"There's a million posts on this already..." "If you don't like it, quit" "Quit whining you ******* carebear"
Ok, now that we've got the mindless putresence out of the way...
So, I've been reading a lot of posts, and watching a lot of corp chat. From what I've seen, people love slamming their ships into other people's ships. Why? Well, to keep them from warping of course.
Even though it is a completely valid tactic, I think it's pretty cheap because there is no collision damage system. A nanophoon slamming into a cap ship should result in capship damage and a seriously injured nanophoon.
This would lead to problems in some of the busier systems, but that can probably be solved by treating shields as bumpers. Up to a certain speed, there is no damage. After that cap is reached, damage starts to accrue normally.
So far, the only downside I see is that this would require additional server processing power. Am I totally off-base on this, or does the point have validity?

I'll give you a hint, it used to be in game in beta but it got removed and theres a reason why. But if you wanna solely do all the coding for it and deal with all the complaints im sure ccp will hire another mule

imagine the damage an undocking freighter could do to all those noob ships clustered around the entrance in a place like Jita.
I can just picture it, the freighter slowly emerges, knocking aside ibises as they pop one after the other.....so....beautiful....

Hence the whole "bumper" concept. Anything under a certain speed doesn't do any damage. Or maybe have ships move further out when they undock?
I dunno, but it just seems stupid that people can prevent others from warping off without a scram by slamming into them repeatedly and the only ways I can think of to get around that issue is to either kill the person charging you or web them.

Sweet, I'm gonna get me a nano ship and bump the hell out of haulers in Jita and not get concorded. Sure I'll have to repair the ship but think of the griefing I could do!
Lovely idea <3

Taking one of the new MC trailers as an example. Several capital ships undock simlutaniously, 5+ dreadnoughts bump each other in all directions. At near max speed after undock-bump, dreads destroy all frigs in station range. Every time they do this they damage each other.
You're flying an interceptor. You mwd towards a target to get within scrambler range... Lag, your client smooths out as your inty goes hurdling into whatever you're trying to scrambleat 7km/sec. Your dead.
Undock in jita. You align to warp. You are going fast enough so that you almost warp. Suddenly 50 privateer kestrels mwd in your face. Your dead.
Collisions can't reasonably be implemented in Eve, in offline, twitch based games like freespace it's dooable but the bump problem will have to be solved some other way.

If you're gonna answer with an answer like this, at least have the damn courtesy to quote the reason! Or was the second part of your severely disjointed reply the 'reason why'?

Also, if collisions caused damage, who would be responsible for the resulting aggro? Say one Ship is standing still, but another is moving, would the guy standing still be responsible for the collision? Could a freighter blockade a station for hours upon hours while Concord ganked everyone who undocked and hit it?
