reasons that the overview is already a riot of colors, designations are clear and sorting by distance is a thing.
Speaking as a person that gets surprise booshed away from targets while still being in target range, going from m to km in a blink i can read distances and don't need another colorblat messing up multiple overview tabs that denote friends, allies, neutrals and other status.
Reading the overview is not actually all that hard, even with the number of fields I personally keep open, which are quite a few.
To forestall the expected: this would not be useful to new players, they probably know how to read, and will be working off selected/targeted information until they understand, at which point they will also begin understand tabs and fields.

Surely it would be easier for you to get a lower resolution screen (which would probably help immeasurably with the readability aspect), rather than changing the entire game.

Why adapt to the game when we could have the game adapt to him?

My usual response as well but giving reasons helps forstall the inevitable
"Yawn" "Same old trolls" "Only ccp may judge me"
Which are generally used after the "think of the new players" kneejerk initial reply.
To add to my first reply, the tactical map will show you the relevant distance information in your immediate vicinity horizontally with vertical displacement.
Next idea expected, additional bracket color coding for relative velocity(red/blue doppler style) and comet trails denoting transverse (length in green).
Note that these ideas are bad and are suggested as a parody.

Thanks Troll Brigade. Pulled in almost all of the typical suspects on this one.
This suggestion wasn't for your eyes. I imagine you likely did (or would have) objected to changing the neo-com icons to monochrome and updating their appearance to make them easier to understand and locate at a glance. "Adapt to the game" you would have said.
We already know CCP doesn't take your opinions seriously.

Almost got a bingo there, you were missing was the "think of the newbies."
Someone really should make a "shiptoast bingo" card for F&I.
Oh, FoxFire. Why you may believe your last line, we who have been here a while, and reside in this thing called reality, know that if an idea generates overwhelmingly bad responses, it's not bloody likely to ever be implemented.

FoxFire Ayderan wrote:This suggestion wasn't for your eyes. WARNING IMPORTANT INFORMATION AHEAD
Please read this and commit it to memory, this is important stuff.
This is the Features and Ideas section of the forum not the pat FoxFire on the the back section. In the Features and Ideas section players post an idea or a proposal for a new feature in the game in hopes that CCP will read it and say oh that's nice let's add it to the game. And in return those of us that do not like the idea have a chance to state our case in hopes that we can prevent CCP from putting something terrible into the game.
I say NO to this idea as I have to several of your other "I want this" ideas in the past few weeks. My UI is already way to damned much like a flashing neon sign in a dark alley, all lit up with useless colors and flashing at me every time I move the pointer over something. See I was trained to actually read displays back in the day when you could have any color you wanted on your computer screen as long as it was green. See the photo in the upper right corner of this page. Monochrome Monitor. Yes, yes I know you will throw the adapt or get out thingy back in my face, and you see that is the basic difference between us I HAVE ADAPTED to what is even though I do not like it, while you come here and whine and cry to have CCP change the game to meet your desires. |

LMFAO.
Overwhelmingly bad responses from the same old cabal of constant nay-sayers who seem to live here on F&I? 90% of the things which CCP has put in over the years either having been ideas you dissaproved of, or would have been had they been suggested.
Okay. Whatever you say.... Lain.

Okay. Whatever you say.... Lain. Citation is required for your spurious claim that I've disagreed with 90% of everything CCP has put into the game in the last 13 years. Without it, you're just making yourself look like a reactionary idiot.

Another one for the bingo card, this, and most of your ideas with any of your bingo card responses belong in this:
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6194340#post6194340
Which would make the mods and yourself much happier so you could avoid the people/"bads" that poke holes in your genius, and they wouldn't have to check your posts for trolling which is common flag you wave, at least in replies.
As an added bit of time saving, a quick search come up with this, so the mods have already heard "your" idea but with better refinements.

I won't report for redundancy because I'm expecting more bingo card examples.

Yawn.
Oh wait, that's already on the Bingo Card. My bad.
You won't report for redundancy because this post doesn't qualify. a) The idea is different than the one proposed in that thread, since mine colors just the unit and is only 3 colors total. b) That thread is 4 years old. c) It's locked, so it can't even be chimed in on.
In any event, I think you guys really must like the OP suggestion. After all you keep bumping it. (Is that a Bingo space ? Anybody win? )

A) It is similar enough to qualify as redundant. Just because there's a slight variation doesn't make it a whole new idea. B&C) If you feel you have something of value to add to an old discussion, you can file a petition to have it unlocked. This has happened before, and there is an actual process to doing it.

Have you tried moving the distance column to be right next to the ship icon or name?
Cloaking is the closest thing to a "Pause Game" button one can get while in space.
